For me v-necks are undershirts only (to be worn with shirts that you leave unbuttoned at the top, not too low of course. You don't want to look like a cheazy know-nothing sleaze.) Crew necks only for outerwear and snug but not tight. My wife likes to buy me RockStar jeans and such, but I prefer Wrangler or Levis jeans, not loose, but not tight either. You can wear a blazer with jeans and a dark t-shirt and sometimes a fedora or even a baseball cap depending upon how casual the setting. Jeans and t-shirts also go well with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. If you do that however, make sure you have the appropriate big western buckle belt. Don't look like an amateur.

Suits! Not too tight or you look like Pee Wee Herman. No one in the business world takes a tight suit seriously. You will lose all credibility. Not a baggy suit either.. It can let it fit a little tighter but make sure your tailor knows what he is doing. In casual settings you can go tieless, but I never do that for business.

Cargo pants (definitely not tight, a little loose with those.) A crew neck t-shirt or polo shirt will go nicely with those. Leather casual shoes or sneakers. Baseball cap will work well with this. In cool weather a sweater or sweat shirt is good.

Khakis. With a polo shirt and deck shoes or penny loafers, NO socks! Blazer optional. You can also toss a dress shirt into that mix (roll the sleeves.)

PS. NEVER wear crocks! NEVER!
I always tell him how 'HOT' he looks if he wears something I like. Though I can't get him to ditch his orange t-shirts at least I was able to get him to buy the right size. Suit for formal occasions. Super simple colored sweater that can go over any shirt button-ups and ties. And of course I dress him up with kisses and positive compliments of how fuckingly sexy he looks.
Trying to but its not working. Jamie Hince's style is what I like. He and Kate Moss always look good out and about. Can't seem to post a pic though. I like edgy, trendy and masculine. My hubby dresses like that and he looks great all of the time. He wears dark jeans, boots, leather, tux jackets and then he will wear a slim vintage 60s suit, always dark colors, maybe some grey. But then I like him in his work out gear too so...But go far away in cargo shorts. Far Far away.

These kind of items are around at a lot of the local folk festivals I go to. I especially like the Baja hoodie - those things are so comfortable and, not suprisingly, I love the material and colours.

I know this is a thread about clothes but I love dreadlocks and a hairstyle can really complete a look I suppose. Not everyone can pull them off but on some men they look really good.

(Especially on Lenny, he's such a beautiful, beautiful man)

Milly, although this is totally at the opposite from what I would wear myself, I like your sense of style. I saw your pictures in the 'Architecture, Interior Design and Style' thread too, and thought the same. All you showed is aesthetically pleasing and stylish, just really not my style.

Sadly for you, not a lot of guys wear a style like this though. Then again, I often see guys in the city I live in that dress in a modern hippie/grunge/hipster style with loose brown/green clothes and funky accessories. Things similar to this (which might be a more 'realistic' or 'modern' version of what you're seeking) :

Nicely said Buz. I agree with all your advices, though I don't wear hats/caps and I'm really not into the cowboy look (not popular where I live).

For jeans, I don't buy specific brands, but there's a place where I shop in my city that sells stylish ones for a very cheap price. Most are around $40 or so and look perfectly fine with a modern style (washed off, stylish pockets, cool colors, etc). I prefer these to the 'bland' ones they sell at Wal-Mart. I also don't understand people who invest $200+ for a pair of jeans.

I agree with your suits advices too, but as I've said I'm pretty business casual as I really don't need to 'represent' myself or the company I work for. In a way, I'm very glad to have a career such as mine, since I can dress nicely without having any specific dress code. Lucky me.

Crocks? Shit those are ugly... I would never wear these even if I was forced to. I also dislike cargo pants, khakis, polo shirts, sandals, etc. Those are too 'light/soft' for me, and not enough serious/badass... but that's just me. I also generally prefer darker shades than bright colors.

To be frank, almost 75% of the time I simply wear a fitted t-shirt with jeans. I wear something more stylish and with long sleeves if I go out or when it's cold during the winter, but I think a nice t-shirt with jeans looks very good and masculine (it's even quite stylish if you have a fit physique). I buy ribbed t-shirts in many different plain colors : white, black, dark gray, dark red, dark blue, green, brown, etc. Ribbed tees look a bit more expensive/fancy/masculine and also fit my body nicely as they're a bit heavier. The ones I buy are also tailored in a V shape to avoid thighness around the upper torso and/or loose material around the belly. I also own different graphic tees.

