You deserve it for spending 4 dollars on that.

Host turned out to be only $3, and it was pretty good. Only an hour long, but it was really inventive. Kind of a Blair Witch-y esthetic. I'm a sucker for low-budget indie horror.
Once I was totally broke and hungry as fuck and I stole a box of crackers and a brick of cream cheese. It tasted SO good. I went back a couple weeks later to pay the guy back. He was a real dick about it.

I also stole Diary of the Plague Years, by Daniel Defoe, from the Mpls. Public Library. A ridiculously beautiful book, with woodcut illustrations. It has a treasured space on my bookshelf even now. Maybe I'll pay them back one day.

the blonde girl fucks the demon and dies mid-orgasm which sends him back to Demon-land.

If that really turns out to be the ending I am gonna be pounding on your door at 4 a.m. with a taser and a bong, demanding justice.
We saw Let Them All Talk last night on Netflix. Underwhelming. LJ liked it better than I did.

We are watching Host tonight. Low budget horror movie about a bunch of people on a Zoom call who accidently summon a demon. On Prime, for $4. Supposed to be really good.

Anyone spoils the ending I will hunt them down and exact my revenge. I'm looking at you, Taser Girl.

I can't make up my mind what i want to drink when we go out so he has to get me 3 or more drinks

That genuinely sounds kinda aggravating.

I HATE learning the ending of a movie, or even an important plot point. We'll watch a trailer for a movie on Netflix or something, and the second I decide I want to watch the movie I have to go LALALALA really loud until we turn the triler off, so I won't learn any more.

At least I don't do this in movie theaters.

Have been waffling about Queen's Gambit. I've seen enough chess movies. Not sure I want another one, and not one with that 'girls can't jump' theme. But your judgment on things of this nature is pretty good. I may consider your suggestion. I think you were the one who told me about Justified. Not sure.

It's not really a chess movie. Some critic on Slate said it looks like it will be an orphanage story, then a drug abuse story, then a feminist story, but never goes down those roads. It's a SUPER-HERO story. She's the super-hero! She's also quite hot.

Anyway, that was one of the things I loved about it: the story is kinda unclassifiable. It is what it is. But the show works really well, and leaves you feeling good. A fully satisfying story, beginning to end.

I thought YOU told ME about Justified.

Drinks're on me! I'll have a Fresca.

Nothing says wake the fuck up like cute Japanese girls dressed like sexy maids shredding.

Hey, they're pretty good! All I know about this genre is Baby Metal, who are fun. I like how it's weird mix of metal and prog. And those suddenly melodic sections are cool.

Hope everyone is depressurizing from the holidays nicely. This is my favorite part of the season, with all the hoopla over, just hanging out and playing with Christmas junk, waiting for the new year to start.

Another chill day. Write and read and eat. My youngest has a cold, which apparently means susceptible to Covid, so I am banned from MY OWN HOUSE until future notice. Luckily I get to stay here with LJ!

A huge force in bluegrass died this weekend: Tony Rice. Saw him play several times at Rockygrass and Telluride. So, if I may intrude on Carl's musical choices, let me play this for you. Rest peacefully, Tony.

The 2019 Godzilla movie is pretty good too. Eleven from Stranger Things is in it, so is Vera Farmiga as her mom. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, like you and Verbs, but I love watching the monsters. Skull Island or whatever it was called was good, but there was something I can't recall I didn't like about it. However, 2014's Godzilla is great because of those fucking MUTO (massive unidentified terrestrial organisms) bat-like things but even more so, I love that Godzilla is pissed off. If you look at his brow, it is always furrowed, like a grumpy old man. I suppose he always looks like that, but he seems especially pissed off at the MUTO's. He fucking hates those bastard black monster birds. It's like they woke him from his afternoon nap.

It IS a good movie, though I'm easy when it comes to liking Kaiju flicks. Seen it twice already. Still haven't seen Skull Island, though I think it was on HBO awhile.

HUGS.

Happy boxing day everyone. Hope everyone had an excellent Christmas holiday. Ours was relatively low key but fun. I made some astonishingly good enchiladas, and we also had tacos and tostadas and tamales and green chili. Today we plan to be seriously lazy.

LJ just called out form the kitchen to wish everyone a happy holiday. You heard her! Go be happy.

Where was I? Oh, we binged the rest of The Queen's Gambit last night. What a great series. Might be my fave TV of the year, though I don't remember what else was on this year.

