All "boy bands" would qualify for 'worst band' nomination, as Nikki first pointed out, but that's almost too easy.

I'll go with Black Eyed Peas. Will.I.Am is a second-rate producer/creator, Fergie's a shitty rapper and even shittier singer with no charisma, and the other guys don't seem to contribute in any meaningful way. Their songs are either ridiculous without being witty ("My Humps"), or are catchy but without a good hook (which leaves songs like "Boom Boom Pow" melting your brain for days).

I agree completely
Quote by Andee
Pretty much anything fabricated after the 90s. That's when music went from talent to technology ... and anything that involves more than two "boys" or "girls" lip-syncing to a backing track at any point in their fabricated careers.

I really have to agree with Andee. Most known "musician's" now aren't musicians they are technicians. Loops and effects and audio tricks. I watch Idol and wonder how did Minaj get where she is. I feel I can say this as I am a working musician in New Orleans and have been since I am 16. We had gimmicks then but learned how to play first. In this city you have to.

Worst band that's hard the worst band I have ever seen was Nazareth, not on record but not really good live.
Bob Dylan sure could not sing (he makes dogs want to commit suicide) but he did write great songs. Guns n Roses' Axel Rose got beat up by fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger in a bar, so he lost any respect as a tough rebellious rocker, but they were certainly not a terrible band, but not great either.
Kiss sucked to high heaven! What? Didn't they only play 4 chords or something? Blah!

Xuani had probably the best post on this thread.

Any 'boy band' has to compete for worst band ever. Bubblegum sucks. Anything that's too computerized. They do that to hide their lack of musical skill.

Justin Beiber? That's just juvenile kiddie music. When he becomes a man let's see what he does. He should really change his name when he does.

To tell you the truth I've never liked Tim McGraw's songs very much, even though he did marry one of the sexiest women in the history of planet Earth.
I really don't see how people can say Dylan. He never really considered himself to be a performer but as far as writing goes I would put him in a tie with Lennon/McCartney as far as leading music in the last 50 years.
Rush? Please those guys are Schooled musicians, you may not like their stuff, but when you start talking about talent they were around before all of the TOYS were being used and would be able to pull off stuff even without their gadgets. Nikki you do know your music girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris Squire one of the best bassists ever along with Entwhistle and everybody forgets John Paul Jones of Zepplin.
This comes down to taste aside from Rap (which I don't consider music, it doesn't have a basic component which is MELODY its chant) The boy bands are all Manufactured there is some talent but not enough.
And I know this isn't a band but would someone please tell Justin Beiber he really isn't good imitation of whoever!!!!!!
Buz, it's not if you liked someone I don't really like country being done today its more POP with a twang (no letters please) I think Tim is talented. Keith Richard died 30 years ago just nobody told him doesn't mean he isn't a great guitarist.
Some bubblegum people were really decent players but had to make a buck at the time.
ALL TIME WORST BAND OF ALL NO MATTER YOUR MUSIC PREFERENCE: Insane Clown Posse.

If you've never heard of them before, consider yourself lucky. Their lyrics are completely disturbing, talking about murder, , and other horrible things, and they don't sing, they screech. For some god forsaken reason, they have a HUGE following of psychotic nut-jobs that keep ICP in the "music" industry.

Personally I don't like bands like Jonas Brothers and pop-y bands like that (usually, although I love Owl City strangely enough) either, but ICP definitely tops the list.

You say "worst band" as if there's only one. I'd have to say any so-called "band" or "singer" who does "live" shows by lip-syncing, or make use of digital effects to hide how sucky they really are. If you're going to be a performer, then actually perform; there's no point in paying for tickets to see some over-hyped, over-privileged pretty person dancing around a stage.

Live music blows, studio albums are ten times better, why would I want to watch a blurry, noisy, low quality video of a band with tons of girls screaming in the background and all you hear is bass screeching (that's all YouTube is) or spend hours to stand in a crowd of people and get stuck in a parking lot? I'll take the studio album any day that's crystal clear and has the cool effects that are put there for a reason: they make the song ten times better.

I'll give you the point about the crowds, and the horrible YouTube videos of live performances. But the point I'm trying to make is if an artist can't perform their music without all the techno toys, then they don't deserve to be famous for their music.
I have been there you can never control live what happens happens. Anybody can sound good in a studio for one thing you do it till you get it right, on stage trust me you have one shot that is where the excitement comes from for a real performer. You still have toys but the toys don't play for you. Unless you are chicken!

Couldn't have said it better. I've been in the recording studio countless times and played the same song over and over again till the recording engineer got what they were looking for. It's a drag. However when playing live you don't have the luxury of someone sitting behind the glass saying "fellas, let's try this again." You have one shot, one opportunity, to get it right.
Chivalry is the only "wingman" you need.

