Pasting itallicized words in a story

In my last story, I had a section I wanted to italicize. However, the story editor didn't recognize the italicized words and I couldn't figure out how to italicize them. I clicked the slanted icon but it never worked inside the story when I tried highlighting the section. I even tried retyping the words, but nothing I did worked. I had to submit my story without the italicized words, and lost the effect I was trying to achieve. 

Is this a flaw in the story editor or am I just doing something wrong? I didn't have any problems with this on the old editor. It onky started after the site was upgraded.

Yes, I've noticed many welcome improvements to the story editor. I was having issues with line spacing as well. Hopefully those will clear up as well. I'm happy to see Lush is working on getting the bugs out of the new system. The overall appearance of the site is much improved now that I'm getting accustomed to it. Thanks for your reply. ~ Jill

No bother at all! I'm not sure if this will help, but when I write, I have word and google docs line spacing set to 1.5 and double return for a new paragraph?
