Could a list of competions be issued at the start of the year to give writers more time to craft their story? Perhaps Christmas is the only time that competitions are run. Perhaps one for Valentines if it's not already part of the system. Cash prizes are not essential, the boost to the ego if you do well would be sufficent reward. I penned, 'Carol for Christmas' for the comp but must have forgot to tick the box, Oh well! Live and learn. Stanart.
I noticed some of the categories are being neglected, only a handful of stories.
Maybe we could have category specific competitions to help fill out categories?
Example, I looked at MILF today, like 10 or less stories!

------- En vis mann slår aldri en hund i klubben med en stokk, fordi hunden vil vende rundt og biter mannens ballene av.
Just because you find that subject not to your liking, why should it be banned . is one if not the biggest catergory and a ton of people enjoy reading it. I don't agree with the subject matter but I don't pass judgement on people who read them. If you don't like something don't read it.
How is any of this relevant to the question being asked by stanart.
A few more comps during the year would be great. I agree cash prizes wouldn't need to be awarded as recognition for your writing should be enough.
How about a readers choice ( ANY catagory ) . Content matter should not be a factor .
I was just commenting oneline not putting words in your mouth. is such a genre and I know a lot of people don't like it. I was using it as an example that's all, should have made myself clearer.

They could if we had a list of competitions
We don't have any set list, I set them up when the mood suits. People are generally given 2 months from the announcement of a competition, to the deadline, which is plenty of time for most.
If you'd told me earlier about the competition entry, it would have been moved. I will read it regardless, and ask our judges to do the same.
Primal - that category was only added a month or so ago.
Some categories tend to overlap a bit which accounts in part for why there are not many stories in them...for instance, MILF stories can usually go under "Mature"...
Alan.
Eh, I don't agree. I have never even clicked the "mature" category because to me, that means 75 year old grannys.
There is a big difference between mature and MILF...or maybe I am just too use to adult dvd categories.
Drat yous Necho! Way to put me on the spot ;)

Solution: change "mature" category to "GILF" category.
No confusion

If there was a list for the whole year think how long people would have then to write a Christmas story then. 12 months? I think the 2 months is more than enough.
Trinity...you are way too kind...but, thank you...
I do think more competitions would be good, I have been a bit out of the writing mood...been spending way too much time posting stories on other sites the last couple of months, but I am very competitive and competitions would be incentive for me...in fact, the last couple of stories I wrote were strictly because of my competitive nature..."Merry Christmas, Baby" for the holiday competition, and " Is Best" because I was discussing how popular is on this site with another member, so it was a blatent attempt to gain ratings...lol...because of the popularity of the subject. I think it came out well though, and most people saw the humor in it...
But, I really do believe going more than two months out with the competitions is not good...I would end up writing stuff and forgetting about it...
Thanks again Trin...
Later,
Alan.
I hadn'r realised that 2 months notice had been given. I had been away from the site for a little while, and 2 months is enough, Although writing a story in one night? Do they do a draft and think about it for awhile, making inprovments, honing it to sharpness. but that is by the way, my original request was for an expansion and more notice. Surely this would improve the quality of plot and characters. Best regards to all. Stanart.
Stan...I generally write my stories in one night, one look at my profile comments and the dates should confirm that...but, I do have most of the story worked out in my head before I sit down at the computer...otherwise, I would just sit there and stare at the screen...
I don't do draughts, I don't even read my stories until after I post them on the "other" site...and then it is basically to correct errors...what can I say? I am just a sex fantasy machine..
Not to stray too far off topic...I think year round competitions would be great...a good idea would be short one-page story competitions where there is only a day or two notice...the topic would be announced, and members would have a day or two to write it up...a one page story...a real quickie, so to speak...
I think that would interest a lot of people. It can be a challenge to pack a lot into one page. I know for me it would be a great excercise...my stories have gotten longer and more complex since I started writing and it would be nice to get back to basics for a change...I know I won't do it without strong incentive. Some of my most popular stuff is my early stuff which is very short. "Morning In The Park", my second story is only a page and a half. It ended October as number two on the Top Ten for October list here on Lush. "Getting A Raise", my fourth story, also only a page and a half, has been viewed over 50,000 times on various sites since June...I would love to get back to those short, to the point sex storie, but can't seem to do it on my own...
That is why I would love a "short" story competition. They have a lot of writing competitions on writing.com. I have stories posted there, but I don't visit the site often...the erotica does not get a lot of views...but, it is interesting to see the competions...flash writing, that sort of thing...those non-erotic competition ideas can be used here, no doubt...
Just something to think about...
Later,
Alan.
Thanks for that Alan, I understand and have taken it on board. It think four comps a year would be ideal. Christmas is a must. Somebody already had mentioned halloween, perhaps valentines for those romantically inclined and one half way through the year on a theme selected by the judges. Stanart.
