Right, but stuff like "Office Sex" and "Flash," particularly the latter, seem plain lifted from lush. Maybe I'm wrong, but they're not everyday categories.
Kind of like a kid cutting and pasting a term paper, and cutting the paragraphs that don't pertain to topic / interests.
Okay, i did see one of my stories on the xporno site.
is there anything that i can to to help stop this?
Thanks!
They didn't steal any of mine. I don't know whether that's good or bad.
I ran seven of my stories through Google Search (choose a particular sentence, preferably not containing a character name, out of any given story, do a search, Google will pull sites with sentences that match exactly). ALL seven have been stolen.
That xporno site is by far the worst...but the total count of sites with one or more of my stories (and this is just of seven--I stopped after that) is > 100. Bloody fuckers.
Want to spend some time wallowing in a Recommended Read? Pick one! Or two! Or seven!
Mine are also on that XPORNO site as well. But the user that has uploaded them is also XPORNO - so they have completely ignored the writer of the stories. I don't want my stories on any other site, but I guess there's nothing anyone can do about this is there.
I used to be a pervert. In here, I'm normal!
Watch this space...She is really - cumming soon!
I've been posting stories online for many years, and, yes, from time to time, I do find my stories posted elsewhere without my consent. So long as the perpetrators are not making a financial profit from my work, it's never really bothered me.
But it seems that many people who complain about their works being stolen, are actually committing the same unethical act themselves.
For example, nearly every person on Lush has photos uploaded to this site for various uses -- wallpaper, photo albums, avatar, story covers, etc. Now unless you hold the copyright to those photos, you are breaking copyright laws by posting someone else's work on a different site without the copyright holders' permission.
I'm sure this site has received hundreds, if not thousands, of take down notices over the years for copyright infringement regarding photos.
So are certain people being a little bit hypocritical?
I might be wrong. Please put me straight if I've made a mistake.
From what I understand the stories can't be copied in standard viewing format. Is that correct?
I had assumed if they are being copied this must be due to the pdf accessibility, yes?
If this is so, is it an option for the view as pdf option to be OPT IN rather than opt out (as is currently).
(perhaps this needs to go in the suggestion thread, yes)
Do you think this would have any effect on how frequently and easily material is copied?
Those authors that opt in to have pdf accessibility may then be more aware / acknowledging increased copying potential.
I don't know, just a thought.
I'm not actually sure that this Xporno site can be accused of plagiarism.
I've just been doing some research, and from what I've gathered, an act of literary theft can only be classed as plagiarism if the perpetrators are passing off someone else's work as their own.
I've not checked the site out, but from what I've gathered from previous posts here, the people responsible are not claiming the stolen works were written by themselves. Instead merely posting them without crediting the genuine author.
Can posting someone else's work on another site be classed as plagiarism if the perps are not taking credit and claiming they wrote it? It's literary theft, certainly, but is it plagiarism?
I honestly don't know the answer; law isn't my strong suit.