(This is not the brand I buy, just to show the texture.)

Most of the time I look like this :
(Some of those seem a bit too tight though. Generally when I 'feel' any tighness, I consider it too tight. But I like to show some shapes.)

I also own a couple of long sleeve tees that I wear when it's a bit colder, striped/motif sweaters, plenty of shirts, and hoodies :
(The first picture represents the perfect level of tighness in my opinion.)

Okay, I'm done now and will let the ladies express their preferences. I've used the terms 'casual' and 'masculine' quite enough already.
Okay, I'm back for more. Sorry, I can't help it.

Maybe I should post all of this in the Gentlemen's Club. Anyways...

My winter leather jacket looks a bit like this (it actually looks better). It has this cool aviator style with brushed leather (this one isn't brushed), vintage zippers and a cream knit collar (not fur). I love the brushed leather, as shiny leather often looks as if you're wearing a black garbage bag. It also has a detachable lining which also removes the collar, so that I can wear it during fall too. I love the look of the vintage aviator style, which appears casual/active and fancy/expensive at the same time. Without the collar it also looks a bit more casual/badass, and sometimes I wear it with a hoodie.

I also have a warmer regular black coat that I wear when I stay outdoor for a longer period of time (activities, sports, etc).

(The second picture shows the brushed texture, the third one shows the texture of the knit collar).

I don't exactly have a preference on what guys wear. All guys like to dress differently and have different tastes just like women do. There isn't really one particular style that I prefer over another, some guys rock the formal suit look, some have the jeans and flannel look. One thing I do like is when a guy wears a plain colored shirt or band tee with a fitted pair of jeans. I hate skinny jeans on guys, but baggy pants are just as bad.

If I had to pick a certain type of dress that I like on guys then I suppose it would look something something like these pictures:

I find this look incredibly attractive. I like work boots with the outfit.

I like denim and button up shirts.

I like fair isle and big chunky sweaters on guys.

I love band t shirts. I don't like when guys wear shirts advertising a brand name like Ed Hardy or Hollister or Abercrombie and Fitch.

I like baseball caps and beanies too. I just kind of like hats I guess.

I don't have a problem with V necks as long as they aren't too deep of a V

Why not just post a picture of your jacket instead of going through all this trouble. I'm sure the ladies, and dudealicious...would like to see this look on you, not some imitation from the internet.

Actually, taking a picture of me would have been more trouble than posting this. I stumbled across this picture by chance, and only had to Google 'brushed leather' and 'cream ribbed knit' for the textures.

Plus, I don't want Dudealicious to stalk me. He could have noticed clues in the background that hinted at my location... 69 Blueball Ave, Linwood, PA.

I really don't want a freak looking like Colin Farrell throwing his 'SNAP SISTER!' at me in real life. That would be quite a traumatic experience for me. I mean, no one can handle laughing that much, can they?
I have certain ways I want men to dress to be sexy for me. Button fly jeans, sexy little underwear, easily unbuttoned shirt

Good for you then. Not many men feature this style where I live...
I like this look. Very simple/casual...not at all hard to pull off. It's really nothing to try to pull off...and it's practical.

I hate skinny/baggy jeans as well...to whomever it was above that said that.

Also, speaking of practicality, I'm a very outdoorsy type, so I love when a guy looks great in hiking gear. Very rugged/sexy to me:

I'm not sure. The cigarettes aren't attractive to me, but for photography's sake they look kinda cool smile
It's a shame Tom Brady doesn't have enough balls to stand up to his wife when she snaps her fingers for him to sport a new hair style or wear a different sweater.

Because every guy should have a Hello Kitty t-shirt to express himself in.
Going out...

Staying in...
Skinny jeans and v necks are kinda metro.

I like when guys wear jeans and a button down untucked, love a leather jacket, and boots are sexy! Suits and a tie are for work or special things, I'm more casual and like my man to be as well.

I love when a man wears classy shoes and grooms himself well.
Ok. This is disturbing. For real.

there is some much awesomeness in this picture one must laugh... a lot.
Just spotted this thread and couldn't resist throwing in my 2 cents - and a few pics!

