Spammers sending mail group invitations (Unread messages)

We have some pesky spammers hitting the site at the moment who are creating mail groups and sending out spam messages. If you read the message you will then be notified of other members' messages in that group so you may see your unread message count increment.

Whilst we are trying to stop these spammers you can go into your mailbox, select the three dots and 'Mark all as read' to clear your unread mail message counter to zero.

Ah, that's the explanation for this morning. Vibes and thanks to the mods dealing with this crap.

I literally just "marked all as read" and seconds later got 52 (invisible) messages - nothing in my inbox but yet counter incremented.

That is because as we identify the spammers we deal with them and the mail messages are no longer apparent but the counter is not modified.

Sadly these spammers seem to have returned. Please raise an abuse report/profile report but deal with your unread messages as above please.

Yep. I just left the group and the message went away but was rather surprised to have 51 messages (due to it being a group, I guess).
