For the first time in a long time
She dreads the walk up to her room
Usually, he is there to reassure her
And hold her tight.
But not tonight
He made his choice
To toss her aside
And crush her Christmas wish.
She looks around the room
Remembering better times
When they loved and cherished each other
From dusk until dawn and back again
She pulls on his shirt
then climbs into bed
and cuddles what was his pillow
which both linger with his scent
She reaches out softly
To gently caress his face
Before she remembers
And her tears finally break free.
Her loving heart and soul
Which she willingly gave to him
Now lays broken and battered on the floor
And she is once again, alone…
