Left home at 18 to go to university. Never really went back except as a visitor. My wife and I were engaged before I graduated, at which point I moved in to her parents house until the time came 2 years later when we bought our own home - that was 43 years ago.

When I was young I moved into the basement because I got to have a whole lot more room... I enjoyed it through my teen years and up until I moved out of my parents house... Would I ever move back? Not in a million years, I would probably live in my car before I moved back in... Not for a lack of love of my parents, but when your in their house, its like your a kid all over again and I dont need a curfew at 49...lol

Once I moved out (at 23) I pretty much stayed out except for weekend and holidays visits, when I crashed in my old room, not the basement. Lived with them for part of a summer after surgery because I was still single at that point so didn't have anyone to watch over/take care of me and gf couldn't really move in with me for it. But I've never been a "basement dweller" save for the odd time when I slept down there because it was the coolest part of the house before we got a/c.