Since I'm from a perpetually sunny location, shorts are pretty common around here. I really dig this just-above-the-knee length. Any shorter and it'd look like kid pants. If it cuts at/below the knee, it looks a bit sloppy.

Some guys can pull off brighter colours like pink (above) and turquoise. Those are pretty daring colours, even for me. But the same cut in navy blue and khaki can work on most, I think.

Note the white cotton button-down tees on the above two. I don't think you can ever go too wrong in those. It's casual, pretty stylish and great for warm weather. And I personally do not advocate those shorts in funky prints or plaid. I love the preppy cut but crazy patterns are just a bit much for me.

I'm still a student so I don't have too much of an opinion about office wear. But coming from a college that stipulates formal wear as the mandatory dress code, I can safely say I don't dig skinny ties! For me, either you wear a normal one or your just don't wear a tie. Am also not a fan of pinstriped pants or shirts. (And a huge N-O to both together!) Solid pastels are okay but I really dig dark, rich colours like maroon, navy blue and forest green on shirts. The guys generally look good in those :-)
I like the jacket or dress shirt with worn/comfy jeans. (Tie optional - I like both if it isn't too fat of a tie.)
[

Or vest: with or without jacket, tie or dress shirt, buttoned or unbuttoned.

(As far as crew vs. v-neck, I know guys are funny about that, but I like BOTH & kinda like V-necks on guys personally.)

If this provoked such a strong reaction in you simply by being a little drunk, I would strongly advise that you avoid the Deal Breakers thread when being high on LSD.

Haha, seriously I wondered what really disturbed you all that much. Probably the bowtie?

It's definitely not my style personally, but I could totally see guys in my city dressed like this. Like if a guy would walk next to me on the street dressed like this, I'd just go "whatever" rather than "oh my god". Somehow I suspect that this kind of 'artistic fashion' is not all that frequent in your city, but here it's almost the dominant trend, especially in some specific areas.

These are some other people from my city:

I'm not quite sure what inspired this trend specifically, but it's quite popular since the last 5 years or so. Maybe the American Apparel style that was taken too seriously by some, combined with pot abuse and a large artistic community. I always disliked the American Apparel style by the way, especially for guys. For girls it's not as bad if they want to add some unconventional elements to their clothing, as long as it's not overdone and still looks feminine/sexy.

Somehow, it's almost as if everybody wants to desperately stand out and be noticed:

"Pfff, you've got washed off jeans and a fitted tee? Look at my funky knit sweater!"

"Pfff, you've got a funky knit sweater? Look at my purple hat and my yellow shoes!"

"Pfff, you've got a purple hat and yellow shoes? Bang! Look at my fucking bowtie dude!"

Funny thing is, sometimes I end up standing out the most for not wanting to stand out (if you know what I mean). Not everybody in my city has this style obviously, but I'd dare to say that it's actually more popular in some artistic neighborhoods than what I wear myself (what I presented in this thread before).

I swear, I almost feel like an alien at times.

It's funny that you mention it, I thought asking about these 'crazy patterns' myself a few days ago. I've always found these ugly, but last weekend at the grocery store I noticed that just about every guy had these:

Is it just me that's overly serious, or do these look ugly and completely unoriginal? Fuck, I'm still wearing my full-length jeans right now; I even prefer full pants in the summer, unless it's really hot outside. Somehow, I just dislike this 'yippee I'm on vacations' feeling; there's always something serious on my mind, and I like it that way. I'm at the office 5 days a week anyway, and when I get home I just put on my gym clothes and spend the rest of the evening half-naked.

I went to buy clothes a few weeks ago, but totally forgot to buy shorts. Maybe it was a semi-intentional oversight from my part though.

I definitely prefer jeans shorts like these:

Fuck, a badass vigilante like me can't be seen wearing those weird ugly shorts.

Skinny ties are not that bad if worn for a semi-casual style:

I don't really wear that style, but I actually thought about buying a black skinny tie for special occasions. They look good when untied a little to achieve this rebel 'I hate being dressed too stylishly but I had to wear a fucking tie' look.

