Love is wanting the very best for the other person and putting their health and wellbeing before ourselves. It is many things and there are many forms of love. Yes there is physical love but there is also pure love-Wanting the very best for someone. Love is gentle and love is kind. Love is learning not always expecting to get our own way. Love is learning to be unselfish - Love is learning to give without always expecting something in return.

Who said that love was fire?
I know that love is ash.
It is the thing which remains
When the fire is spent,
The holy essence of experience.

Love to me is knowing that no matter what you’ll survive every storm, not having to fill every moment talking just to feel secure, being free to be yourself, putting someone before yourself and knowing they’re doing it as well... knowing you can completely lose your shit and they still stay and say “it’s ok I love you”
Being together for years and still getting butterflies whenever he kisses me
To me this is love
To love them, to look after them, love is not selfish. All you want is the best for them and you'll go out of your way to make sure there okay. Two people growing together and learning about one another. You feel happy simply just thinking of them and you trust them. Love is a deep feeling and it's rare. When you fall in love, it's a beautiful thing. I'm a romantic by nature, so I believe in love.
In India, love means never having to wear your sari…

Sari about that, folks. It just slipped off…

On a more serious note:

“Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.”

This. ❤

I could have spent ages answering yet you boiled it down beautifully x

I'd like to add if I may- in my opinion, demonstrating real love is easier if you have self worth and respect. Giving unconditionally is commendable, yet soul destroying at times. You cannot give it if you don't believe in yourself or the powers love holds. X

Exactly. You can't give what you don't have.

This was so beautifully said, Amelia.
Well after 20 successful years of being married to the same woman allow me to add MOHO to this eternal question...

To me love is best described as two cups - you, and your significant other. You pour everything you have, every drop that's in your cup into your partner. Don't hold anything back for yourself... give it all to them. They, in turn, give you everything they have, holding nothing back, to you. If that is done and both of you honestly give all you have to the other, then both of you will empty yourself to them and be refilled by them. Neither will go thirsty because they have all they need in each other.

Love is a giving thing. You hope to be refilled but you should never ask for it or demand it. It should be freely given - that way it means the most.
Love is ...a trap!!! ? JK

Actually......( although I don't think I can describe it better than MJ )

Love is being each others light on their darkest nights
Comforting and caring for each other and making each other feel safe
Love is learning to love the broken pieces each tiny fragment and becoming their glue
Love is never making someone doubt their self worth or feel unwanted
Love is lifting them up instead of bringing them down.
Love is never playing mind games or putting them into situations to see if they'll sink or swim
Love should never make you want to never love again
Love is never trying to change someone
Love is sacrifice and devotion
Love is give as much as you take
Love should make you feel good not bad.
Love is being able to have difficult conversations and not have them used like a weapon later.

I could probably go on longer but I'll finish with

There are all kinds of love but never the same one twice ( i can't remember where I read that)

Here's a passage from my latest story, And They Felt No Shame (Recommended Read!)- which addresses this question.

Sister Rina gasped in shock, turning away as she clasped her hand over her mouth. Father Ambrose watched for just a few seconds, then turned and shut the chapel door quietly. “You see, Sister – the Enlightenment tore Eva away from her loving parents, taught her to abandon commitment and self-sacrifice at the altar of Pleasure. Young people have grown used to seeing each other’s bodies merely as a means to staunch the pain of their loveless existence. Yet now – look at them – they are discovering for the first time the joy of self-giving. They are realising that all that ‘fucking’ they’ve been doing all their lives is just the shadow, pointing to the true Love who beckons from Beyond. And if that realisation strikes them on the altar of the One who gives all and who loves all – well then, perhaps, He is smiling this evening…”
Father Ambrose paused. “Come, Sister, we will be late for vespers…”
And on the altar, under the flickering red light of the Blessed Sacrament, a new mysterion was being consecrated. For, as Chad released his seed deep into Eva, they both recognised something they had never recognised before – something utterly new, but old as Creation itself:
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh.”
And they felt no shame.

Sex IN tacos! ?

Love is a safe space that allows both of you to present your truest selves to each other.
To know and recognise all the different facets of your personality and your nature.
That they don't have to like all of them, or want to be around some of them but acknowledging that to remove even a single facet would utterly change the person they love and perhaps remove the very quality they fell in love with you for.

i know it well enough to have stopped trying to put it in words.
To give another person every part of yourself and accept that they will give you the same.
Commitment and dedication to the other person's happiness and contentment. Love means surrendering yourself for the other person(s) in the relationship, not because you have to but because you want to.

Damn, girl, that's some wicked pussy weed!

Love is intelligently planning your future - together. Being able to trust each other completely. A knowing glance and smile as you work together to prepare a meal. Making love at every sunrise and again at every sunset and awakening in each others arms every morning. Looking at each other and feeling an irresistible urge to kiss - an urge neither of you ever wants to resist anyway. It is calling each other at work just to hear your partner's voice because you miss them. It is hearing a song or seeing an item of clothing and knowing whether your partner would enjoy it. It is deriving pleasure, in pleasuring your partner, and knowing that your partner feels the same way toward you.
It doesn't mean Jack shit to me except when it comes to my cat or other animals. Humans aren't capable of love anymore.

Unless we are talking about food, alcohol or something along those lines.
