What is the sexiest language or accent in the whole wide world?

Everyone knows that - Brooklynese.

God, *why* are you such a lovable smartass!

Don't you mean luvable?

Or, if you know Latin, it's a preposition.

Ohhhh.... so THAT's what cum laude means! I thought people were being awarded honors for their deafening orgasms.

... da fuq, mang?

I think you just want me to get riled up. You know what happens when I get prickly.

Why don't you come over here and say that, tough stuff? Afraid I'll end up on top? ;-)

Counting on it.
Congratulations Sitting, RejectReality and Clum! Well done. And kudos to the rest of the top ten as well.

Can we get a logout link somewhere other than the cog pull down menu and the forum? Maybe somewhere a bit more conspicuous and universally usable? As a thread in the help desk points out, the cog pull down menu doesn't work terribly well with Android tablets, and for some of us, logging out is a Big Deal.

Thanks!

Bitch, bitch, bitch...

I don't want to derail the topic, so please feel free to let me know if I should start a new thread. Aside from understanding what Amazon does and does not accept, which is very interesting, I would also like to know how to obtain cover art that isn't either copyrighted or that I would have to make myself? Maybe you buy it somewhere?

Smashwords makes a list of cover designers available. The prices vary significantly, depending on what you want, but I think you can get a basic cover for about $35-$50 US. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the link here, but PM me and I'll get it to you.

Here's a better idea. There is a very user-friendly tutorial called How to Make Your Own FREE Book Cover in MS Word. I have no talent at all and was able to to create a cover I'm happy with. Once you have it in Word, it's a simple matter to convert it to a JPG in the Microsoft Paint program. Again, ping me and I'll get you the link.

Whichever way you decide to go, you should purchase a license to use the images. As Nicola said, Shutterstock is reasonable. I have also used iPhoto.com, but they are pricier.

This has been added.

Love the new queue. Kudos to Gav and the rest of the team.
Quote by Mazza
I'd really like it if stories in the reading queue had to be manually removed. Often I'll take a look to see what I have to read and maybe click on one and then it disappears from my queue, whether I've read it or not...

Or...

Maybe there could be more info about the story itself - all you get right now is the title, not the author, categories etc - maybe if there was more info, like there is on the front page, it would be easier to manage?

(I know, I'm a dumbass, but it would make my Lushlife that little bit easier)

{}{}{}

I like these suggestions. Just getting the author's name would be huge. I do the same thing; take a peek, and - Presto! - it disappears from my queue. I guess I'm a dumbass, too. Of course, if I just read Mazza's stories immediately like everyone else does, I wouldn't have these problems.
Well done, Nicola! There's nowhere quite like this place. Thank you for making your vision a reality!

I feel so cheap! (we have business partners to keep happy!)

Carmen's kit is in the post. Enjoy!

YAY!!! Uh... I mean... my friend will be so pleased.
Nicola! I’m shocked, shocked at the shameless commercialization at work here. How bourgeois. Don’t you know we’re ARTISTS, for God’s sake? Well, I’m not, obviously, but these other people are. Outrageous.

Um... by the way, can you let me know when Carmen’s Big Booty Stroker Kit hits the clearance rack? It’s not for me; it’s for a friend. Honestly.

I've just noticed it as well and really like the idea. It's a great way to be able to say thank you for commenting.

I have to respectfully disagree. I think it's a lazy way to say thank you for a comment. If someone takes the time to not only read a story but also leave a thoughtful comment, I think a little more effort than a mouse click is in order - a brief message, a profile page post, even a black box. I suppose we all have our own ideas about what constitutes good manners, and I realize that I'm probably in the minority on this one, but when I receive my own words back by way of thanks I can't help wondering why the sender even bothered. I don't always get around to it as quickly as I should, and I'm sure I've dropped the ball a few times, but I do feel it's important to let my readers know I appreciate them. I've met some interesting people in the process. By the way, the Timeline makes it really easy to keep track of those kinds of things when I do fall behind. Anyway, just my two cents.

*Sighs and swoons, melting into a Poppy puddle* Mmm talk nerdy to me more Gav.

Not to mention I bet he has a fantastic accent, given where he is from. RAWR! *Moans*

Saga, RavenStar, AND Poppet? Jesus, Gav, kick sand in my face why dontcha? That ain't right, man. Put that UTF-8 back in your pants before it goes off.
Congratulations to Liz, BillyBroadband, Lupus, the the rest of the top ten. Well done.

Oh, and Liz? Stop, okay? Just stop.

Am I the only one who can read Base64 encoded strings? All right you, I'll convert back UTF-8.

I bet the girls just melt when you talk like that. God, you tech jockeys are studs. Anyway, thank you Gav!

Okay, I went to go leave my first comment on a story since the changes and this is what came up, once I hit enter.

Um, help please?

Ditto.

I have no hesitation: Lisa. I say that with serious respect for many other authors too.

What he said.

There are several writers here I love reading and I’d have a hard time picking a top five. But one? It's Lisa.
Congratulatiions to Liz, Sprite, and Alexandra. Each of you showed what it means to practice the craft of writing. Richly deserved - all of you.
A big congratulations Ashleigh, Liz, and Jaymal for taking top honors. Well done. Do you all hang out in the same bar by any chance? Jesus, I need to find that place.

Kudos to the rest of the field as well in this difficult competition. I thought there was some outstanding work on display.
Thank you to the judges for the second place recognition. Please know that it means a lot to me and I'm grateful, even humbled. I know these decisions must be very difficult to make. I also want to take this opportunity thank you and the many people who volunteer hours and hours to make this an extraordinary place. I don’t do that anywhere near enough. I feel privileged to be able to come here, show my work, and exchange ideas with talented writers.

Congratulations to Noreasonneeded and Annie for your fine stories. Sincerely - well done.

Finally, congratulations to all of the entrants. I read some inspired entries. It’s the spirit of competition that drives some of us to do our best work. It’s also the thing that drives some of us, mainly me, to places we’d rather not go. Please accept this expression of admiration for your talent, enthusiasm, and imagination.

Great summary and nicely done. Too bad Dylan didn't have something like this when he wrote Lay Lady Lay. On second thought, maybe it's best that he didn't... Lie Lady Lie?

Since "lay" requires a direct object, you can remember the present tense distinction with the phrase, "Lay it on me" - "it" being the object. "Lie" cannot have a direct object. That's the real distinction - transitive (lay) vs. intransitive (lie) verbs.

The past tense and the participles are where things get really hairy. When my head starts to hurt I start thinking that maybe I actually TOSSED that friggin' dildo on the bed.
al·right
[awl-rahyt] Show IPA

all right.

Can be confused: all right, alright (see usage note at the current entry).

Usage note
The form alright as a one-word spelling of the phrase all right in all of its senses probably arose by analogy with such words as already and altogether. Although alright is a common spelling in written dialogue and in other types of informal writing, all right is used in more formal, edited writing.

To the judges, thank you so very much. I'm truly humbled. And, okay, I'll admit that it feels great. Wow. I'm floored.

Congratulations to Kim and Annie for their excellent entries and to all the other top ten finishers! I agree that there was some really fine work on display. Everybody really seemed to go after it. There were a couple of stories I loved that weren't recognized which I suppose just goes to show how strong the field was.

I have to say the theme had me scratching my head. Check that. Banging my head... against the table. (Who the fuck was responsible for that?!) Thank God I had the good sense not to go with a ritual sex story because Annie and Kim had that flat out nailed. Holy crap, they were good.

I'm very much looking forward to being driven out of my mind by the next competition theme. Thank you again!
