I just can't think of many better ways to start a Monday. Everyone at work will be asking me what I'm so happy about!

Congratulations to Buz, Gilrenard, and all of the finalists. And thank you, so, so much!

I'm giving out kisses today. Come get yours!

how many times are we allowed to get in line...?

biggrin

congratz, Ms B. i had faith - and Buz and Gil, as well - i love Batgirl right off the bat (get it?) and praise to Gil for taking a chance with a lesser known sport - brilliant writing all 3 of you - in fact, all top 10 of you - thank god i don't judge these things.

Congratulations to the winners! I'm honoured to be one of the "bubbling under" group, and delighted to be awarded a "Recommended Read".

And only one place below the Editor's Choice group too, so I nearly made it to the top table! smile

i have faith that you'll get there - keep on doing what you do, Annie!

I knew before posting my story that there were only going to be two spots left. Buz was an easy place right off the bat. Pun intended.

Fucking wanker writes the humorous raunch too fucking well. Hard to compete with such damn fun reads.

Good show, bro. I think you overestimated my entry. I've been outta the game too long, mate.

*I haven't read many of the entries due to lack of time, but I read a few of the top 10 and each is deserved.

Congratulations to all the winners, to Burquette for her most excellent story, to Buz for his lighthearted approach to both sports and sex, and to gilenard, for making fencing interesting with his brilliant well written story.

Congratulations to all of you who placed in the top ten. There can only be three winners, but the top ten represent the best of Lush writers, VirgoGo, WannabeWordsmith, oceanrunner, naughtyannie, MadMartigan, HereTeleia, and ChrisM are all top contributors to Lush.

Everyone who entered the contest is a valuable and valued member of the Lush Community, and I wish that there was a way to reward all of you. Here's a hug for everyone.

For once I'm glad I wasn't able to enter (due to real-life situations) after seeing the winners and the Honorable Mentions. Damn... talk about some amazing talent! Congratulations to you all!

Congratulations to the winners and runners up but if the kind of language required to win one of these is such as is displayed here there Forget it. I will not enter another.
The most viewed story and not even a top ten? Really?
And I'm sorry if this sounds like sour grapes, maybe it is.
WooHoo!!!! 27,000 views! Could I dare to hope for a famous story...

I'm touched by the sincerity of this congratulatory message.

There's a judges' rubric somewhere that indicates that this sort of language is in fact required to do well in competitions. (Not everyone has it though. I got my copy by cozying up to the inner circle of Illuminati.)

Let me add my congratulations to the contest winners and runners up, but especially Burquette, who wrote a hell of a winning story (which actually may have been short on use of the words "fuckings" and "wankers"), and who doesn't deserve to have her accomplishment diminished by some of the complaints about the fairness of the competition that we have seen in various threads.

I couldn't agree more with what you said about Buz. He's an amazing writer who has worked to raise the bar of excellence in erotic writing.

I think you misread what MadMartigan was trying to convey. He wasn't being disrespectful to the other writers who entered, he was praising an amazing writer. If you want to enter a writing competition where the story with the most views wins, try another site where the writer with the largest fanbase wins. Here at least those writers who might not have a fan base like Buz (or someone like him) can still win or at least make Top 10.

Is it frustrating when you work hard on a story and it doesn't make the Top 10? Fuck yeah it is. But to lash out the way you just did is truly unnecessary. Burquette, Buz, and Gilrenard won gold, silver, and bronze medals with their stories (pun intended) after what I'm sure had to be a difficult judging. Even those who earned a spot in the Top 10 did so with amazing writing and story construction.

Maybe there should be a Top 20, or a Top 30. (insert sarcasm font here.)

If you choose not to enter another Lush story comp, that is your choice. I didn't enter this comp because real life got in my way and to be fully honest, I didn't have a decent story idea anyway. I hope when you look back at what you said, you'll see that maybe you did misinterpret what MM had said. Either way, Lush is packed full of amazing writers and is a great place to practice and build your writing craft. Once again. major congrats to all the entrants and especially to those who placed in the Top 10 and our three big winners. The story comps help bring out some of the best in our writers.

Hmmm... Not sure about that. Sorry.
Maybe the subject didn't sit as well with the judges as it did with the readers.

I apologise if I appeared not to understand MM's comment but, in fact, I was using his style to illustrate my point about the kind of language that proliferates here. I agree entirely with what he said.
My point is that the readers opinions don't really seem to count so number of views, scores, comments, etc. are irrelevant.
Also an opinion.
I would also like to point out that I would never disrespect Buz (and register my surprise that his view count was so low) or any of the most excellent writers here and I agree that Lush is a great place to hone ones skills but the competitions are definitely flawed.
I probably will enter another... maybe, because when my work is read more than 17,000 times, considerably more than all of the other entries (and most of my other stories too) then I am very happy.
I think the subject was too controversial for the judges to even consider letting it in the top ten but there also I am pleased about the level of debate it generated and I thank most sincerely all those who left comments and voted whether positively or negatively.

