We have hours before stars darken and the sun breathes

fire across the vast above and when I look at the sky's canvas

each night and I wonder how those luminous bodies burn 

with such intensity and look so still until remembering

There's an animal in both of us, 

ancient feral forms seeking each other out in this unlit 

space by the scent and heat emanating from our pores, 

a hunger beyond the primal pheromones our presence initiated.

The clothes separating us are stripped away with blinding

speed as if our hands were made to exactly know how to pull 

each zipper, undo every button and tie, 

peel off all leather and lace

As if we're made to close every space between our entire

being with unrelenting momentum until our inevitable 

collision calls forth the animal in us.

We have hours before stars darken and can breathe fire

into one another when you blossom as I glide along and into you, 

and when I lick and caress the delicate canvas of your skin

I wonder how our feverish bodies can burn with such

intensity and not explode into utter oblivion until

being inside you makes me remember

The animal in both of us are cunning creatures that

can be a predator or prey when it suits us, 

when it entices one to seek out the other

in this unlit space until nothing separates 

our stripped forms from knowing every pore, 

from our blood calling to each other in voices beyond primal need

And we have hours to relish each flavor and contour

before stars darken and the fires you breathe into me 

ignite like millions of sparks edging where you blossom

and the momentum grows until I combust inside you 

to soothe and quiet the animal in us.
