The true Homerun King, Hank Aaron, passed away in his sleep today. Mr. Aaron, who still holds baseball's runs batted in record, and as everyone knows, hit his 755 homeruns without performance enhancing drugs. Mr. Aaron is one of baseball's most iconic players. He was 86 years old.

After retirement, he stayed with the Atlanta Braves as Vice President of player development for decades, and also owned several Atlanta businesses, and even more importantly worked hard for enhancing civil rights. Aaron will always be a national and Atlanta icon. He'll be greatly missed.

Great ball player and great man. Not only was he one of the greatest of all time he did it in a time when a black athlete's success was vilified many ballparks, he was regularly subjected to death threats. A life well lived. RIP.

I'm a lifelong dodger fan. I was glued to the TV watching to see Aaron hit #715 against my team. As soon as Downing threw the pitch and you saw Aaron swing you knew it was the record. He was a great ballplayer and a classy man. Wish more of today's ball players were like him.

While his baseball exploits are legendary, I would argue his off-field accomplishments are at least as valuable if not more so in showing to move forward in peace. He was able to endear himself to everyone without boisterous rhetoric or a hint of violence. Anyone who can do that is a true hero in my book.
