OMG!!..WHAT a dirty / obscene topic!!
lol i'm an oddball that actually enjoys doing it! i love the whole ritual of separating clothes and gathering the necessary items for each load. i also like the way the whole house smells like lavender and the hum of the dryer. i don't have any major tips to share; i wash everything in cold water and hang the bulk of my laundry on those racks designed to be used inside to dry.
Loathe. Loathe. Loathe. It's never ending. The Laundry Loathe
Um... You put laundry detergent in the washer with the clothes, then you run it. "Normal" is a good cycle to choose.
And then, after it buzzes or something to tell you it's done, you take out the clothes and put them on a drying rack.
If the drying rack is full, you can hang the shirts on the shower rod (on plastic or wood hangers, never wire) and put the rest in the dryer.
When the dryer buzzes or something, your clothes will look better if you take them out right away, unless you just take them out and put them in a pile on your bed.
Or you can take everything in a big bucket to the nice people at the laundromat and pay them to wash, dry, and fold it all for you.
Or you can take everything to your mom's house and wait for magic to happen.
Or you can wear your clothes until some are dirtier than the others, then you put on the relatively clean ones until they're relatively dirty, and then you switch. You can do this for a while. Then you should burn everything.
Sorry yall, I have really enjoyed reading this thread.. It has really been funny.. Thanks for explaining how to do laundry Porgy.. hahah.. When I run out of panties ,then I do laundry, oops I don't wear any .. ok when I run out of clothes I do laundry. and I follow Porgy's tips...
Finally I don't do laundry anymore.... the new washer is way to complex for my understanding. Damn thing plays music
Bacteriologically, modern wash programs that wash at 30C or 40C are pretty disastrous. They effectively take the bacteria which are on the dirtiest item and spread them around so that they are all over all of the items in that wash.
My washer fits in a ridiculously huge amount of laundry and there are only two of us in the house so if I was going to group things in carefully matched colours I would run a quarter load of laundry of each of several types, once a week, which would be hugely inefficient.
Instead I run the washer every couple of days with whatever is ready to be washed and I put in a washer ball or some soap nuts instead of detergent, a colour run sheet and some pet safe disinfectant goes into every load in both the wash and final rinse too, in order to not spread the bacteria from one thing to another.
This means that His scrubs, which are meant to be washed at 60C (but we have no other clothing that can be washed that hot) are properly clean when they come out and the cloths that have been used on the floor steamer don't smell like they would otherwise.
I don't iron any more (I've got a problem with one arm- that's a good excuse not to!) unless it's stuff for formal wear, but I do put the steamer on His scrubs before he puts them on to make sure that they are properly clean.
Up here the laundry cleans themselves.
It's not something I hate, but it does take a lot of time in this household. At least 3 machine loads every day, 7 days a week. Double that, if I skip a day, or if anyone here "collects" their laundry a few days before throwing it into the basket. It pays here, to sort into light, dark, red/purple, jeans, Light/white towels, washcloths, kitchen cloths etc. and the dark version of that. And then there's the bed linens. As most bad bacteria need moist, I make sure the stuff is properly dried (on the line if the weather's okay, in the dryer if not) and handkerchiefs, pillow cases and anything I use on my dishes and glasses get the steam iron (as do wrinkled clothes).
A little kindness can be so valuable, yet costs almost nothing
In many countries being gay is a crime, and even in modern societies, politicians try to legalise discrimination. Your voice can make a difference. Have a look at All Out to find out how.
Hey... pssst.... that's an l (as in luscious) at the end of my name, not an i