I know what you mean though, sometimes they just look off and nerdy, like these:

I also know what you mean for pinstriped shirts/pants. Sometimes they do look overly formal. They can either appear unoriginal or pretentious, depending on the color/style and the situation. The contrast between the two colors is an important factor. I don't like these:

Sometimes they can look good though. I personally have a few stripped shirts similar to these. The last one is a bit stylish/pretentious, but that's mostly because of the collar; the color still looks good to me, especially with the pants (the guy needs a belt though):

None of the the other ones you posted raise any alarm bells. I get the funky/artsy, boho, hipster, Macklemore 'Thrift Shop' stylings. I like some of those styles and style-influences. And yes, I see it in my city too. But that guy... with the ill-fitting pea soup cable-knit cardigan, giant velvet bow-tie and the hair in that tilting top knot bun... No, no... it's just all so wrong. But the sweater is *really* wrong.

Not to mention that when you pan out... he's wearing jeans that look like he stole them from his girlfriend's closet. It's not just that it's skinny jeans on a guy, it's that they're bad skinny jeans - that result in an unfortunate squashy-butt.

I was relieved to see that the pea soup sweater is a one-of from 1950's Latvia. Phew. I probably won't be seeing it in my city anytime soon.

I've told guys before that their sister/girlfriend wanted her jeans back.

LMFAO!
Oh fuck, this might be the most hilarious last 24 hours I experienced in the last few years!

Haha, first, just the way you described this guy in your last message totally had me laughing out loud. It almost seemed like you were personally offended by this guy's attire: "No! No! This is an offense to the entire world of fashion! How dare he!?"

I totally imagine your reaction when you found out that his pants were just as bad as the rest, haha. I must admit, he really isn't helping himself there.

Still, I thought arguing that he wasn't all that much more distasteful than some other people who share this style (I'll actually do this in a later post). But then, this '1950's Latvia one-of' that you mentioned got me curious and I did a reverse image search on Google.

Holy shit, did I laugh there! This company ships all those extremely appalling vintage clothes from Latvia, and this exact same guy is the model for all of them. Fuck, this pea soup cardigan actually looks good compared to some other garments there.

Funniest thing of all... the name of the company? Beta Menswear! Haha! Dammit, I can't even imagine a worse name for a men's clothing company. Even Camelshit Apparel or Fucktard Fashion Inc. sound better. Crap, I even think that this model is the owner of the company. If you look at the side column on the website, they mention 'Shop Owner: Beta' with a picture of him. Haha!

Look it up: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/BetaMenswear?ref=l2-shopheader-name

And here's a sample of his marvelous collection, all from post-apocalyptic Latvia:

I especially like his expressions here, ranging from "Hmph, I have the feeling I'll be telling this to a psychotherapist very soon" to "This fucking photographer better not laugh at me".

Oh my god, I did this quick research yesterday evening just before going to bed, and couldn't stop laughing. Then I looked back at it today, and I'm still laughing as much.

Seriously DD, I'm not sure if you were just lucky to figure out how much crappy this was or really have an eye for it, but... congratulations, I guess. Even funnier, this guy was hiding in this thread for like 6+ months, trying to fit in with the rest, before you finally exposed him. Haha!

I swear, if you ever become mean or disrespectful with me, I'll have this entire collection cargo-shipped from Latvia to your city and have it delivered freely to guys your age. I'm warning you there...

As I've said though, I don't have much time right now, but I'd still argue that the 'pea soup cardigan' photoshoot isn't worse than some other people sharing a similar style. I actually Googled pictures with the term 'hipster' yesterday, and he showed up in the first few pictures (that's probably how I found him the first time). Certainly not the most awesome hipster/boho ever, but probably not the worst either (I downloaded some pictures that I'll post later, maybe this weekend).

Anyway, this was totally worthy of my Photoshop expertise and inspired a little parody. I must warn you though, this most certainly isn't an appropriate bedtime story for you, it might cause you nightmares. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!

Ok, Latvia Games is definitely more disturbing than the sweater. Perfect parody though.

See, that's the thing about 'vintage' - just because it's old, doesn't mean it's automatically cool again. There's bad fashion choices in every style. Not that these sweaters were probably ever cool, even in 1950's Latvia. Plus they are selling them for $49 each, which is probably double (or triple) what they originally retailed for. At least six months later and the pea-soup cardigan is still available - it's probably still stuffed in a garbage bag in someone's basement. The expression on the 'male model' says it all, really. That's the kind of gig where you insist on them shooting you from the neck-downward only.
Okay, I'm back for something a little more serious. I declare the case of 'Mr. Pea Soup Sweater' open. Court in session.

