Even if you take away it's meaning, it's a very consonant-heavy word. It evokes a feeling of harshness, even if not meant as such. I try to avoid using it flippantly, but I personally don't take it to be a "no-no" word. Not something I'd say in front of a kid, but no word should be .
I don't find offense with the word. I debated using it in my story and in the end it fit with what I was writing at that moment. I have used it on rare occasions but very rare at best. On the other hand as a paramedic who works all nights in the ghetto, I have been called that and many other things way too often. When called a "cunt" by one of my pleasant "customers", I usually just take the small needle I was going to use and pick up the biggest I can find.
If I am told I am a "Dumb Blonde Cunt" those are fighting words, I am told that "I Just can't get enough of your Cunt" that is very different.
The distinction in my house is a Pussy is something a young pre-adolescence female has and a Cunt is something a mature, sexually experienced woman has.

I don't find it offensive at all. I'm a person who gets easily competitive, so if someone calls me a cunt, I'll agree and insult them in my own way. As far as using it, I'll say "cuntmuffin" out of sheer frustration against technology.

I would only say that it offends me when someone uses it to intentionally offend someone else. That's generally my view on most words.
It's a word on the extreme level. So, as has been mentioned on here, it can be taken very offensively, or used to describe an extreme sexual moment.
Not my most favourite word ...finding it a crude and callous description of the female genitalia - BUT ...have been known to use it when really angry.
I use it sparingly... I will never refer to a woman as a Cunt.. however in times of hot hard sex, i will use it
