The famous 1937 song "Over the Rainbow", written for the musical motion picture "Wizard Of Oz" and sang by the young Judy Garland, tells, carried by the hope and optimism in the tune, about the dream of a place far away, free of all trouble.

In modern terms, the rainbow theme in the lyrics matches the multicolored flag — the representation of inclusion at pride marches. In the context of June as Pride Month, we're picking up this symbolism of the LGBTQ+ community.

Competition Theme

The theme of this contest is based on the meaning behind the colours on the rainbow flag, and we're looking for stories that feature Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer themes.

We want writers to be inspired by the accompanying image (of which there are many variations) and use the message behind one or more of the colors.

For example, "Vitality and energy" - perhaps your main characters are athletes who discover they have an interest in the same sex during a hot workout session? "Serenity and nature" - maybe an all girls camping trip turns into something unexpected?

Feel free to use as many or few of the colours as you see fit!

To make it more challenging, we are setting a limit of 3,500 words for this competition.

Prizes:

1st Place: $200
2nd Place: $125
3rd Place: $75

Full details and dates can be found here >>

I'm loving the word limit on these latest competitions.

It's a great challenge for our wonderful writers.

Already looking forward to reading them.

Goodl luck.

Cool theme. Not sure I'm up to it right now, but I love the premise. Good luck and good writing to those who do take it on.
I've promoted this new competition on our socials now.

I'm looking forward to reading these stories.
I hope a lot of writers enter this one. It is harder to write a story outside your sexual orientation, but gives you a chance to learn and open your mind. I can't wait to read the different stories. I have had a few readers say they wont read a Gay Male story from me. And while you are all entitled to your reading preferences, I would like to suggest you read sonething different every now and then as it broadens your mind and you may gain an understanding in something you previously misunderstood. Best wishes to all who enter.

I really like this, Kimmi.
I agree, opening your life to new experiences gives you just that. Experience.

Good luck everyone!!

I think that's silly that someone wouldnt read your story because youre not a gay male writing it. I dont think Stephen King is a psycho-murderer, yet he seems to tap into them pretty decently. I havent read your story yet, Kimmi, but it's definitely on my list.

are you sure about that? smile and Kimmi? i am looking forward to reading your story. you never disappoint.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I'm entering this one so anyone who reads my stuff better get ready to have some super gay shit shoved down their throats.

Thanks, Tam. I am not sure if they meant they won't read because I (woman) wrote it or if they just won't read that category. I noticed that category seems to have lower read counts, which is why I wrote in it smile

Thank you! I worked extra hard on this one so I hope readers will give me a chance and take a peek. Low read counts so far.

I read a story that Stephen watched his friend get decapitated when they were young. They were in Main where they lived, playing near railroad tracks or something? He claims he doesn't remember it.

I'm gonna read yours too, Kimmi. And Clum's; I've never read an interactive here before biggrin

Guess my lesbian story is in trouble, too, then. Though I think one of my earlier attempts at a "ladies-only" piece did okay, but it wasn't in a comp (it was written for one, but I ended submitting a different story for various reasons).

I'm about 2/3 done. Just having trouble sticking the landing (as usual).

That actually fits with "The Body" (the King story that the movie Stand By Me is based on). It's about a group of boys looking for the body of a kid who supposedly got hit by a train.

Confirmed.

As a young child, King witnessed a horrifying accident. “The event
occurred when I was barely four,” King recounted. “According to Mom, I
had gone off to play at a neighbor’s house — a house that was near a
railroad line. About an hour after I left, I came back, she said, ‘as
white as a ghost.’ I would not speak for the rest of the day. I would
not tell her why I’d not waited to be picked up or phoned that I wanted
to come home. I would not tell her why my chum’s mom hadn’t walked me
back, but had allowed me to come home alone. It turned out that the kid
I had been playing with had been run over by a freight train while
playing on or crossing the tracks… My mom never knew if I had been
near him when it happened. But I have no memory of the incident at all,
only of having been told about it some years after the fact.”

No wonder he writes horror.

Its weird to me that there are closed minded people on lush of all places, Personally speaking I actually love gay male stories/porn ect ( Last story I just wrote is gay male ) We should all take the time to continue to broaden our minds, Living life is about experience and learning if we avoid it are we really even living? ( Sorry didn't mean to get so philosophical there lol )

Yet another story competition that I won't win. I don't think the fact that I never submit a comp story should disqualify me from winning.

There should be a badge for not having participated in any competition. It be future proof from the get-go, unlike some other badges, as it will automatically remain valid no matter how many competitions will be added latter on

Hi! Ummm ... if only 9 people enter the competition, does that mean all entries make Top 10! Asking for a friend ...

Great news for everyone, even if it drastically reduces everyone else's chances of getting some prize money.

Super excited to read your entry. Sure it will be a knock-out.
