What are you really an "expert" in?

Ease up, mushroom man. You're doing more to derail your own thread than anyone.
I'm an expert at "experts." You or I or anyone else here can claim to be experts at just about anything, but on a site where everyone is anonymous, such claims without credentials amount to little more than just gratuitous bragging.

TO be honest, I expect to be booted and banned, and I largely do not care anymore. The irony is, more often than not as I have said I support what many of you say, even if not to the fanatical belief you all seem to demand. I am a moderate, yet it has been made obviously clear to me that even "moderates" are not welcome in here, and must be excised. And laughingly, I only came to the forums to hopefully network with other authors, to see if we could help each other out. Even in creating this thread, my hope was to see if I could make "peaceful contact" with others, without all the political garbage that many seem to bring everywhere they go, and create some civil conversation without animosity.

we don't boot or ban people for being annoying fucks or disagreeing with our opinions or things like that. you really really really need to break TOS in a spectacular manner to get booted. so sorry, not gonna be making an martyr out of you unless you break some rules.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

...
So not to be impertinent, but is that not part of your very job, to keep discussions and conversations on-track, topical, and to prevent bullying and disrespect? To keep debates civil, and be impartial unless you are imputing as an individual?

And finally, moderators saying things will go out of control, while it is in their power (and their very job) to keep that from happening.

In closing, you said "It will". But I say, is it not your very job to prevent that from happening?

Gee, Mushroom, l meant it as a friendly enough social post, and you go into a tirade. Please don't be so sensitive.

We allow more freedom to bicker and bash in The Think Tank than the rest of The Forum. I am mostly a story mod, but might step in on something if it's getting too nasty in The Tank, and will turn it over to a Forum Mod.

If you notice further back in many threads, you'll see posts by mods asking for everyone to get back to the topic. But we do allow for playfulness. This site should be fun.

I was commenting on the historic nature of the Think Tank. TTT is quite abrasive, as many just argue rather heatedly for the enjoyment. It's been that way for a long time. The TTT can be fun. Just for letting off steam and being ridiculous. Sorry, but if TTT is going to upset you that much, consider The Spa for posting. It is milder and gets tougher moderating.

I hope this is helpful.

I am most familiar with, having had the most experience with, team (5-50) management. I have moved into Project Management, and still - on occasion - question my decision.

So what are you actually an expert in?

Vandelay Industries?

"Project manager" seems like the bullshit a teenager would put on his or her resume to get a starter job at Wal-Mart.

Once again, the very description:

Adult Swim - discussions and debate of a more serious and heavyweight nature

Not everything has to be a debate, or an argument. At least, not to most people.

And ultimately, this is a message area on a site about stories. And quite a few of us are also writers.

More than once, people have come to me because of my knowledge of things like the military or "vintage computers", because they wanted some information they simply did not have. And I have called upon similar individuals in the past. I even once for a story had a question about a comic book character, and one of the other posters was a self-proclaimed "comic book geek", so I knew I was able to get answers from him.

Not all of us live our lives based on arguments and politics.

When you go to the book store you dont see them mix the bibles in with the history books, or the fiction with the non fiction. They do this for a reason.

This forum has sections as well. This thread belongs in the spa.

It doesn't really matter, but you are a dumbass.

Has anybody told you recently you’re a real crybaby when you don’t get your way?

One question I’ll direct back to Mushroom is, “What did you mean by ‘expert’ since you put it in quotes”? Most posts here tell me what the posters are very familiar with and do a lot of, so on that basis, my specialty is database searching. You’d think that querying different SQL-based databases is much of a muchness, but each one has its focus and querying peculiarities. Couple that with the often poorly thought-out requests, and the class of “Informationists” is needed.
It all depends on your point of view.

What's wrong with a little gratuitous bragging? smile

I have some experience with web systems and web development, which was my day job for decades.

I have a strong layman's knowledge of astronomy and telescopes.

I like to think I'm good at writing.

I know more about baseball and baseball history than is probably healthy for a person.

I am actually wanting to change my job and had just thought about becoming a data engineer. I have worked quite a bit with SQL and designed file structures for projects. Research shows that is a much-needed IT profession. Would you mind if I msg you about your job details?

We could use a good baseball history & trivia thread. Maybe in The Spa.

We can ask questions like, what was Ty Cobb's number, and who is the all-time leader in grand slams, who has the record for striking out the most?

Go Braves!

I'll give it a thought. I've tried bringing it up a couple times in another thread, and was met with complete indifference.

That strikeouts record is gonna fall in the modern era - SO many more strikeouts these days.

I LOVED that 90s Braves pitching staff. Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz, oh my!

I have my picture with all three of them together and individually as a kid, with autographs. They were awesome!

At 9 years old l was at World Series Game 6 to see the Braves win the World Championship over the Cleveland Indians, with my dad, granddad, uncles and cousins. I am forever a life-long fan addict of the Atlanta Braves. I go to several Braves games each year. So l've seen them in all 3 home stadiums, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, The Ted (Ted Turner Stadium, and Truist Park.

You got to see them celebrate winning the World Series on the field!? That must have been awesome! My only World Series game, Derek Jeter hit the first frikkin pitch out of the park, and it was all downhill from there. smile I did get to witness tens of thousands of Mets fans boo John Rocker (and throw plastic water bottles) as he ran out onto the field during the Mets-Braves playoffs. What a chucklehead.

Tyrion said it best:

Don't believe everything that you read.

On another note regarding the "jobs" of the moderators. None of us get paid to do the work. It's entirely on a voluntary basis out of love for the site. We're not here to do jobs, we're just lending a hand to keep the site functional and organized. I'll move threads when I come across them and think they're more appropriate in another category (and I'll move this one), but I don't monitor the forum closely or constantly. Believe it or not, I've got other shit to do in my life, and my world doesn't revolve around the users on this site. So don't act so fucking entitled.

Don't believe everything that you read.

everything and nothing

Yes. We saw that, and spent awhile celebrating in the.stadium. Then with Atlanta fans leaving the stadium and in the parking lot. And cars covered in Braves flags & magnets, honking horns, even in the interstate on the way home. The impact really affected me at 9.

John Rocker burned out early. I think if he'd kept his mouth shut he might've lasted longer. He put himself in a bad spotlight, though a high percentage of major league baseball players and coaches probably were and are just like him but know to keep it from the public. I imagine Rocker had a Vote Trump sign in his yard.

Well, to be on topic, l'm not an expert, but do enjoy baseball and football trivia and history.

It wines. Which is far worse.
