usually it helps if you put a little information in the box provided, rather than just a thread title, so people have a better understanding of what it is, exactly, that you need.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I'd be happy to proofread. I make my living as an editor.

Well, to start, I can already see you've missed out the word "please" there.
Warning: The opinions above are those of an anonymous individual on the internet. They are opinions, unless they're facts. They may be ill-informed, out of touch with reality or just plain stupid. They may contain traces of irony. If reading these opinions causes you to be become outraged or you start displaying the symptoms of outrage, stop reading them immediately. If symptoms persist, consult a psychiatrist.

Why not read some stories instead

A good start would be a post describing your story and what help you need.

I do have some suggestions for you before you hand your story off to someone else. First, read all of the material on grammar, formatting, etc. in the Writer's Resources. Do not rely on spell check alone as you proof your story as it does not catch mistakes that are words producing unfortunate errors like, "he put his hands on my waste". Put in some of your own time and, even if someone proofs it for you, make an effort to learn from your mistakes and the corrections that are made. That is the way to become a better writer.

And the previous post was correct. Please is good manners.
