Given that the written word is all we have to thrill and excite one another here, it's hardly surprising that descriptions of our various body parts may become rather ambitious, and sometimes as a woman, I am alarmed at what our bodies are apparently capable of...
1) Squirting. Never seen it, done it... ever. Neither have any of my friends. Accidental or intentional peeing certainly but some hidden gland that gushes fluid? No.
2) Breasts. Swelling. Nah. (Or maybe I haven't been paying attention.)
3) Nipples. Yes, they get erect of course, but it's in the same way that goosebumps appear. Are they an indicator of sexual arousal? Not necessarily, you could be merely sitting in a draft.
4) The clitoris. My God, now the author goes crazy. Apparently this hidden part of our bods swells, stiffens, glows, lengthens, the glans swells and protrudes. Tongues can even be wrapped around the 'engorged' clit. I reality, of course, with increased blood supply it DOES become engorged but it's ain't a hard-on. When we get close our arousal causes our little friend to retreat into its hood.
5) Labia. Same as clittie increased blood supply causes reddening and swelling but they don't turn into Dumbo's ears.
6) Fluid. Yes, it all is going well, the entrance to the vagina doe exude moisture. The quantity varies among women. Some of us get juicier than others, but it's not a sign of sexual prowess. Its nature varies with our normal monthly changes. No bucket is required.
Now I may be just an inadequate performer, but I do have some experience of other women's bodies, often when sexually aroused, so I would welcome other opinions, from every gender.
Guys? Watch and learn. I am well aware that your magnificent cocks turn into massive logs at the mere sight of ass.
As I say, the poetic or literary license is understood, but some may be left feeling inadequate if they don't drench the carpet every time.
I must start by saying that I feel I am as guilty of these excesses as anyone. I do try to avoid the obvious tropes, but it is still a constant struggle between staying true to what I know and casting up the sort of fantasy that will get a story read. It is pretty obvious that those who do not feel such constraints garner a larger tally of votes and praise, though that may be as much a measure of my writing ability as anything else.
So what to do? While I write first to please myself, to tell a passing good story, I do confess to feeling the prick of disappointment seeing few votes or reading "Not very sexy, but nicely written." on something I toiled over. I am, after all, fully as vain as the next person. That said, this is a bastion of erotica and the vast majority of the readers are, in one form or another, men. They expect the flash and bang of a porn shoot, from what I can see, and want it to be the point of the story, not just an incidental, though important part of the whole. For myself, I can't fill that measure of desire, but just try to spin out stories. I wish I had the courage to resist the compromise.
I don't read to get off so I don't mind. I'm judging their writing, if the story flows easily.
Writing stories is the main reason I became a member here. And over the years I've accumulated some 545 stories and poems. My views by my readers have reached over three million. I've been thinking back and I cannot really remember ever talking of squirting by women. Nor swelling of breasts. I do on occasion speak of the nipples becoming erect when aroused. The clitoris is mentioned as a place to be pleased but not to display itself proudly. Labia in themselves are seldom mentioned unless they are described as being moist and ready. The fluids that a lady exudes are enough to make the act of love pleasurable for all the parties involved in the action. Certainly not exorbitant.
Just as a side note in reference to descriptions of the male member it is often erect but never actually enormous. I prefer to write about normal and regular.
It seems that not being overly descriptive works well enough for me. I hope my readers share that view.
A lot of my stories are true so I do my best to maintain realism with a touch of elaboration on some details and events. Reading stories by other authors I don't judge their use of how they describe events or fantasies. If using certain phrases or elaborate descriptions helps the story flow and enhance the readers imagination then I personally don't see an issue with that. I know that I have enjoyed many stories by other authors who use various styles in writing.
Your responses have given me a lot to think about.
Perhaps I was a little hasty in criticising the more florid descriptions. If it's what readers expect in erotic fiction then it's down to me to decide how to play it on my own behalf and not criticise other writers.
Where would we have been it bosoms had never been allowed to heave and a man's breath was never hot. 50 Shades of Grey sold so many copies that for a while the UK ran out of silver ink to put on the cover.
I began writing for my own sexual satisfaction. Later I shared with a friend and my words provided satisfaction for her too. I submitted some to Literotica, where they were well received but with little feedback. Now I am in a much more responsive arena and I have received nothing but positive support and splendid advice. (My dialogue punctuation is to die for!)
So, let every shuddering spasm rattle the roof beams. Let the steam rise from every dangerously unstable erection.
Meanwhile, I shouldn't lose sight of the fact that, for me, all this has only just begun.
