Winter Wonderland Competition

The winter season is soon upon us (in the Northern Hemisphere).

It's a magical time of year when people gather together, feast and find various ways to keep warm.

Competition Theme

For this competition, we want writers to use the attached image for inspiration.

We expect story themes to include: Après-ski parties, going "Off Piste", groups of friends enjoying outdoor activities, crackling log fires, heat / ice play, hot ski instructors, romantic getaways, resort pick-ups, hot sauna or jacuzzi sessions, getting lost in the snow etc..

With it being a busy time of year for many of us, and to add to the challenge, stories for this competition should be short and sweet, being 4,000 words or under (please use MS Word or keep your story entry to within 20 words of our site's word counter).

Dates and full details here >>

That’s a lovely picture
The picture reminds me of Blofeld's lair in the Swiss Alps during the movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Already writing one that fits the theme, but it's 1k words even now. I really don't want to compress the heat of the story to make it fit the word count. Hell, that scene will probably exceed the word count, never mind the setup and closing.

With the closing date being after the new year, there's at least time to muse.
Good luck to all who enter. Nice theme, especially given our early winter up here.
To clarify, the theme here is Winter and that picture is inspiration? Or do we actually have to work from that picture? Winter I can do in spades (I am Canadian, after all) but that picture ain't my winter.
I'm loving that picture ...
I am sure I can come up with something

we have a separate contest for the canadians. sun drenched bahama beach. palm trees, bikinis, mai tai, etc.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Actually, that's the story I was going to write before this comp came up.LZyvQalv0gvvKXKM

The latter!
Nice photo. Looks chilly. Brrrr!

I made Buz one of these last winter. I'm now taking orders. smile

That is funny! Buz would wear it too.

We have touque. I wonder if there is a French Canadian name for that knitted penis sock?

Got a story locked and loaded on the picture and competition theme.

Mine is making good progress (yay, I am writing again)
Holy shit, I have an idea and some words down. I might be able to enter this!

(I feel like I always say this and end up taking too long. Lol)

And it's very warm and comfy, and expandable.

On Her Majesty's Sex Service: A XXX Parody

"Do you expect me to talk?"

"No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to come."

Edit: Actually, that was Goldfinger... still a good porn title though, lol.
No promo for the comp in the featured items on the front page this time? I just cycled through the images and there wasn't one.

The only James Bond movie to ever make me cry

Yes, On Her Majesty's Secret Service was so heartbreaking as Louis Armstrong was singing We Have All the Time in the World and Bond was holding Tracy as she died.

Another idea in, and shot down. I'm already 2k words into the setup, and enjoying the way it paints my MC too well to cut any of it out. It's utilizing some of the stuff I've picked up in the research rabbit hole. Not enough word space left to fit into the guidelines. Another one that will be on theme, but posted outside the contest. I'm officially 0-2.

Guess I'll start mining for another source of inspiration.

Good point. I'll see if Liz can knock us one up. I don't mean to alarm anyone, but she's been busy writing

There are half a dozen new sliders to go up too. Gav is a little backlogged right now. There have been issues with the Australian broadband network and he's been scratching around on a tethered connection this week.

Now let's not go there today ...

Another big thank you to Liz for her time and creativity on the banner:

The new competition badges are designed and ready to go. Gotta be in it to get one though. smile

I think Ping and Green_Man have the whole collection so far? Impressive!

Yes, you're right, Liz. It's a nice feeling looking at them each morning when I sign in.
Well, both of my "Fit the theme but won't fit in the word count" stories are up. LOL

I'm about halfway through "Leigh Ride" and about halfway through the wordcount, so we'll see if this one will squeeze in, or whether it will be my 0 for 3.
Mine is hovering just below the word count and is into editing and refining so I should be good there. One week left to get it done and in, though, before I go on vac.
And this one is a go. The first draft clocks in at 3700, so I've got a little room to play with in the first read, if I see a spot that needs a dash of this or that. Plenty of time to let it simmer while I write something else to get it out of my head before that read as well. Nice to not be right at the wire for once
