You can rely on me for a top score as always.
This is why we don't let SJ judge the competitions

Great news for everyone, even if it drastically reduces everyone else's chances of getting some prize money.
Super excited to read your entry. Sure it will be a knock-out.

This is my first time entering a competition.
The contest rules tickled my fancy: (paraphrasing here) incorporate theme(s) and color(s) into a story.
“Great!” I thought and starting typing up a frenzy.
As I wrote in MS Word, I had these other characters I totally thought I could add and explain. Then I remembered the last contest rule.
!&*#+!$^-?
* Uh-oh *
The word count increased , I got increasingly nervous, and then I conceeded that I had to ditch the other characters since they weren’t central to the story.
Oddly enough, that actually helped me focus on what was essential and what wasn't.
Completely unintentionally, I guess I have to thank the “Rainbows” Story Competition creators for being secondary editors.
I’m somewhat unreasonably proud of this story, even if it doesn’t win any awards. I hope others like it, but I’m going to like it regardless.
I want to encourage anyone who’s never entered a competition here or anywhere else to give it a shot.
You might surprise yourself.

lol word count is always a bitch - i'm at about 2000 for the one i'm writing and realizing i have a LOT more to somehow cover in 1500 words... *sigh* looking forward to reading yours, soon as i'm done with mine. ok, maybe i should do it before, i have a bad habit of waiting until the 11th hour...

I'm kinda disappointed how few of the entries are in the Gay Male category so far. The competition is very dominated by Lesbian stories.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of those stories are phenomenal—some of the best I've read—but I had hoped for a bit more of a spread and, in particular, to see some more great quality Gay Male pieces as we don't tend to see as many RR- or EP-quality stories in there.
If anyone is thinking of slipping in a late entry, consider going Gay, just for this comp. ;)

Horror: Women Of Dark Desires(RR), Doll Parts (EP), Lo! Baphomet! A Queer Erotic Horror (OS)
A cheeky little micro: Go Fuck Yourself!

Just don't read the other entries until you submit yours, I'm glad I didn't or I wouldn't have been motivated to write.

I couldn't even begin, after last year. My entry for last year's Pride Comp, a trans story, turned into a 2-part, 16,000 word story - not atypical, just totally outside of comp requirements. This year I'm facing reality and sitting it out. Good luck, though!

Gotta agree with you on that. Had I read any of the entries before I submitted mine, I would have given up before I'd even started. Some writers here are hella good.
Let that be a lesson to you newbies (or wannabe newbies): write first, edit, submit, then look at other writers' work. Don't psych yourselves out.

Everyone should feel pride in a published competition entry. If it doesn't have merit, it won't get published. And *not* winning doesn't diminish the quality of your submission. I wish more newbies would enter and see it is the best way to attract new readers and give other authors a chance to view your writing. I loved your entry!

I noticed this in my quest for the Prolific Writer badge. My Gay Male story got far less comments, votes, reads than my stories in other categories. And I noticed same for other stories in that category. That is exactly why I chose to write my comp piece there. I would like to bring more reads, and thus understanding, to this category as well. I did have straight male readers tell me they wouldn't read my story. And my reads are lowest yet compared to my other comp entries. But, I, like the other authors stated about their own entries, am still happy with my entry. The comps make us all better writers!

You probably need time to recover from the blood vessels you popped straining to write your microfiction in 100 words.
