Hello everyone,
I have been enjoying this great site for a couple of months now. Yes, I joined in December, but really didn't get into logging in regularly until January, I'm Cary, 68. I do enjoy writing and have published a few stories (and one poem) here, and plan to write and publish more as time goes by. I have to say I will not be nearly as prolific as some of you! There are some really excellent writers here.
I haven't spent much time in the chat rooms yet, but I have voted and commented on a number of stories and have made a few friends along the way. If you get a chance, head over to my profile and say hello! If you've read any of my stuff, feel free to comment and/or send me an email or PM with suggestions or criticisms. I'm always looking for ways to improve.

Oh, HELL NO!! No possible way I would ever do that. I was just curious because I've never been able to understand why some guys are naive enough (or maybe hard up enough) to think it is actually effective. I don't consider either approach "better" or "worse". It depends on the complexity of the plot or whatever you are trying to convey in your story. If there is a logical breaking point in a long story, then perhaps breaking it up into parts would be easier for the reader, as not everybody wants to invest the time to read a long story in one sitting. In that regard, the reader can more easily stop at a logical spot and resume reading later. However, if you have to put in some sort of artificial breaking point that interrupts the story's flow, I would favor one longer story.
My stories thus far have all been under 3,000 words, but that is not to say they'll all be that way.

I hope you will take the time to read my entry, "Tale of a Longshoreman". It was just posted today and doesn't have many votes as yet, so I hope you will vote and comment. This is a fictional story that may be a bit different. As the title indicates, it's about a mid-fifties longshoreman living around the port of San Francisco who meets a lady in her forties, purely by chance, and then intervenes when she finds herself in trouble.
