Ooops... I better be careful - I don't want this thread locked and a warning issued.

I know! We better take it outside... I'll smack you over the head with my powerbook. It will probably still work after... Unlike a PC that would probably shatter on that dome of yours.

And yeah, I know the tree listens better to all your harebrained notions...

Since the internals are not really going to be the same for the souped up latest & greatest MacIntosh vs the super bad PC, I'll take the MacIntosh cuz its outside skin will be prettier. Then I'd drop another $230 for the best Seasonic 1050 watt 'Platinum' power supply, $275 for a second mid range video card & connect it via SLI or Crossfire (for dual vid cards)..remove the cheap $70.00 RAM Apple uses & throw another $220 into it for quality RAM up to 16Gb and wipe the OS X off of it and install Linux.

I knew there was a reason I stayed out of Forums.

Use whatever computer you want but for crying out loud, let's stop judging others for their choice.
I would go with either. Right now my main computer is a pc. I do own an iPad 3 also.
I have worked with a pc for over 40 years starting with MS-DOS and will always stick with it because i can always access the code to make it do what i want not so with an apple it proprietery to Apple it like they are fucking CIA or something and they are too limited in their uses
i mostly use pc. which i built on my own. lots of the virus stuff wouldn't ever happen if people kept av up to date, and thought a LITTLE before playing on "teh interwebz".

i would probably go with the pc simply because tis what im used to, and it can handle the demands i put on it better than the equivalent macs. also, when the hardware fails, i can simply fix it myself, and not spend several hundred dollars.

DD, We all luv' ya' so much because, as always your words go right to the point...or the right spot, or area....okay the right feeling.

Searching for this thread using the term - Apple, in the lush search engine...gave me over forty pages of returns to flip through. Kind of of surprising that there would be that many instances where someone typed the word apple on Lush - and it did not relate to Apple computing.

Anyway - a recent Wired article: How Apple and Amazon Security Flaws Led to My Epic Hacking

I haven't read all of it, but I'd venture a guess that the author should place the blame more upon himself (such as - I am too fucking stupid to be on the internutz), than upon Apple or Amazon, but there is a lesson within the article also.
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.
If you can afford one then you will never look back after buying a Macbook Pro! biggrin

Question for the die-hard PC-lovers out there:

Let's pretend you just won a brand new computer as the grand prize in some random Techno-Geek Sweepstakes. The computer prize is the best of the best. But you get to choose PC or Mac.

You cannot sell it on ebay later by the way and pocket the change (I'm onto you, WMM!). You have to keep the computer - so the actual monetary value is irrelevant, but just know that both the PC and the Mac are the latest and greatest versions of both.

Now... with all things considered the same and cost out the window... do you choose PC or Mac?

Come on now...be honest with yourself... you sure you don't want to try?

I'd still pick the PC. My family had an apple computer when I was 6-7. It worked well for a little while then it started freezing up and crashing when we would try to play games on it. We got rid of it and got a PC. I've never had problems with any of my PC's. Our first PC got ruined in a house fire, and the second got ruined when a hurricane came through. My family has had two Compaq laptops since '08 and they're content with them. The only reason they have two is because one is for gaming and the other is my dad's personal computer. I've had my current PC since '08, still using Windows XP. No viruses, popups or crashes. The only thing I've had to do was change the RAM and graphics card, which is really quite simple. Even if I had millions and billions to spend, I'd still go with PC. More bang for your buck, not the other way around. My grandpa builds desktop PC's and they look pretty badass.
honestly, i would say pc. mac makes it extremely difficult to upgrade components so what you buy is more or less what you get over the life of the machine. as for the components themselves, the are now the same as what pc's use. then there's the software. it used to be that the additional costs on a mac were overshadowed by the software that comes with them. this is no longer the case. when talking about laptops, it used to that macs had longer battery life because of the demands of the operating system put on the battery. this again is no longer the case. these are the reasons on why i say a pc. but again it all comes down to preference.
Personally, I would go for a Mac, mostly because I do graphic and web design stuff on the side. I can do everything I need on one, but the cost is a bit steep. I have a PC right now, and ready to chuck it for another Mac.

I have a MacBook and I love it (most days)! It's an expensive investment, yes, but very worth it.
I'd have to say that it all depends on what you like, and what you use your system for. For gaming, you're probably going to want a higher-end Windows system. Macs are more useful for creative endeavors (video editing, audio production, image enhancement), but essentially, every OS has the same level of functionality. Sure, Linux doesn't get Microsoft Office, but they have the free Libre Office.

It is true that there aren't as many viruses and malware on Macs, but there are still some. An area of concern with Mac is the fact that there aren't as many security programs as Windows.

I've had experience with Macs, Windows, and Ubuntu Linux. When I worked on Macs most recently (for a job), I had more problems than I had on my Windows or Linux. This could simply be how the network and the machines were maintained, or it could be a software issue.

Another thought to consider is the fact that Macs are much more expensive than PCs. A cheap Windows notebook can run you as low as $300. Macs start at more than $900. It is possible to create a Hackintosh--basically install the Mac OS onto a Windows PC (not all computers will let you do this).

Point is, it's all personal preference.

While I wouldn't call myself a die-hard PC fan, I'd have to say it depends. If I still have my Windows and Linux systems, I would get the Mac. This way, I would have the big three operating systems. If I didn't have a computer at all, I would likely go PC.
Mac.
The "notorious gunman".
PC vs Mac is kind of an obsolete comparison since as others have noted they run on the same hardware now. It's probably more like Windows vs Mac OSX vs Linux.

I've not had the problems with Windows as many have mentioned but I like to keep my computer running efficiently. I've recommended Macs in the past to friends and family. With that being said I've also wanted to grab their windows laptops and slam it against their heads for what they did to it. It was so incredibly frustrating using their laptops, so slow, unresponsive, and all that crap all Mac lovers talk about. Then they ask me to fix their crap? how the hell am I supposed to know what you did?
I love Macs! I don't have to be tech support for them and I can live my life peacefully. smile Then I took their old shitty unresponsive windows laptops and formatted the drive and installed Linux on it. And it's a dream. Fast and very responsive!

What it comes down to for me is software compatibility. And Windows absolutely obliterates both Mac OSX and Linux.

If software compatibility was equal between the three operating systems, I'd choose Linux because of how customizable it is.

I'd take the PC because my gaming machine could use an upgrade. Mac is completely useless for that. Even my everyday computer requires software that only supports Windows. Now if my 2 computers already has top of the line parts I'd definitely take a Macbook and have a spin with it. Then I would repartition the drive and dual boot it with Linux. Perfect! :)

If you've had problems with Windows go with the Mac if you can afford it. Otherwise enjoy the lower prices and superior software compatibility of Windows based computers. :)
