I got my haircut for the firs time since the pandemic. My hair is very easy to cut and there isn't much of it, so I would usually give a modest tip in cash.

I got my haircut at a major franchise by a female hairstylist , not a traditional (male) barber.

However, due to social distancing, I paid with a debit card. A screen lit up for a default tip of $3 on a $20 haircut.

When growing up, I don't remember dad mentioning how much he tipped the barber. The barber charged X and was paid X.

However, if my mom or sister "got their hair done" I'm sure they tipped the (female) stylist.

Is this a gender thing? A stylist/barber thing?

I just had my first haircut, at a barbers, in 4 months due to the lockdown. I went to the same one I have used for many years. He always has a jar of lollipops for the kids but I always take one and give him that as a gratuity. Some say I squeak when I walk but I have never heard it.

My S/O has cut mine for years as she is a former hair stylist, and yes I "tip" her but she demands the whole thing. Prior to that, no, I never tipped a barber. I went to a shop in a mall once for a haircut while the ex shopped and did tip, VERY well, but it was a female with big boobs that made sure my ears were warm while she washed my hair.

For a haircut, I always tip if it’s provided as an option. I’ll probably do something like 10% but it depends on the situation. I’ve always viewed tipping as an investment into the next visit (be it a restaurant, bar, etc) and considering many of the places I frequent keep records of haircuts so they can give you the same thing next time, it only makes sense to ensure they have a preferable memory of me.

I can’t think of a good tagline so this will have to do. Suggest a better one for me?

I tend to just "round up" the cost of the cut. So if it costs, say, £8, I would just give £10. If it cost £12, I would give £15.

Haven't been for a haircut this year, actually (did it myself the last time).

Always, usually about 15%. I think tipping for haircuts is pretty standard practice in the US, as at restaurants.

Haven't had a haircut since I retired about 5 years ago, but I always tipped when i was still working and getting regular haircuts. Depending on who cut my hair it was either 15 or 20%.

Tipping is not a big thing in Australia. I will sometimes tell them to keep the change.

Have not had a hair cut in about 15 years, have shaved my head since then (too cheap to get a hair cut), was in military no big deal. Since I retired, I have grown a beard and had an interview a few weeks ago, needed to get the beard trimmed, cost me 15.00 and gave a 7.00 tip, almost 50%. I am a firm believer in tipping, those folks, barbers, servers, delivery drivers are making WAY below minimum wage so they need the extra just to survive.

As redcaramel said, tipping isn't a big thing in Aust as pay rates are pretty good. I've been going to the same hairdresser for 4 years and always round up a few dollars. Typical cut is $22 so toss the change of $25 into the tips jar which they share.

Yes, I used to tip my hairstylist earlier, he's my hairstylist from last 8 years so he's friend now so not doing it anymore.

I usually wear my hair long, sometimes in a ponytail and let my wife trim the ends. However, last year I decided to get a professional cut, trimmed an unbelievable 11" which I donated to Locks of Love. I tipped the stylist $10 for the hard work. Before COVID-19 I went about once a month to keep the same cut and I still tip generously.

There are times she is kneeling out of obedience, reverence and respect. Those are the times it is okay to stand above her. But when she is kneeling because the weight of the world is just too heavy to bear … that is when You should be kneeling beside her.

Yes, always. She's a great stylist and conversationalist so wtf, tipping encourages continuance. On her birthday, the tip is equivalent to a regular visit. I love her.

Yes, I always give a tip. They are providing a service and giving you 100% of their attention.

Yes I do. And very well I might add. These people are providing a service and they don't make a whole lot of money. You will never see a rich barber!

I go to one of the "walk-in" places, and depending on the time of day, pay $10-12. I give a $2 tip unless they really mess it up.

I used to, depending on how much they had to cut. If I am getting it cut and styled I do tip well if they do a good job. I have long straight hair and other than when a beautician friend cut my hair, I have found that most places see hair my length and they want to whack it all off. Last place I went, I asked for just an inch to be but off. My hair was about to my waist band, when I walked out it was just to my shoulders. I did NOT tip.

For the last 8 years or so, I just pull it forward and cut it myself. Have the old man even it out if I am a little off.
