I'm working on writing stories, but I can already see new categories that I can make use of. I have two stories about escorts so Money is a shoo-in for those. Need to review the others against my story list to see what might fit where.

Animals are real, monsters are not. If your 'monster' looks, sounds and acts like a horse, it's not going to get through. Leeway is given for supernatural creatures.

No squid sex, then (pouting)?

What if I personally believe that Cthulhu is real and alive, sleeping in the lost city of Nan Midol? Does my belief that He is real end up disqualifying Him? What bitter irony.

Seriously, the new categories are deeply cool. You are keeping the site alive and evolving and open to new ideas. Even the endless debate over the categories that will surely ensue is invigorating. Thank you, Nic and Gav and sprite and everyone who made this happen.

Nan Madol. And he might well be

Wait. You want to have sex with a squid? Sounds kinda cold and clammy, lol.

I love that there are more categories, even if I haven't been around for a while. It has my mind racing with new ideas. Of course I can move some of my old stories to some of the new ones as well. Once I'm on my laptop. Some of these are pretty exciting, to be honest.

However, as someone who has written on all of the previous categories, it's once again frustrating to have to do it again, because chances are, I'll lose the badge. Isn't there a way to keep our old bade and work out a way to add to that one or something? I guess it doesn't matter, in the end, those who want to keep that badge will write in all the categories no matter what.

On that note... Who wants to co-write a watersport story with me? ? I know nothing about them.

we've been discussing a 'fix' for this issue. just not sure what it is yet, but yes, hopefully, those who have it currently will be able to retain a badge of some sort for their efforts. smile

No, Nan Midol. It is lesser known than Nan Madol because it only rises from its blood red waters once a month. smile

And I don't want to have sex with a squid. I want to BE the squid.

I have successfully moved my story A Woodland Walk from Flash Erotica to the Outdoor category without any problems at first. However when I click on Outdoor on the home page it does not appear to be listed. This may because it takes a little time for the indexing system to catch up. I will have a look at some of my other stories later to see if any if them could be recategorised.

It shows fine for me on the 'outdoor' category page. You might need to clear down your browser cache or try a hard refresh on that page for things to display properly. smile

Not only will I never earn the Omnium badge, I'm disappointed that you're bringing back the category after all the work done to get rid of the category. I'm also curious how some of these new categories will fit within the Lush TOS.

I will post separately about this, later today.

Please don’t bring back the category. It is promoting vile illegal behavior. It is a criminal behavior in all states. For us that were victims of this foul practice Lush was a place that took a rightful position. If it is about increasing viewership then I suggest you try the new categories without and see how it works.

I’m particularly excited about the ‘True’ category.

I'm certain that it wouldn't have been brought back if it wasn't absolutely necessary in order to keep the site alive. Unfortunately, bills still need paying.

The only place the content will be entertained is in published stories and if you hide the category in your account settings then you will never see any of it on the site. I think that is the best solution that can be realistically offered.

I am glad to hear of the new categories. I think it shows Lush is trying to evolve. It was getting pretty stale in regards to the competition. This makes things interesting again. As for as genres overlapping goes, at least this provides visibility to stories that might not otherwise be seen.

Just a thought. Incest had always dominated the top ten lists. I hope a way can be found not to include them in the top stories of the last 30 days. Those who want them know where to look. Let’s save the top lists for other types.

I'm sorry, but I'm with Chuck on this one. I have this category blocked and always have. With eleven new categories being added, Lush had no other choice but to bring back the Incest category? I feel this will keep those of us who will never touch the category will forever be denied the Omnium Badge and it will drive some members away.

Lush had made the right decision to get rid of the category and it's a shame they are going back on this "No More Incest Stories" rule. I fear what might be coming next.

While I'm in no way a significant figure on lush, I feel I should at least mention that I am distraught the addition/return of an category.

Now, this is not so much a debate about on this website. While I personally find extremely disturbing, I'm free to simply ignore every story.

But as far as I've seen on every single website out there, stories are consistently unoriginal, trashy and badly written. They're always a channel for the absolute worst in erotica. And while I would love to believe that lush will be different, that moderators will protect us from the flow of atrocious writing going on out there, I just don't. I trust that they'll try, our mods are awesome. But I am convinced that even if the worst might be kept out, the overall quality of the place will inevitably be lowered. That in turn, always spills into every category.

I understand that lush needs to be financially stable, but lowering its standards isn't something I'm comfortable with as a writer. I personally chose to publish on lush because it seemed to be the site that had, by far, the highest quality-control on stories. That in turn, made lush a place for actual exhange between writers and readers rather than a dumping ground for every poorly written fantasy out there.

If that fades away, so will I.

I see fantasies are in the lineup but not on Nicola’s list. Is that a glitch or a real category again?

