True, but we changed and evolved a bit since Greek times, besides Op is asking how we personally perceive this site.

Perhaps I should have used a few more words then. For me, Lush is first and foremost a writing site, a place where I can showcase and get feedback for my own stories, bounce ideas and technical questions, help other writers grow and, when there's time and mood, indulge in some sexy reading. A porn site is a site where I go to to get quick kicks, and Lush isn't that. Lush has helped me grow as a writer and still does, and I've found some wonderful friendships here too.
Lush is a literary place. A place where amateur writers can share their stories and get feedback, and develop on their skills. I've seen a few people say Lush is an adult Facebook site. Lol. I do agree. Very much so. You can read, write, or make friends, or do all of that. Lush is better than FB. in my opinion anyway.

My point? Lush is not a porn site.
Considering the graphic content of the stories, chat and pictures, I'd say yes, it is. It's just in a different format than most porn sites.
But there is nothing wrong with that. We are all adults here.
In strict, technical literal definition terms, it is. "Pornography" seems to hearken back to Greek meaning "writing about prostitutes" and has traditionally meant any literature/media aimed at creating sexual arousal.

In modern usage, though, I'd say it leans more to the erotica end of the spectrum since "porn" these days refers more to explicit, often exploitive, media like hardcore vids. We at Lush (well, a lot of us) value stories that arouse through the mind and that portray relationships as well as the mechanics of sex.
Come on people lets get real. Maybe it wasn't intended to be a porn site but it is what it is. Its a porn site and a damn good one too. I'm not ashamed to admit it and I tell all my friends about Lush. So please stop try'n to justify that its not, but if it makes you feel better sure by all means. Whatever!!!

Has Lush Helped or Hurt me?

Well I haven't been arrested for being here or for the R word. On a more serious note. I'v met some really wonderful people here and proud to call them friends. Oh by the way I have also met some in real life and just as cool as ever...
Why of course it is a Porn site.... not sure what else you would define it as!!
It's not like main porn sites it is more an erotic site, there is some porn on it, but no way is it a 100% porn site
Lush Stories Site CONTAINS pornography.

(I've WRITTEN some of it...)

It ALSO contains Erotica, Literature, Poetry, Songs, Art, Connections, Chat, Advice, Discussion, Debate and Discourse...

LS is both what you SEEK FROM IT and BRING TO IT...

It is, (pardon the phrase...) a WIDE CHURCH.

In my own experience, I STARTED here writing pure Porn... In time, with the support and encouragement of fellow members, I allowed myself to explore the full resource offered. (Not ALL very well received!!!)

I'd NOT DEFINE LUSH STORIES as a 'Porn Site'. Rather, I feel, a site in which members sharing a common interest explore everything in and around that common interest and sometimes a lot more.

Pornography serves a SINGULAR purpose. (And a valid and worthy one I believe.) I believe Lush Stories offers that, but much, much more.

I VISIT pornography sites. (But I don't TALK to anyone upon those sites.) I TALK here a LOT!

Well said there Stephanie above!

As for me, what a journey it has been.
Lived the life I lead when I first arrived, I literally closed the site,! Imagine that. But I needed a question answered. And so my lush journey began. A hidden secret, it felt I was awful, and a bit ashamed.

Then, I met friends, read learned to post music and post pictures, and eventually dared to write. No I am far from being a good writer, but it helps me express things from real life to desires, some dreams, or even learned to open up to men.

I've never met anyone from here, but there are a few that have become life companions in the distance.
I talked myself into believing in the online affair. Almost as a fairy tale it was, then splash cold water reality comes.

Friendships here helped me thru a tough time in life. I think I have done what I can for those I call friends.

So when I first came here yes it was a porn site.
Now, I see the community it is, the dramas unfold, the support for one another, the back stabbings, the heart wrecking love that many feel.
So I just see it as that an online community, each brings and takes what one likes.
Think of it what you will, me.. I am here enjoying all that lush has to offer with in my set limits.
It is what you wish it to be. That's a no brainer. I know who and what I am, without false pretenses. I was in the 'porn' business, and what a boring business its is. Porn is not real, except in minds of fools.
Not in the way Porn Hub is or xxxvideo are (of course, I've NEVER visited those sites, ever...) but yes, this could be considered porn. I like to think of it more as dirty stories with pictures ??

I have three famous stories, 2 recommended reads and have come in the top ten in two competitions~ Come in and make yourself at home.

everyone comes on Lush for all different reasons and needs...I will admitt My " True Friends "..are very dear to my heart....My special love has made me a happy camper and is filling a void...So all the sex, tumblers , stories , music and the drama just add to make my time here in Lushville more enjoyable....
A porn site to me is a site that offers 1000's of videos in various (a few hundred) categories. First and foremost Lush is an erotic story site. Then there are the forums and chat rooms in which yes you will see images and gifs that are 'porn'. There is choice here; something for hopefully everyone and certainly you can avoid the porn aspect if you wish.

Yes Steph but as you say "much, much more."