Sorry you have a sore ass, Weird But Strangely Hot Bunny Girl (WBSHBG). Thanks for an entire year of set-ups, Curvely and Tonya and Kat. Thanks for the tunes and the donuts and the JAMESON'S all year, Carl. Thanks for the honesty and insight into Janeliness and the self-shipping thing, Xan. And for the insight into witchy ways and epoc Viking poetry, Skald. And the taser-bearing lovliness of sprite. And the bizarre cartoonful, dada-ish world view of Ping/PNG/.png. And for the well wishes and good cheer, James and Carlton and all the Scotts and all the Annies and even the occasional LYFBUZ. And Larry! And Gill! And Bill! And Sara! And Suzie! And whoever else I missed! Merry Christmas to all of you.

Breakfast awaits. Coffee would be wonderful.
Christmas is probably the day of the year I am least likely to have sex. Wake up too early, all bloated after a big dinner, exhausted by 6 p.m.

Christmas Eve is another matter entirely smile
Merry Christmas Eve morn, my fellow barflies. Extremely chill morning. Started the beginnings of chicken/green chili enchiladas, which I have some game at. The centerpiece of Christmas dinner. There is some talk of a Die Hard marathon today, which I am fully supportive of. My only obligations today are the aforementioned enchies, reading The Night Before Christmas later tonight, and filling up stockings just before bed (there's a dabauched pun in there somewhere, but it's too early to dig for it).

To all my friends here at Lush, and Rumps specifically: it took great courage to live and thrive through this last crazy year. Relax into the holidays, be easy on yourself, and celebrate the holidays in a way that brings you joy and bliss.

Peace, friends!

Hi, I am just wanting some feedback. I was a good English student, but had no real teaching in writing stories. I would like to improve my writing. I changed to 1st person writing some time ago and found it easier to express feelings and such. Readers seem to relate more to my stories through this change. However, it is more difficult to write "beautifully," because character voices aren't usually thinking/speaking so eloquently. Using a narrator, it is easier to write the poetic phrasings, eloquent/clever descriptions, metaphors, etc. Make sense? So which POV is better? Which is more publishable?

Then there's tense. I typically write in present, but notice more authors write in past tense. Is one more preferred by published writers? Those who were taught to write ... what were you taught?

Thank you for your response.

It's cool that you are experimenting. I'm a little scared of present tense!

POV is always a trade-off. First person gets you immediacy and puts you right inside the character's head for a front row seat. It's a cool effect, but as you point out, you can only get as poetic as the person whose head you are in. It also really limits what you can show the audience, since it has to be experienced by the POV character. I don't use first person much, but if there's a genre perfect for it, it's erotica!

Present tense is REALLY hard for me to pull off, so I avoid it. Seems like it might get kinda repetitious too. But again, it might be a good choice for erotica, because it puts you right in the moment.

Good luck!

Best thing ever to come out of Burlington, Ontario and I say that as someone who lived near there (Hamilton) for a decade. Their cover of ACDC's Thunderstruck is epic, too. Never knew Sarah could sing like that or that you could do that opening riff on a uke. Recorded it at the Sydney Opera House while in Oz for their last in-person overseas gig before lockdown.

Now they need to cracking on some new original music. They've released a couple over 2020 but I think they may have been off the last album.

Good day, all. Sorry I'm scarce. Got other projects on the go and being home all the time makes discretion difficult but there's a couple b-days I wanted to acknowledge (Hi, PNGd) and just make my presence know.

Too early for booze. Put the kettle on and pour me a tea. Earl Grey. Hot. /Picard

Hey! They're good! Thanks for the morning wake-up!

HUGS, ladies and germs.

Star Bellied Boy, we've not met, hi, and yes, I have a question. Your name reminds me of the Sneeches from the Dr. Suess book. I'm guessing we both drink from very different cultural wells. So, is your name a Dr. Suess reference?

Hope everyone else is well. Things are DEEPLY chill here, with all Christmas shopping and decoration done. Both kids are here. I expect MarioKart will be played. Tomorrow will be cooking Mexican food for Christmas Day. Today is the calm before the storm. Though, with Covid, the storm is more of a brisk breeze.

Saw my therapist yesterday, and discussed the banes and benefits of retirement. It's weird that I prefer tele-therapy to being there face-to-face. Nearly entirely because it means I don't have to drive a half hour in each direction.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, yadayadayada. Be safe, be kind, be well.

I'd love a köffee.
He's funny and talented and cool. I also try to come up with a new acronym every time I see his name. Currently: Lesbian Yaks Flee Bigoted Unfriendly Zebra.
Happy birthday, you magnificent bastard. Now aren't you glad your friends drag you back, kicking and screaming, every time you try to leave?

