Author's Notes

"This poem is my take on the long-form haiku version called renku, which strings multiple haiku together to make a longer poem. My interpretation of this also includes haiku tanka, a longer version of haiku which uses 5-7-5-7-7 syllables. I have taken this one step further by using tanka as an overall structure. I used traditional haiku for the 5s and tanka for the 7s. The overall structure follows this pattern: 5-7-5 / 5-7-5-7-7 / 5-7-5 / 5-7-5-7-7 / 5-7-5-7-7"
