Beneath the surface
You just may see
The heart and soul
That reveals the real me
To the question in passing
I hear “How are you?”
“I am well” I respond
For the truth may not do
Infrequently shown
what my heart hides so well
In the depths of my soul
There is much more to tell
And to whom do I pour
These ramblings to
To whom do I show
This real person to
From nightmares recurring
haunting me day and night
To dreams unrealized
In the early morning light
Those willing to hear
Are but a few
Yet they recognize and say
“Yeah, I see it too.”
To most the facade
Is all that they see
But few take the time
To know the real me.
They are the ones
I am willing to tell
And they are the ones
Who love me as well
You just may see
The heart and soul
That reveals the real me
To the question in passing
I hear “How are you?”
“I am well” I respond
For the truth may not do
Infrequently shown
what my heart hides so well
In the depths of my soul
There is much more to tell
And to whom do I pour
These ramblings to
To whom do I show
This real person to