I hope you have an excellent day. You deserve it!

Now, take Rudolf's advice:

Thanks y’all for the lovely wishes.

Cake anyone?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!

And happy solstice to the rest of you. Feels a little like we're all limping across the finish line, getting to 2021.

Kay, cool pic of the Christmas Conjunction! We went all out - took out the scope, looked at Saturn and Jupiter, then turned it around and looked at the moon (LJ gasped - my scope has really good optics) and then the Pleiades. Then I accidentally knocked off the finderscope and we had to go inside. sad

Several neighbors stopped by and I showed them whatever we happened to be pointed at. It was fun.

There's a meteor shower peaking tonight. We'll probably go out for that too.

Otherwise, it's my retirement schedule: write, exercise, edit, a few remaining Christmas chores, and then read.

Fuzz, are the Rogues an iteration of the Pogues, without Shane McGowan? I think they are. BTW, one of the best concerts I've ever seen was The Pogues. Shane McGowan is a drunken genius.

HUGS to all here.

Random fact. There's places you can go and they give you breakables to throw at a wall
We should all go rage at one.

Once, when my sister was going through a difficult time, she was in a bar she used to frequent and they gave her a FULL pitcher of beer to throw at the wall as hard as she could.

She said it made her feel better. smile

No rage of my own in this post. Sorry. I could fake it, but I'm feeling pretty chill today.

Thank you Pixie, but no apology is necessary.

About what I originally said: I've known a mutual friend of ours for quite some time now, and have spent hundreds of hours chatting with her. She has always spoken very highly of you in any of these forums. Even if I had never seen anything you've said, her thoughts about you would be enough.

I always try to be around pleasant people, so that means I have no reason not to be pleasant also. You get what you give. If they are not nice, then I want nothing to do with them and will try to avoid them like I do Covid-19.

To Verbal: I've never had any direct contact with him, but anytime he's given advice to anyone, its always been sound, common sense advice. He seems like a nice guy, and is well respected by other members here. Verbal, I love your new avatar about the dancing couple. Is that a picture of you demonstrating your great moves?

My dance style is kinda similar to that weird dancing kid, and LJ's dancing is not dissimilar to the girl dancer. smile

Liketowrite seems like a kind, chill, gentle soul. He certainly is nice to others here, which goes far in my book.

I was BORN on the naughty list, Mr. Acronym. And I'm getting a StarSense autoaligner for my telescope from Santa!

Woke up at 10 a.m. this morning UNEMPLOYED! Got a story to edit before publication, a new one being born, and two stories I finished this month. So, ending the year with a bang, writing-wise.

Emma, that super-Covid sounds like the beginning of a sci-fi novel. Please stay safe. And to you and Kat: no more talk of this "no coffee" scenario. That strikes fear deep in my bones. A life without coffee is not worth living.

Digging the Supertramp, Carl. I'll be around for so Jamesons soon. Finished off the last of the Elijah Craig this weekend.

Hey, everyone else. Bill. James. Xan. Alt Scott. Weird Cute Bunny Girl. The Unquenchable Curvy.

Köffee would be a balm.
One of my dearest friends here. Sexy and sweet and smart. Fond of exclamation points!

Jizzed twice during Mandalorian 2 season finale.

Nailed the landing. It took a really sure touch to pull off The Mandalorian as well as they did. I love the way they reenergized the canon. I actually am not a big fan of the original movies, I like the J J Abrams movies and Rogue One and now The Mandalorian much better.

I also finished The Flight Attendant this weekend. Ended strong, though the obligatory lead-in to the next season was kind of annoying. Both Kaley Cuoco and Shosh from Girls have impeccable comic timing, which kept it lively. And I'm a sucker for split screen. Good show.
Independence Day is great fun. New Year's is over-rated.

Turkey/ham for Christmas dinner, or something else (we do Mexican)?
She is unapologetically, unrepentantly herself.

Here's a little info on it.

That'll be worth a look. I'm rewatching the whole thing with my newly adult daughter (we stare uncomfortably at the walls during nude scenes). It really is a good show. I've caught a lot of stuff I didn't catch the first time. We are entering season 7, and I am already seeing how everything starts to get overly rushed at the end. I didn't think they booted the ending horribly, as some do, but they needed to take a little more time to nail the ending than they did.

Still. Great show. Look forward to the prequel.

LAST. DAY. TODAY. Then off to LJs. Bourbon will be quaffed. Bowls will be smoked. Love will be shared. Merriment will be had.

Köffee would be the perfect complement to my day.
