Let me recap: WWII was a war between the AXIS powers and the Allied Forces, or the United Nations, as they called themselves back then. The AXIS consisted of Germany, Italy and Japan and the minor powers Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Thailand (and Yugoslavia, but only for two days, so I'll ignore them).

Italy deposed Mussolini and joined the Allied forces in 1943, Bulgaria sort of did the same in 1944, Hungary was defeated in 1944, Romania switched sides in 1944, Thailand threw out its government in a coup d'etat in 1944, and Germany and Japan capitulated in 1945. And with that, Second World War was over. The AXIS lost, the Allied Forces won.

Now you could argue, that one of the Allies gained more than the rest, but that doesn't mean the rest lost.

I said in real terms and even going by the agreed terms which were not kept a huge part of Europe was still invaded - by whom is irrelevant it was the war that allowed this to happen so the ending dictated who won (Stalin when advised they were in danger of breaking the agreement said that it didn't matter their troops were there and that's what really counted). Russia controlled a huge part of Europe and they were allowed to before the end of the war unlike Hitler who was stopped. So the way you would put it is Russia won the peace but I call a spade a spade the allies sold out and again betrayed Eastern Europe.

Donald Trump said he wants to be a president like Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson is that long, thin faced fellow on the US twenty dollar bill.

Native-Americans often refuse to use or accept $20 bills because of Jackon's picture on it. He is often considered to be very racist. He certainly led the USA in treating Native-Americans horribly. Stealing their land for one thing. They stole the legally owned land of the Cherokee nation and sent them on The Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. The Cherokee, who were mostly literate at the time, actually spoke and wrote 2 languages, Cherokee and English. They had their own Cherokee alphabet and published newspaper. The Cherokee was mostly land owners and successful in business. They tried to save their land by appealing to the US Supreme Court which was a puppet for Jackson. So they lost. As did many other Native-Amercian tribes under the ruthless Jackson regime.

Andrew Jackson also was an African-American slave owner without any regret that I know of. Jackson, a Democrat, was considered the president for the working class at the time. He had been a very talented and successful general in the War of 1812, handing the British army one of their worst defeats in their history, a seriously one-sided slaughter. Jackson was effective as president if one believed in his agenda, and was considered liberal for the day.

Trump, a Republican, espousing to be a Jackson, is a bit perplexing. Is Trump wanting to drop being a representative of the rich, powerful, the megacorporations, and the ultra right-wing conservatives? I doubt that? Is he wanting to squash minorities as Jackson did? Hmm... Or does Trump, in his imaginative bravado, think he would be a great dualist as Jackson was or military leader. Trump who avoided the military draft as opposed to Jackson, who fought in several wars and was nearly killed as a boy by being severely slashed by the saber of a British army officer for refusing to polish his boots?

Certainly, Trump's idea for the US-Mexican border wall does seem Jacksonesque.

You are assuming trump even has a clue about what Jackson did, what type of military service he had, that there was a War of 1812 or what it was about, or even when Jackson lived and died. After all, he just commented how concerned Jackson had been about the Civil War and that he would have avoided it had he just been the President a few years later. And this man also had no clue what the cause of the Civil War was about. So maybe, the $20 bill being the most common larger bill that most people carry and the fact that it is the bill most ATM's dispense, he is basing his admiration of Jackson on thinking that must mean he is popular. Seems like perfect trump logic... Perhaps he thinks that after he is out of office, or maybe even while he in still in office, they will replace Jackson's picture with his.

OK, that made me laugh. But for those who don't get the punchline, it comes straight from Betsy DeVos confirmation hearing as Trump's nominee for Secretary of Education where she advocated for allowing guns in schools (???), and her example to illustrate why guns should be allowed in schools was in case a grizzly bear entered a school. She cited an incident in Wyoming I believe, yet no one has ever been able to confirm this ever actually happened. In any case, it's become something of an albatross for her. And rightly so.

For those not familiar with who she is, this should explain it quite succinctly. She paid for her position in Trump's administration. Flat out bought it.

"Yeah, but, John, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists." -- Dr. Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) in Jurassic Park

I'm going to guess that if it happened it happened in Alaska. You see, in Alaska the bears actually chow down on people with depressing frequency, unless of course you're one of the bears.

