Amen. I include race if it germane to the story and some of my characters' backgrounds might suggest it (I have a girl is mixed English and Jamaican in one story for instance), but some of my characters could easily be envisioned as whatever the reader wants.

Another reason would be a person sets the settings so that the slider never appears even if one is on the main/home page daily.
