I prefer education over laws in dealing with the problem.
Such as educate people that wearing a hemet on a fast moving open vehicle will help prevent serious injuries.
Wearing a seatbelt the same. But yet we pass these laws and fine/jail people who don't obey.
It should be the person's choice to wear the appropriate device to prevent harm not the law.
If they get killed because they refused to protect themselves then that's their problem not the law.
It's like suicide is against most laws - why? We'll kill a sick animal, and call it a merciful thing to do.
But for a human it's murder - go f'ing figure that one out.
Laws to protect people from other people makes sense - protecting someone against themselves through a conscious action
make no sense.

The idiot who gets themselves killed by doing reckless and stupid things doesn't go on to have stupid kids of their own. An interesting movie about this subject is Idiocracy.
As for laws to protect people from their own stupid behavior, it has devolved into a governmental cash grab above saving lives. Kind of sad, really.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