In part of our AT&T training on firearms at work, um.... actually on the fact that they were forbidden at work, we learned that there was one exception. In all of AT&T's operations world wide, only one. In Alaska outside technicians were allowed to carry firearms in their trucks on company time after submitting a form to management. It seems that the bears sometimes thought a tech on the side of the road working with tech support on a Remote Terminal trouble looked a lot like a snack.
The people of The United States want socialism. The people of Venezuela want toilet paper.
A recent article in "The Miami Herald" reveals that the food shortages caused by the economic collapse in Venezuela have had at least one positive side effect. Whereas before Venezuelans were having problems being overrun by herds of wild burros (donkeys), they've solved the problem by eating them. Now they have no burros or toilet paper.

Quote some facts disputing the ones I gave rather than just saying it's a fact. Hitler may have started WWII but my point was he was supported and elected as is your current leader and the pre-election behaviour of both these men illustrated just exactly how they would behave once in office. Oh and please don't misinterpret this to mean I support either of their actions. The allies behaved exactly in the way I've illustrated and in real terms lost the war. My theme was the reality not what some flag waving naive people think. I was advised to read history books well these facts are all contained in those rather than in romantic movies like Saving Private Ryan. As for your cock thingy well I can live with whatever that means. By the way there were people who were saying the same thing as me in 1945.

"I saw a film today, oh boy,
The English army had just won the war,
A crowd of people turned away,
But I just had a look,
Having read a book, I'd like to turn you on..." -- The Beatles in "A Day In The Life" from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Apologies to your younger folks! The Beatles were an obscure group that Sir Paul McCartney was in briefly before he founded Wings.

Somebody in the back wants to know who Sir Paul McCartney is? Never mind!

Most of us unfortunately learned our WWII history from watching war movies with a tenuous grasp on what actually happened. The possible exception being anyone living in one of the former Axis countries. Losers tend not to make many war movies. The one exception I'm aware of is "Das Boot".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Boot

Anyway. For a rather in depth look at who fought, won and lost WWII look here.

... awesome ... but ..

I hope someone tells him just how old it is. Otherwise he might think that it was built with American taxpayers overseas aid money.
Israel benefits greatly from that I believe?.

Or perhaps he is thinking of another wall... or walls ...

Personally I wondered what he prayed for and if he even prayed at all. I hope he said "thank you".
Perhaps he was just checking the design suitability of foundations for the next Trump tower.

But it's an awesome tweet

Nice to see Macron putting this attention seeking buffoon in his place.

The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

I think it would be funny if he gets shot, but I would simply prefer that he goes to jail, if he was guilty of having the Russians hack the election. Neither will happen, so I just hope he goes broke, which will never happen either.

Seriously?

Sir, it's never funny when someone gets shot. You need to seriously re-examine a few things.

Shooting him is hardly the answer. killing rarely is. And now you have given a certain poster in this thread cause to say we are all calling for his execution or assassination (when in actuality it was trump that made a veiled hint about Hillary getting shot).

Well MSN agree with you, but personally I think you have been watching to many Snoop Dogg videos sweet man. Anyway some crazy Brit has tried. [I also think there were two crazy 'attempts' on President Obama too].

Meanwhile, there is a man , Paul Wood, a BBC correspondent and a Fellow of the New American Foundation. He writes for newspapers also and wrote a really good article about this for The Spectator, a British newspaper. He discusses the three alternatives the "Establishment" will use to get rid of President Trump at all costs. [He threatens the status quo, i.e. threatens their money supply]. Those alternatives are assassination, coup, impeachment. The coup is not what you might think, as his discussions with the Democrat's elite indicate.

Here's a European magazine... L(l)iberal of course. You will like the cover.

Don't you get picky... giggles.. Eire is in the EU?... and you can buy this magazine in France and Suisse... maybe even where you are.

Actually it may happen, sadly. If, as many here are, you are staunchly pro our current establishment [i.e. Democrat. Liberal, Progressive] then you will stop at nothing to destroy the current administration. The point is that those in power will never give up that power willingly and President Trump, for all he may be, is flying in the face of people soooo corrupt they just have to get rid of him. He threatens their income. If he is assassinated, I wonder which minority will get the blame?.