I see now it must have been a mistake and was quickly taken down.

Incest is back among the story categories. Not apparently a new category (having been banned) so has been smuggled through the backdoor. Can't be bothered to check but I guess has been removed from unacceptable content.

There is a separate announcement about it here:

https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_postst58958_The-Incest-Fantasies-Category-will-be-reinstated.aspx

She is quite clear that while the story category is back and stories in it are allowed, discussion of the subject on the forums, groups, and chat is still verboten.

I had the same exact thoughts. If revenue is the driving force behind this change I wish it would have been open for discussion. I would have gladly paid more for my membership if it would have prevented that category from being resurrected. I am sure I am not alone in that.

I am contemplating my options. I have no illusions that I am anything but an amateurish author but I too feel I don't want my stories on a site that includes that category. I have enjoyed my time here and am truly conflicted about leaving, but I feel that is what will happen and has already begun with other authors leaving.

Discussing it (the reintroduction of the category, not the subject) being verboten too has hit me the wrong way as well. A feature I loved here was the back and forth and exchange of ideas that occurs in the forums. I am just saddened at this point and couldn't just remain silent about how I feel.

As a former story mod, well....quite some time ago... Quality control shouldn't leak into other categories. We (they now) are usually very good about not accepting nonsense stories filled with shite grammer and spelling. As for plot, etc? Well. There WILL be total horseshit no matter what they do. There's plenty of published drivel out there that people spend actual money on. Cough...fucking Twilight. Hack. Fifty Shades of Trailerpark Shit.

Now......Maybe what could be done for those less inclined to be bothered by the category is, if possible, code is written for members to be able to turn off this particular category on their account dashboard. They don't have to see the category and they don't have to see any stories on the mainsite feed.

That seems like a win-win to me.

Looks like they anticipated this already. I don't believe there was a category feature like that before right? Seems like a non-issue. Unless the "living in ignorance" thang rustles your jimmies.

It does. I find that category repugnant, plus there’s the small matter of, you know, being illegal and all.

Just because I can hide that category doesn’t mean it isn’t here. And if it is, then I don’t want to be. Ignorance isn’t always bliss.

there was, actually, an annoucement. and, as for as forum posts, it's still not acceptable - only in stories, which are easily blocked.

to address people's concerns. that same standard that applies to other stories applies here. we only accept well written stories. consent is still necessary, the age rule still applies.

bottom line, tho, is i know the stats. the decision really came down to this - either Lush restated this particular category or it eventually we closed the doors. we lost a lot of traffic, which means ads and revenue. that paid member system helped, but the percentage of paid members vs un-paid and non-members is a huge gap. the servers cost, the contests cost, etc etc. personally, i prefer taking on stories over losing what i consider to be the internets best erotica site.

this is a privately owned website with TOS which people agree to abid by when they sign up. one of the stipulations is that certain subjects are not tolerated. is one of them. the stories we publish are fantasies. pure and simple. we do not condone the practice in real life.

Like you, I have no illusions about my own writing skills. I am aware I am far from the best here. I also feel ill-will that has been re-introduced as a category, and I am saddened to see friends of mine, as well as talented authors and site contributors, leave because of this. Of course, I understand the need to pay bills and keep this site afloat. However, I currently feel conflicted about writing for this site. I also feel conflicted about staying.

Although, as Sprite pointed out, I would rather this site still be here, rather than be forced to close down. A sort of necessary evil, to have the category.

I have hidden the category from my view, in the hopes that I can just ignore it. The whole 'see no evil, hear no evil' thing. My views towards , however, are still very strong.

While most of the new categories sounds like fun reads, one comes to mind that I have absolutely zero interest in.

Quick question.

I've never blocked a category before, until today.

If someone we follow publishes a story in a category we have blocked, do we still get the notification about said story?

Thank you in advance. smile

we really get that this wasn't going to be a popular move - to be fair, i'd been pushing Nikki to do this for a while, not because i was a fan, but i wanted to see Lush stay solvent. her deciding to bring them back wasn't a decision she wanted to make.

the reality is that we were probably the only erotica website that didn't post the I stories - certainly the only site of this size, and it was hurting us a great deal. web traffic is what pays the bills. ours dropped by 50% after we stopped publishing those stories. 50% that hurt, especially when we went ahead and added servers anyways, just so this site could keep growing. i am deeply humbled to hear that people would have paid more for memberships, but really, it's still peanuts compared to the revenue we need to keep things running, let alone, growing as we'd like. "porn" sites don't generate the ad dollars that they used to, especially if their web traffic is decreasing rather than growing. it's as simple as that.

yes, it sucks. yes, i wish we didn't have to, but we do - the decision was not made lightly, but it was made.
