It was the disconsolate dreaming
that kept me up at night,
nestling against the pericardium.

Those soft, gentle tendrils
mere wisps of a phantom
reaching through flesh
and grasping desperately
through the deepest states of repose.

You won’t ascertain
the profound effect that you have on me
taking my heart to places it’s never been
and never knew it would travel,
all from under a quiet sea of blankets,
wrapped in my mind’s photograph of you.

Closing my eyes,
I see your smile, backlit by
the beautiful glow in your eyes;
I can hear your voice
a low rumble like thunder
as a deluge of raindrops
caresses the windowsill.

It was the reverie,
which held my senses captive
well after midnight.

You won’t witness
as my body’s craving for you
overtakes any semblance
of complex thought.

My hands trailing slowly, patiently
over each sensitive plane of my body
gasping as I imagine your hands
pushing mine away, to claim my flesh
as though it always belonged to you.

It was that hunger,
which helplessly possessed me
in the twilight obscurity.

So many beautiful lines, but my favourite was... "wrapped in my mind's photograph of you..."
Aww thank you for taking the time out to read it and comment as well; might not be a big deal to some, but means a lot to me.
This is lovely. Really well done x
Thank you very much...I'm glad that you liked it. :)
This poem is so ghostly in the most beautiful way, like coming out of a dream and remembering bits and pieces, but feeling consumed by the emotion and need it invoked more than by the dream's memory. And that second stanza is perfection, my dear friend :)
Ahhh my most wonderful friend, I'd like to say that my poems enjoy your comments, but I do as well. I always enjoy hearing what you enjoyed the most, and your perception of what you read...almost more fun than actually writing the poem itself. "Perfection" from you is high praise, to be sure. Your reviews never fail to make me smile. :)
Another lovely poem - I think its length is perfect - and I love the raindrops caressing the windowsill! <3
Thank you so very much for taking the time out to first, read and also review! I appreciate your input more than you know. :) Thank you for the kind words...they mean a lot to me. <3
