I wonder how much of In-n-Out's rep is bolstered by California mythology though. Not to say that it's actually bad, but maybe we're partially duped into thinking it's good because we've all pre-accepted it as good, respecting it's revered status as a signature California fixture.

They have opened them up here in the Dallas area. I think there are a dozen or so here, I've tried it three times. I won't say my meals were bad, but they didn't blow me away, either. Yes, the meat was decent, and it's better than Wendys and McDonald's of course. But I don't think it holds a candle to a handful of local non-chain burger joints (not hipsterish $15 'gourmet burger' places) I've tried since moving here. Even Five Guys, another burger chain, blows them away.

I realize I'm blaspheming my west coast heritage here, but either we're pre-disposed to like it for emotional reasons, or the In-n-Out company itself has decided to go slack on quality as they expand. The latter is definitely possible, but I have a hard time believing it fully. What's more suicidal to your business model than to stop excelling at the one thing you're in business to sell (besides your own mythology)?

All I know is that it was always a big-time treat to eat there when I was a kid, and even when I was 18 or so. But to have it now, it's aggressively 'meh'.

It's delicious... Nerd.

I agree. After hearing so much about In-n-Out I tried them when I was in California. They were pretty good, better than McD or BK but after all the hype, I expected more. 5 Guys blows them a way!

Im probably not the best judge of any of these, except for drunken excursions to White Castle at 3AM, I never really got into fast food burgers, even as a kid.
You now get a fully packed pot pipe included in your kids value meal at Burger King. Eat your meal, get high , and order another value meal. How cool is that?
I don't really have a favourite but I tend to go to Subway a lot. But if I'm going fast food I usually just go with what I'm craving. McDonalds has the best french fries, so whenever I'm getting McDonalds I always supersize.
Being a California native, In and Out was the "cool" place, but their food's never been all that, imho. Here in Seattle, on the other hand, we've got Dick's Burgers which are awesome, cheap and fast. However, in California where my brother lives there's a growing chain called The Habit that has VERY good food! Hopefully they'll get to Seattle some day! However, one of the my faves is despised by Hubby, I LOVE Long John Silver's!! Hushpuppies!!!

Depends on where I am. In Richwood WVA, the ONLY fast food is Dairy Queen. Better to take a few more minutes, and go to Suzy's. She makes a darned good pecan pie.

Around here, I avoid "fast food joints", though I have been known to stop in at Taco Bell occasionally. Usually, if I want something quick, I'll go to WAWA and get one of their wraps.

For me it would definitely have to be Sonic!!! They have the best burgers and tater tots!!!!
NO, I think fast food is fatty, gross, garbage loaded with cholesterol and chemicals. YUK.

spoiler alert: everything you eat is loaded with chemicals these days unless it's organic. and even then i have my doubts.
Ive got to be the only Southerner who doesn't care for the Varisty, I find it too greasy. But I do love the orange shakes that taste like the Fred Flintstone push pop!

Panera Bread is my all time fast food restaurant.

Out of all the options, do you have one that you like the best?

Not one. To me DQ is for an ice cream cone .... but I rarely consume those.

I don't eat this type of food anymore (a good ten years or more).
Hate them all except Subway but that's only occasionally.
Subway and Firehouse Subs

Shakey's Pizza
Whilst visiting the US and travelling around the West Coast area my Czech friends always wanted places where they could eat as much as they liked for only 1 payment. Because I'm a native speaker they made me do all the searching and question asking [despite the UK/US language barrier] smile Anyway we tried various places but the one they liked the best was a place that although the service was fast it served food not usually thus designated. A huge variety of food was available in buffet style and they gorged themselves everywhere we could find this particular franchise and it was called The Golden Corral. I hope it spreads further to here as I must admit I preferred it to any of the others and would consider it one of the better US invasions of Europe. smile
I hit Wendy's when I'm too lazy at 4am in the morning to make my lunch and then it's the Grilled Asiago Chicken sandwich by it's lonesome. With my wife, we'll do an occasional Burgerville (Local NW chain) stop. They are a bit pricey so that's rare.

I've read Subway's bread is not too good for you. But neither is any fast food.
I don't eat fast food..never had mcdonalds
I can't remember the last time I ate fast food. If I recall and it was a long time ago it was probably a salad.

This fuzzy thing with the camera hit it dead on the head.
I don't eat fast food very often, but I do love Culver's fried cheese curds. What's not to love about fried cheese?

i don't know you anymore. btw, they have a secret meun to, tho you can look it up online, like grilled cheese sandwich (cheeseburger without meat patty).

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Don't eat it that often but favorites are Del Taco or In-n-Out
Roberto's, definitely!
I'd have to say Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill. They have great fish tacos!
Have to say Surf Taco... Awesome fish tacos
Chick-fil-a - food is good, people are friendly and service is very, very fast
That new Jim Beam Bourbon Burger at Hardees or Carl's Jr is very good.

I almost forgot about panera bread, it's really good, probably my favorite one.
Does Panera Bread even count as fast food?

Not what I'd consider it.

It's far more sit-down quality and wait a bit for your food. Fairly healthy food I imagine.

That's what I was thinking. I have never actually eaten at Panera Bread but I never thought of it as fast food place. Not all chain restaurants are fast food!