Seriously, this is actually an interesting debate to have: the whole subjectivity of fashion, aesthetics and beauty. This is especially relevant in our modern culture, with all those 'back to vintage' trends which essentially bring back to prominence styles/articles that were considered unstylish and outdated just a short while prior. This is also interesting in the case of all those counter-culture subcultures, where 'being uncool' is considered 'cool' (eg. punk, grunge, hipster, etc.).

First, a few examples of different modern styles that I found while browsing the web. I'm not sure how these styles should be labeled exactly, but you definitely can see the current hipster, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters influence in them.

As I've mentioned before, I really don't like this style for myself, yet I somehow perceive fashion as a way to express one's personality, so I'm overall rather tolerant when I see others dressed differently. I can even appreciate some of it, where I'd go: "I really wouldn't wear this myself, but this actually quite fucking stylish and cool".

These examples all stand on the fragile line between stylish/unstylish to me however, much similar to Mr. Pea Soup's apparel. I really didn't look hard for these, and could totally see people in my city dressed like this:

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the attires above really are unsightly to me:

1- Hmm, I get the thrift shop style/mentality, but it doesn't mean that literally buying the ugliest coat in a thrift shop will make you look 'cool' or 'stylish'. Congratulations, I've seen bums that actually had more style.
2- Well, hello there, colorblind smurfette. I know looking 'off' can sometimes look cool, but this is simply 'off-putting' to me.
3- What are you trying to accomplish here? You're already wearing a blue coat, so why add an ugly carpet over it? And the baseball cap just adds to your 'what the fuck' ambiguous style.
4- Congratulations on looking so constipated. With a stick up your ass, you'd totally look like a Grape Popsicle. Oh wait, you do have a stick up your ass.
5- Pleased to meet you, cotton candy girl. You're actually quite cute, but I guess Mr. Grape Popsicle might be more your style.
6- I get the fashionable 'Parisian' look (albeit not my style), but this jacket just looks plain silly to me. Reminds me of a prudish female secretary from the late 80s.

Really, these are all examples of 'uncool is cool' taken too far. It's almost as if these days, no 'rules' exist anymore to define what's stylish and what's not. Clothes too loose or too tight? Hey that's fun! Colors that don't match? Wow, such personality! Silly beards and accessories? So cool! Clothes from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s? None of these are outdated anymore, hell you can even combine them all!

So yeah, Mr. Pea Soup style is ugly, but he's far from being a rarity nowadays.

I definitely appreciate when style allows you to express your own individuality, but I also enjoy when it possibly can show your overall sense of social/fashion awareness. Plus, aesthetics is something universal in most instances: there are colors that match and some that don't, no matter the style, trend or era. Same for shapes and fits.

Another funny thing is, trying to be 'unconventional' can actually become quite 'conventional' when everybody dresses the same. Like that 'mountain man' style, with a thick beard and all; yeah, the first guy who did this was quite 'original', but the thousands who followed... not so much. Or Kurt Cobain who established the whole 'grunge style' by not giving a fuck about how he was dressed, and the million young teenagers who followed his lead. So many people 'try too hard' at not 'trying too hard' and end up having no personality whatsoever despite their obvious efforts to look cool and trendy. Plus, some of them just look plain silly.

Also, as much as I like when your outside appearance represents who you are, I just equally disdain when people solely rely on their style to define themselves. Thinking you're anti-conformist just because you have combat boots, or thinking you're artistic because you wear a scarf is so fucking ridiculous to me. In fact, a lot of these counter-culture subcultures turn out to be perfect examples of 'group mentality'. So many people just follow the herd without asking any questions. I agree with some of the ethics behind the punk and hipster lifestyles, but to define myself as a 'punk' or 'hipster' is kinda lame to me. I'm a human being that likes to reflect about things, I really don't need any conformist label.

There, one more discussion that lead me to ranting about random stuff. I'd like to hear others' opinions about this though.

Now I need my cup of herbal tea.
Whatever he feels more confident/comfortable wearing (obviously still caring about his appearance). I'm a sucker for good footwear.
Love this look
