I love Led Zeppelin, but I'm going to be completely honest: I'm not too keen on Stairway to Heaven. Yeah, that's right! Bring on the hate! ;) (Of course, I know you wouldn't do that to me, naughtiestmommy!)

It's hard picking just one Zeppelin song as my favorite, but here's my (likely) top 10:

1.) Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (perfect harmony in this song)
2.) Ten Years Gone
3.) Your Time is Gonna Come (their most underrated song in my opinion)
4.) What Is And What Should Never Be
5.) All My Love (GREAT song)
6.) In My Time of Dying
7.) Since I've Been Lovin' You
8.) Going to California
9.) Hey Hey What Can I do
10.) Bron-Y-Aur Stomp (just a fun song!)

I know the list was unwarranted, but I could just go on and on.

I love the list, actually. And agree with you about "Your Time Is Gonna Come" (To me, this is what "Behind Blue Eyes" is for The Who) And I have to agree with you...Stairway is not only the only song I could play by ear on the guitar in high school, but every geeky wannabe guitarist I knew could ONLY play it (and not very well lol). I actually developed an aversion to the song after a while lol...took me years to be able to get caught up in it again. (I just moved to "The Wall" to fuel my asocial tendencies and The Moody Blues' "Days of Futures Past" to fuel my idealistic, dreamy counterpart lol)

Heartbreaker. But like a few people have already said it's difficult, nearly impossible in fact, to pick just one. I love their live recordings because of the improv, the songs are entitled the same, but they seem worlds apart. Love the way they just seem to go into their own wee world and just jam to the vague beat/tune of the song they are playing live. I have to admit I really hated Robert Plant's voice, but grew to love it, I think once you realise the passion in his voice, that's when you really appreciate it.

has to be "In the Evening" .... from "In Thru the Out Door"

The first drive in my rebuilt old Karman Ghia ... down the 99 Highway out to White Rock on a warm summer's evening .... the guy who rebuilt the engine loved the stereo in the car, and left this cassette in the stereo .... It was awesome .... loud and clear. Still makes me smile!

I agree, I must have come back to this thread several times trying hard to pick just one.

I listened to all the albums over and over and in the end I decided that if all the songs they ever did disappeared and only one could be left to reflect the band then I would have to say Kashmir.

I found this on Wikipedia and it pretty much sums it up:
All four members of Led Zeppelin have agreed that "Kashmir" is one of their best musical achievements.[12] John Paul Jones suggested that it showcases all of the elements that made up the Led Zeppelin sound.[1] Plant has stated that "Kashmir" is the "definitive Led Zeppelin song",[13] and that it "was one of my favourite [Led] Zeppelin tracks because it possessed all the latent energy and power that wasn't heavy metal. It was something else. It was the pride of Led Zeppelin."[6] During a television interview in January 2008, he also named "Kashmir" as his first choice of all Led Zeppelin songs that he would perform, commenting "I'm most proud of that one".[14] Page has indicated he thinks that the song is one of the band's best compositions.[15]

Led Zeppelin expert Dave Lewis describes "Kashmir" as:

Unquestionably the most startling and impressive track on Physical Graffiti, and arguably the most progressive and original track that Led Zeppelin ever recorded. 'Kashmir' went a long way towards establishing their credibility with otherwise sceptical rock critics. Many would regard this track as the finest example of the sheer majesty of Zeppelin's special chemistry.[2]

If I had to choose one it would be Battle of Evermore. The folk roots and Sandy Denny on backing vocals really make it for me. I don't like to choose favourite songs as my favourite song at any one time is influenced by the surroundings and my mood.

Battle of Evermore ... sometimes I just repeat it three or fours times ... my god the crap today (not all I agree) just doesnt touch great music like Led or Pink Floyd.

OK I posted this and then read the previous posts and wow I am shocked but pleased to see how many ladies like LZ ... I am impressed !!

I had no idea the guys all felt like that about it. That's pretty cool. Thank you, Wiki (and thank you, CB, for letting us read that)!

How come we can't pick Stairway to Heaven? sad

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
