I used to have these dreams when I was little about the Hangerman. He would make noises in my closet and try to come get me at night. It was serious stuff. My dad would have to look in my closet real well and try to convince me no one was there.
Well, in the spirit of facing one's fears, I examined what was at the root of that fear. No therapist needed. Now I've dedicated my life to shopping so that none of my closets have empty hangers--therefore no more Hangerman.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Please don't share that little piece of information with my husband. He was very moved by my conquered childhood fear. I may have to turn my "closet" back into another guest bedroom.

Farm girls grow up pretty fearless. I was handling stallions before I was 10, but my twin sister swung a poster tube at me and the sharp metal end almost put out my eye (I still have the scar above my left eye). Ever since, I've been wiggy about anything sharp getting near my eyes.

Ghosts. Demon children in movies scare me too, but I don't believe they exist. Ghosts I believe in.