Story view count would be expected to be much higher on stories submitted early in the competition over stories submitted much later.

I have submitted stories in several competitions in the past and have led the competition in view count before when I got my story entered early, but did not place in the Top 3 in any of those instances. I never have expected such a thing as view count or even vote or comment count to play any role whatsoever in a story competition judged on writing, grammar, content, concept, storyline, and overall quality.

PS. This is an erotic story site. While there are some love stories, MOST of the stories are about SEX! I don't know about y'all but I say things during sex that wouldn't be considered proper etiquette in church. So why not write sex stories using real language of sex? If you read my stories you will see the words fuck, suck, pussy, cunt, dick, cock, pecker, prick, snatch, twat, tits, titties, dripping, cum, cumming, squirting, humping, thrusting, poking, pounding, ass, asshole, pucker, puckerhole, hell, you may even see tallywhacker or goober, or even, "Fuck my slutty cunt!"

Sorry, Buz. I did not mean to offend you. I genuinely meant that I was surprised at your view count.
In the past, Nicola told me that the judges use a spreadsheet which is supposed to take into consideration such figures.
I take it then that you are saying that what the readers think is irrelevant?
Worse still you think my story lacking in terms of "writing, grammar, content, concept, storyline and overall quality"?

Quite frankly, I don't understand what is going on here. I do believe I liked your story and posted that I did so in the comments section when I voted a 5 on it.

I don't understand what your problem is with my view count. It has been coming in at about 2500 views per week since it was posted. That seems pretty normal to me.

ever do something you were really proud of and then have someone come along and tell you how much it sucks? between this thread and the Site Improvement thread, with the Rubrics conversation, i can imagine how the winners feel right now. thanks for being awesome.

Judging writing is and should be a subjective process. It’s not an algorithm to be gamed. Will everyone agree all the time with every decision? Of course not.

I am grateful that the contests are judged by people who look at the stories carefully, whether they were smash hits or relative box-office failures in terms of views.

Complaining about how one’s story did or didn’t do may be a natural response, but perhaps one best reserved for in private, to one’s friends.

I highly recommend that anyone who hasn’t read “Thin Ice,” “Batgirl,” or “Touch,” should queue them up immediately, along with any of the other stories in the top 10. I’m particularly partial, in that list, to Virgogo’s “Taking One for the Team,” my “Gold-Medal Whore,” and ChrisM’s lovely and sweet, “Judo: the Gentle Way,” which is really beautiful.

Congrats to the winners! a job well done.

Actually, yes, I have. Right now.
I would like to set the record straight once and for all. I am not saying that any of the stories were poor in any way.
I would never, ever mark down a story just because the content was not to my taste.
My gripe is about the competition, not the writers.
Enough said, moving on...

Buz already addressed the story view issue. I will be the first to admit I haven't read any of the entrants (but I intend to very soon starting with the top three), but I have learned that in most instances... the judges had it right from the start. I will say that my only "Famous Story" hit at the right time and had a record number of views. Yet I have older pieces that have hardly been read. It's just who is on at the time. It does suck when a story with a lot of views doesn't place as well as it should.

I think we need to trust that the judges once again got it right.

I had no idea my typical humor and method of praise would result in a long-winded discussion of what wins: story views or quality of prose. And the answer is quality. Or we get BS like Twilight and 50 Shades of Terrible winning awards.

I won't call you fucking wanker with love again, mate. I'll call you a Monarch Butterfly or some other fluffy shit like that when you post a good story. Kapish?

Unless Georgia pulls another win out of their asses against my Tigers. Every fucking time, dammit. Every. Time.

Don't you call me a Monarch Butterfly or any fluffy ass shit. I am a crazy ass wild wanker for sure, and plan for my stories to ooze with drippy, hot, nasty hair pullin' sex and all the dirtiest words that go with it. And expect you to read it and like it!

Damn, my Dawgs did pull that one out of their ass. As diehard fans we live and die with that. I won't complain when they win that way. I sure do ache and moan when they lose that way. Your Tigers had us by the throat and then left just enough life to come back and bite. I guess our team's rivalry will be an annual thing for a longtime to come now. Y'all did bite us in Athens in '13, and I was there on the fuckin' 50 yard line yellin' my head off and cussin' at the end. Fuckin' rowdy ass, slobber knockin' SEC football ain't for sissies.

I want to see another story out of you soon.
