I honestly dont see anything wrong with it either, i just want to find out exactly what attracts them to it... Also psych analysis does not have a negative connotation, the only way it would intimidate anyone is if they have a problem with things they dont understand

Psycho-analysis implies someone is undergoing analysis or therapy to unravel some issues. Why else would anyone undergo psycho-analysis? If you just want to talk then most people will have some friends they can confide in.
If you would be doing face-to-face interviews or questionnaires without mentioning that term it would not have that connotation imo.

No, psycho analysis is simply a term for eveluating someone mentally, there is no hidden connotation or horrible meaning i simply want to EVALUATE this fairly interesting personality trait, no more

Like it or not, Nina, "psycho analysis" does have negative connotations for anyone not employed in the mental health community. Unless you have a day-to-day experience with the topic, saying you want to "psycho-analyze" someone implies that there's something abnormal about them that has to be cured. Maybe it would be better to say that you want to study a particular fetish, to better understand it's practitioners...

This in itself already carries a promise of a judgement to be made. Most people don't like to be evaluated, let alone be mentally evaluated.
Yes we're arguing semantics here but given that your target group seems a bit of a closed community I think it would serve your cause to use more neutral terms as the ones mentioned in my previous post.
