I have flown a lot, from 1 hour flights to 18 hour flights. I also have a bizarre fascination with those TV shows and documentaries about plane crashes. It's probably one of my worst nightmares to go down in a crash, so I won't say I "love" to fly (in theory). I do love to travel though, and that desire outweighs any concerns about being on a plane. The idea of getting to a new destination always excites me, so I'm eager to get to the airport and start the journey.
I have had some bad flying experiences though, ranging from turbulence that felt like hitting black ice in the sky where the contents of your drink end up on the ceiling of the plane dripping down on you to one time where the plane was taxiing down the runway when it accidentally dumped it's entire fuel contents onto the runway and I was stuck in the plane for 5 hrs until it could be towed back to the gate.
Then I traveled on an airline (which has since been shut down due to it's atrocious safety record) where I was pretty white-knuckled throughout. Basically it was like a flying trashcan. Their planes were made up of 'spare parts' from other bankrupt airlines. The stewardess used a life-vest that looked smoke-burned on one side that read "Korean Air" (and it was not a Korean airline that I was on). The emergency exit (and handles) had duct tape all over it. The horrible cranking sound of the wheels lifting after take-off sounded like part of the plane was falling off. And of course, it landed with a nice skid half-off of the runway in Cancun. Oh and did I mention the plane had no air-conditioning on the flight back and was left sitting on a hot runway in mexico for at least an hour before we took off? Yep, college kids trying to save money on spring break - that was the last time I tried to cut corners with vacation packages...
Ah man, I have flown numerous times, and I absolutely love flying! The love goes as far back as to when I was 3 years old to now.
I have to fly on business and have flown a lot for holidays, etc..
I have been absolutely petrified of doing so my entire life. I know that it is irrational, in fact my family have been pilots since there were pilots.
It is not the flying that bothers me. It is the not flying......
well im an air traffic controller, so i better not be afraid of flying...lol
I want to have my pilot's license for both an airplane and a helicopter. It's a goal that I think is in sight right now.
I really hate that I get so uncomfortable so easily on a flight nowadays. When I was a kid I could do 7 hour journeys with no problem but now it's such a pain. Wish I had the money to afford First Class.
P.S. Another pet hate about flying isn't the flight itself but the amout of time that needs to be wasted dossing about in the airport. :-(
I don't love flying but I'm not terrified either. If possible I'd prefer to drive, I love a road trip. Flying makes me nervous and anxious but I'm not paralyzed by fear of it.
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser. Socrates Flying is the ONLY way to go!! Like Mazza, it's a rush taking off... pushed back in your seat and up you go!! The only way I can get to the West Coast sons expediently.... Love the landings too... brakes!!
Love it!
Stewardesses are always a fantasy, albeit a cliche.
Also love leaving mid air, (with a chute)!
All those little lights at night as one falls rapidly down!
If never done one should jump at least once!
Of all our inventions for mass communication,
pictures still speak the most universally understood language.
Walt Disney The thought always terrifies me but I'm like that with most things ha ha.
I love the take off, even thought it scares the bleep bleep out of me; untill the plane levels off then I take a deep breath and relax!
I love the landing... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee whooooooooo-hooooo Love it! Exhilirating.
I love looking at the landscape from the window too!
I work for an airline so flying is part of the job and it is second nature to me so no problems flying for me especially as I get upgraded to club class. The only way to travel
I love flying, the adrenaline surge on take off, the excitement of landing especially after a 28 hour flight... Tangier, via Paris and Madrid. I'm a shortie, so lack of legroom isn't a problem. Can't wait till my next flight.
i find the whole experience amazing tbh...i see the flight as part of the holiday, not as merely a transport device to whisk you off somewhere quickly
flying is okay, i dont fear it, but my stomach dislikes all the up down & side to side. and i dont like to see the contents of my stomach that often!
I love it for so many reasons, whole experience and anecdotes you gain! ..I don't even mind strict checking controls.
I just flew on Sunday and lady on checking said something about my boots and my respond was 'Ooo, they are nice aren't they!!' When I saw her face we both bursted into loud laugh. What she wanted is to scan my boots, lol!
Havent flown for close to 25 years. I became so very anxious and well frightened on the last flight and landed up well having a panic attack. Its such a shame because it restricts me somewhat on holidays which I can afford and I certainly have plenty of time to have holidays. Travel for me is actually a bigger problem (for reasons I wont go into) but I did manage a boat to the Isle of Wight (about 50 minutes) about 7 years ago. I really hope the days comes when one can step onto an aircraft and have a jab or pill which knocks one out only to be revived after landing at the destination .. omg I would go abroad 3-4 times a year then and for long weekends too !
I am really not crazy about flying but it is a necessary evil since I love to travel. I am not afraid to fly, I just get restless on long flights. I just hate sitting for long periods of time and there really is no where to go on the plane.
I do like the rush you get when the plane accelerates to take off and the view as you climb, especially seeing the lights of cities at night!!
I must admit though, I have been a little more apprehensive about flying since 9/11. I guess seeing a jet hit a building first hand can do that. But even that wont stop me from flying when I need to.
I love it! for me its like a long nap i never have the time to take! i fall asleep almost always even before the plane takes off, wake up here and there and fall back to sleep, maybe read a little and yep back to sleep again!
Turbulence doesnt bother me, if the flight attendent are calm then you have nothing to worry about!
There´s only 2 things i hate about flying: Airport security and airplane food!
I love to fly.
I don't sleep much the night before but it's not nervous stuff it's can't wait to get where I am going.
love love LOVE flying! at 33 i'm still fascinated by the clouds =)
I've flown hundreds of times and I neither love it, hate it or fear it. Just got back from the longest trip of my life and was basically just bored and passing time until I reached my destination, though I did get some sleep on the way there.
Hate it, hate it hate it. I hate take offs, I hate landings, I hate the booring bit in between. I hate it when the "Seatbelts On" sign lights up at 40,000 feet. I hate the lack of room, and I hate the toilets. The only thing is, that it gets me there quickly, IF I survive.
I love flying. Have traveled to three continents, soon to be four on them. What bothers me and everyone is the way planes are packed like sardine cans now.
So like a 26 hour flight to the Far East is hard to take when crammed into a small space.
