Anything recent by Paul McCartney ... Yes he's a Beatle, and wrote some great stuff, but his new songs are utter utter dross, so he gets my vote because he should know better !

I saw a comment from Nikki excluding Rap! I agree here goes ! Rap does not meet 1 of the 3 requirements to be technically music. It must be rhythmical, It must have some type of melody and most times have harmonies. Most rap is more chant oriented than then anywhere near melodic
Sorry just sayin

Please cite sources for this technical definition of music.

that's not even in a music dictionary Lady, I was a music major and am a performing musician. That is straight out of Merriam-Webster. I really have nothing against rap

compared to this:

Can you really say one has more of a melody than the other? By your own definition, Nirvana and any three piece rock band wouldn't be music because they don't have the harmonies required. They can't, with only a single guitar, and a single voice.

Exactly. Your three point definition of music...isn't definitive.

Here's the top definition given in the same dictionary you cited:

the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity.

Clearly, rap qualifies as music to 99.9% of the world. It's enjoyed, however, by a far lower percentage.

Harmony isn't required but there is harmony in most cases somewhere and always on guitar unless u play on a single string

Having "come of age" during the so-called 'golden age of rock' I can attest there was one helluva lot of crap put out back then which would make a root canal sans novacaine seem like a reasonable alternative. Here are the first five that come to what passes for my mind:

In A Gadda Di Vida: Jack called it, "pure torture' -- agreed
Honey by Bobby Goldsboro: maudlin, slow, dull and l-o-n-g
Ballad of the Green Berets: a big hit in '64, sure to start a bar fight by '66
Snoopy and the Red Baron: embarrassing, just plain embarrassing
Somewhere between 95 and 99 percent of all disco depending on alcohol levels and length of exposure

Old fart checking' out.

Music's gone to hell ever since that upstart Mozart appeared on the scene. and don't even get me started on Elvis.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit"

The only good thing that ever came outta Nirvana was Dave Grohl.

Hell I already forgot the topic of this thread. So I will just go with what pops in my head - The Carpenters. Two people, one piano, one voice. BEAUTIFUL! Yes i know back up band, back up singers. Oh wait, I think this is supposed to be the worst? Hmmmmm, if I cant hear the words over the instruments or i cant understand anything besides the screaming - its bad.

I thought "hope Of Deliverance" was good as a non Beatles.

It has to be 'Shutupa You Face' by Joe Dolce. What's more, it kept Ultravox's Vienna off the UK number one spot (the best number one that never was!)

This song was basically the demise of a singer who I used to have respect for in childhood, if you were to hear this song and play this against his old stuff you'll have a tendency to go "You son of a bitch"

Mind you, I've put a hex on many of you due to your choices. (pouty face)

Ya, Mickey Avalon's not going to be confused with Bob Dylan or Neil Young anytime soon.

Stairway To Heaven.

Really? Stairway to Heaven, tho played way too much, is rock and roll at its finest....for me anyways.
Clever Gem
I can't knock Stairway, and as delightfully cheeky as these two are, the song is crap.

Well put. But maybe more like playing without a ball, LOL!!

There is this song I can remember always playing on the radio when I was a little kid called "Afternoon Delights", not sure who did it that was just awful. It was even more sickening than "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone!