Our own dear Chica mala adds as part of your 'much, much more':
"So when I first came here yes it was a porn site.

I like the word Community, and believe it is therapeutic for many of our members. What I mean is, even though we may come here probably mostly by reading the stories to stimulate us,
the Community here is irresistible once we get caught up in it. Because it is so often benign, we see it in a positive light, so can call it therapeutic. That is our hope even though often people can get hurt instead.
This is going to be a controversial idea I have expressed but we Lushies do so many things for each other, including PRAY for each other, PROMOTE AWARENESS, etc.
So I myself see it as a community with eroticism at it core, but that it is often used therapeutically, just to get a kind hello, or talk to a friend.....
I wouldn't consider Lush a porn site....and I know a thing or two about porn sites as I work for a company posting porn on porn sites. haha smile If I get caught on lush at work I might be in hot water but if i get caught on a porn site at work....well, I'm just doing my job.

THIS is an excerpt from my Profile/Blog post:

"What sets LUSH apart for ME is that here there is a genuine sense of Community; I feel safe here among fellow enthusiasts. On all levels, the site is carefully and conscientiously policed for the good of all participants in whatever mode or guise."

(It's MORE than a Porn Site!)

I see! Interesting how two gents are on the same page so to speak. Now to get the lassies to see us as Gents.
I personal don't consider Lush a Porn site. Yes there is some "Porn" here, but you don't have to be involved with it if you don't want to be. Lush is my second home , I should say first, I am here more hours than not. But I have gain friendships I would never have outside of Lush, And Why is that, Because here On Lush I can be who and what I am, Not some one my RL friends want me to be, I can take off the mask here and be ME. With no judgement of who I really am. I have experienced things here I would never experience in RL. So for me , this is a home for me, some where I come as soon as I wake up and the last place I am before going to bed. You can experience as much as you want or none at all, it is totally up to you. For me, I Love Lush!

Yup. A soft porn site. Nothing wrong with that. People creatively sharing their fantasies with others.

If it walks like a duck...
Yep. The site itself is not a porn site. But, as has been said before, we can easily find some things on the site that would fill the definition.
That's a good question. My attitude and perception of Lush has changed over the years I've been here. I certainly don't use the term "porn site" to describe it to my Pastor. I call it an adult literature website. As for it "helping/hurting" me, yes it has.
“It's nice sometimes to open up the heart a little and let some hurt come in. It proves you're still alive.”
i prefer calling it a smut site. smile

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I agree with you. Lush is not a porn site. The first time I was here, thought it was and never felt that I could be part of it. Now that I am back many years later, I find the true heart of Lush and is exactly what you say a sense of Community, a place in which you can learn, talk, being free and explore new parts that are already in you.
Like most things in life Lush is what you make if it. It is not violent or degrading to women, no one is exploited, and it does no harm, and there are many things that are accepted by governments that are more truly pornograohic than sexual images, and erotic and titillating stories and poems. And of course, the views expressed in the forums are entirely personal to the writer, and the forum moderators ensure that nothing offensive or illegal is permitted.

Members are here for a wide variety of reasons, of which this is by no means an exhaustive list:
First and foremost it is a site for the exploration of the erotic and arousing through the stories and poems, but it is a place to flirt, for the sexually adventurous and promiscuous it is a place to find partners for mutual masturbation or cyber sex, for many it is a place to exchange erotic and explicit images. But for many it is a place to find love and friendship, or for an escape from life's woes. So the list goes on, and I am sure every member has their own particular reasons for coming here.

To me, Lush is a place where you can talk about things that you can rarely discuss in Real Life. People are free to admit their kinks to the world. Where else do you find people who describe their last masturbation session, or last night's sex, or their biggest sexual fantasy?

I have found lush to be very liberating, and I have seen new users go from shy and uptight to sexually open to anything. You don't have to hide anything, like you do in RL.

I think of Lush as a kinky community website. As for porn? Come on, any website that you have to hide the screen from co-workers...it's porn.

This.

Regarding the "is your life better" question, Hell, yes! I have allowed myself to open up areas of my sexuality that I never knew I had.

GREAT thread and a VARIETY of different responses, ALL VALID, ALL TRUE...

It MIGHT be TIMELY here to once again thank the TEAM who MAKE THE WHEELS TURN...

(I know WELL how various Moderating Squads/Teams work to make our Lush Stories site what it is to all of us in whatever way we utilize the website. It can be a DIFFICULT and often thankless task. Its reward for those who undertake to do it is ONLY a pride in a site they can stand over. Their POLICING of OUR SITE ensures that on EVERY LEVEL standards are maintained and quality is controlled. They do this, incidentally, at CONSIDERABLE cost to their OWN creative time on-site.)

Lush is what you want it to be.

(But that DOESN'T exist by accident. Dozens of workers on EVERY LEVEL make it so.)

We are grateful to them.

Well, I am unable to open this site on networks that don't allow porn so yes.
The site itself is not a porn site. However, it has links to several porn sites and shows sexual images. However, this is an erotic story website, which is not the same. At least not to me.
