My Mum says you have to put eggs in the fridge, which I do. My gf says that's crazy and her Mum has always kept them in the larder

My understanding is that there is no definitive answer to this... I watched one of these cooking programmes a while back and they have callers and one who asked your question. One chef said fridge the other said not.
edit - apparently there is a right way up too!

I don't know of a supermarket that doesn't sell them from normal shelf space rather than a fridge unit or chilled shelves. Having said that I put eggs in the fridge when I get them home.
On another note I apprehended a thief on Fryday. He tried to poach some eggs. I fried to catch him and managed to crack him on the head. He ended up in a scrambled heap on the floor! It was very eggciting, especially as everything turned out all-white in the end

I grew up on a farm. One of my daily chores was to feed the chickens and gather the eggs. We washed the poop off the eggs and placed them in a wire egg basket, never put them in the refrigerator. That being said, the eggs bought at the supermarkets are refrigerated, so we keep them in the refrigerator at home. Now the question I have: who first saw an egg pop out of a chicken's ass and decided that was something good to eat. I don't eat eggs and rarely eat chicken...they are nasty animals.