I like Nazareth but never really considered them a great band and have never seen them live so Ill take your word for how bad they are on stage.

A few bands I have seen that really sucked live were Boston and Black Crowes

I agree about Dylan. One of the best songwriters ever. Neil Young is another who cant really sing but can write!

And also agree about JPJ. Funny how the bassist always gets forgotten, although he was much more than just a bassist.
Almost all mainstream music sucks!!! Real bands are working class people that know about music and write their own songs!!!
Everything else is fake!!! This fucking x factor / American idol shit is ruining everything I hold dear in my life!,!
I can honestly say I love all styles of music as long as it's real and credible!!
The world would be far more tolerable with out bieber and one direction and all that fucking shit!!!
Why are people such idiots!!!!'?? :-/

I agree for solo artists, if Madonna can't sing live she shouldnt be famous, but for indie and other stuff alot of them build specific sounds and use the toys to get them right. the live versions aren't what the music is supposed to sound like. You buy studio albums for the superior sound and quality, it doesn't make them less of a good band because they don't sound good live.

I doubt anyone would call Picasso a bad artist if he liked to paint meticulously in private, he just wants to put out the best painting he can. When it takes years to finish, I don't want to see a 5 minute Picasso doodle live. It's not going to be good. I don't expect it to be good, it doesn't make his studio work bad. It's still art.
I would have to say Jackyl. Just something about them that makes me want to cut my ears off!!

Almost all? So unless your poor, undiscovered, and playing for free at some corner cafe it doesn't count as good music? lol

I agree with you that they are a shite band - they have not really got much talent for singing, playing instruments or really being people, but I actually enjoy listening to them and I'm perfectly sane and very unlikely to go killing, and doing everything or anything they talk about in their songs.

That said, they have just succeeded in their goal. Shaggy2Dope and Violent J are merely personae of the two people behind them. They want to shock, annoy and provoke reactions just like yours and mine. The music may be crap and violent, but there's no need to go branding everyone who enjoys them as "psychotic nut-jobs".

I'm not trying to put down studio albums at all. In fact, I enjoy a good studio album every now and again. The problem I have is when an "artist" decides that the best show they can put on is playing their studio-recorded song over the sound system at an arena while they dance around lip-syncing.

Yeah thats vile, and unforgivable, unless your sick or lost your voice in which case you should postpone the show or cancel it and give a refund.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I have met a few of their fans, though, and they are exactly what I described. They follow ICP's words like a mantra
Bay City Rollers.

Same sort of league as LZ Stairway to Heaven.

It's cool, you only caused very mild offense, but I do know what you're getting at because one of my friends is quite the fan of them (Juggalo, as they call them) and does what you said about following their words like a mantra, which scares me a bit, so yeah, I get you. I think I sounded a bit too bitter in my first post there, I'm sorry.
Since some seem to think the worst are those who sell albums like hotcakes. Here we go.

I saw Dylan in concert once. Worst concert I've ever been too, and I'm a huge Dylan fan. He walked on stage, and played his guitar and harmonica and sang his songs. Never said hello to the crowd, never interacted with the crowd in any way. It was very boring, and disappointing. I'm still a Dylan fan because he writes so well, but I'd never see him in concert again. His musicality at the concert was fine, still a fine guitar player.

I'm not a big Rush fan, but I can recognize the brilliance of the playing abilities. There's a lot to be said for old school musicians who honed their craft by hours and hours of playing their instrument. The internet, and thousands of instructional books, and autotune have made things way too easy. There's more to being a good musician than learning notes and fingerings. You have to learn about pitch, intonation, tempo, rhythm, dynamics, chord structure.. and then you have to learn to meld what you know with the other musicians and learn balance.

Justin Bieber is a tool. He'll never write anything worthwhile because he's never lived in reality so he can't write about anything real.

When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser. Socrates
I can generally find redeeming features in most music and bands, but I have just never been able to get my head around these guys. Maybe I'm getting old, but their sound totally grates on my nerves...

Gaaaar!

I'm not much of a fan of these guys either (mind you, I have to say that the studio version is WAY better than seeing them live)
Seeing these guys is the ONLY time I have ever walked out of a gig early... They were that bad...

It's a toss-up between Queen or Meatloaf.
The local band I used to groupie with as a teenager. In retrospect, they couldn't sing, couldn't play instruments, couldn't write good songs you would want to sing along to, and having had 9 other partners since then to compare them to, I can personally testify that none of the 4 of them were ANY good in bed! But they had long hair and hot bodies and knew how to sweet talk my panties off of me .... and being young and stupid I fell for them, all of them. What the hell was I thinking?
