Just once I wish,
That the past could be forgotten,
That what went before would not affect what is to come.
Just once I wish,
That the day we met could be forgotten,
That your face, body, vibrant self would no longer haunt my thoughts and dreams.
Just once I wish,
That you had said “No” that afternoon,
That the torrid touching of body on body, mouth on mouth never became a part of my life.
Just once I wish,
That we had never met again,
That the lust that burned hot between us had not survived that fiery first time.
Just once I wish,
From the bottom of my beating heart,
That we were strangers once again,
Passing quietly on a sunlit afternoon,
With no thought of meeting in a darkened room,
Undressing,
And reliving that afternoon once again.
But as I join you on the bed once more,
I know that all I can do,
Is wish.
