I struggled with this one. When Hannah suggested, probably about 6 months ago or so, that LYF be given this award, I explained to her that he'd Canadian and we really don't want to encourage the Canadians to think they're anything more than subpar.
When Katherine and Jen and god, I forget who else - a boatload of mods said, you know, he did the Pride thing and this thing and that thing and he's pretty awesome and really, you're just being stubborn - what do you have against him?
See, that's not the issue. The issue is that I've always tried very hard to make sure I wasn't playing favorites here and the truth is, Lyf is one of my closest friends. Has been for a while. Started out with me taunting him and calling him MooseBoy and MooseRider and, well, things progressed.
Here's the thing
He's been a member here since Dec 2012. He writes. He's modest about that, but he's taken first in a comp, and gotten a couple of RRs. I think those that call him friend will attest that, despite being an Incorrigible smart ass, he has a huge heart and has been there for a lot of us when we needed someone to lean on.
While he credited Jen,Nicky,and I for the pride avatar contest, the truth is, all we did was say 'sure, do it' when he asked if he could. I think that everyone involved had a lot of fun with that and it certainly brought a real sense of pride and community out on the site.
Honestly, he's just an all around good guy and an asset to the site and I really can't think of any more reasons to tell people, 'no, really? him? you have to be kidding'. In my opinion, he's among the ranks of the most awesome and really, top 5 awesome for me, personally, here on lush.
I could gush about him forever, really, but I'll leave some of that for whoever else would like to say a word or three.
Oh, and I know him well enough to know that he'll be humbled and embarrassed by this and, at the same time, he'll lord it over me and act like an ass for the next couple of weeks. I'm good with that. In the end, I will make him pay.
