Writers: uncommon elements in your stories?

Are there certain elements that you like to include in your stories, because you find them lacking in most erotica? And why?

I'll go first:

Pubic hair!

I think too much porn and erotica features shaved pubic regions. I get it - you can see all the naughty bits when the bush is cleared away, but there's just something about pubic hair for me. I think it's more erotic and less pornographic when there's a natural-looking pubic region. Hard-core porn aside, think of the difference between erotic international and independent movies vs. the soft-core "Skinamax" type stuff -- characters connecting sensually rather than just boning to get the viewer off. I think the eroticism of viewing pubes makes the story more raw and real and natural and believable, the participants sharing their authentic spontaneous selves rather than doing a performance. I may be wrong, but I think women who shave their nether regions are way over-represented, that most of us just trim up a bit of the unsightliness but leave the rest.

So, I include pubic hair in most of my stories. I mean, if that hunky guy I met on the video calls this past month ever did come to my office and ravage me on the conference room table (hey, don't steal my idea!), I'd want him to be the kind of guy who was turned on by knowing I was reacting to him and only him, rather than always keeping myself "prepared" for any dude to come have a peek inside.

OMG, I ranted too much. I know I may be in the minority about this, but it's my thing. What's yours?

I agree with you completely about pubic hair. I think there's only one character in my stories who shaved, and that was a mildly important part of the story.

For me, I probably have a much greater proportion of black women as main characters in my stories than in the general American population. (Or in my romantic history.) I realized this early on as I was writing one such story and made it part of the story and, indeed, hinted at the reason in the title. Since then I've continued the trend and make no apologies for it.
Shaved pussies make for great porn. But in real life, I love pubic hair: it's moist, it's fragrant, it's soft, it's tasty - and it means that reaching the pussy-lips, whether with tongue or cock, is a lovely mini-adventure, a journey of exploration.

Snow White and the Seven Dildos (RR) - "Fuck. It's perfect.... honestly genius and so fucking well executed." (VioletVixen)

Metamorphoses (RR) - "so imaginative and entertaining" (saucymh)

And There Came Two Angels to Sodom - "What a deliciously worded story! So juicy, so raunchy" (el_henke)

Fuck-Talk (with VioletVixen) - "Jeez. I feel rendered wordless by how much clever fucking fun this is" (Jaymal)

I don't really write that way. I tend to put in whatever turns me on and, more importantly, fits the story and characters. So I don't worry too much about what's common or not. There's stuff that's common in erotica (like BDSM) that isn't really my thing so I rarely use it unless I have a story idea that involves it. So looking at the OP's example, I have a lot of pubic hair because I prefer "natural", not because of whether or not others have it, but if the bare look fits the character or situation, bare they are.
tentacles. in every story. sometimes really well hidden, but they're in there...

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

That's interesting, Sprite. Whenever I read one of your offerings in the future, I will think of it as a challenge, an entirely new genre: Lush's very own erotic Where's Wally series.

Oh, I don't try to put stuff in because it's uncommon... like you. I write about what turns me on too. Like you, BDSM isn't my thing either (except I do have a pair of stories, yet to be edited/published here on Lush, where the couple, on separate occasions, do allow "light restraint" for erotic pleasure). I have pubic hair in my stories because it's natural, not because it's uncommon. I just noticed that it's uncommon. Thanks for your input!

Agreed! And from a female perspective, providing the journey and being explored rather than making it too easy...

Hey, I've written FIVE tentacle stories: 3 erotic, 2 horror!

I don't know how uncommon this is, but most of my erotica is in the context of a monogamous, mutually fulfilling relationship.

Sounds like we were made for each other... [winks]

Not sure if this is uncommon, but i tend to be dialogue heavy. Probably due to mainly watching movies and tv more so than reading novels for the last few years.

Other than that, I like to highlight the slapping of bodies during sex. In my porn viewing and personal sex life, I love to hear women's butts and legs clapping during, so most of my stories include such.

My last published story: Good For Nothing

I enjoy trying invoke all the senses in my writing. In particular, smell is a much under-rated erogenous sense, in my opinion.

Fairly uncommon, yes. But I guess many of mine too are "...in the context of a monogamous, mutually fulfilling relationship." If by that we mean, even if the partners aren't spouses, there is no indication of cheating or "one night stand" stuff. Thanks!

Interesting... I don't watch much porn, but when I have, it kills me when they just come together and start doing it without saying anything. Honestly, it's kind of boring to just watch intercourse with nothing but "ohh", "aaahhh", "mmmm". I saw one recently where a girl was naked doing fingerpainting on a canvas on an easel and the guy came up and they started fingerpainting each other a few strokes then just got to boffing. Not a single word. Dialog would have been so fun in that one!
okay, end of rant sorry. But dialog! Good!

Nice! I incorporate grunting, and a bit of squishing... I need to read some of your stories to experience some slapping sounds! hee hee

Good one. My reading queue is getting large... I promise to pick out some of yours, but in the meantime... the smell of sex? Or the smell of the partner (perfume/cologne/fresh-clean)? Or the smell of something in the surroundings like in a cafe, outdoors, etc.?

Uncertainty. Inner conflict. People at the edge of their comfort zones. Women finding strength and pleasure in self-abandonment, depravity.

The smell of the sex itself, I suppose: the sharp scent of fresh semen or vaginal juices, of course, but also the sweaty, messy smells of two horny people getting down to business. Mmmm ;)

I like to use a lot of real locations, including some that have vanished since the time period of the story. A few stories don't have specific locations, but it often makes it seem more plausible if it is happening in a particular place.

Sure.

One thing I try to include is from my own experiences. That is at least trying to capture the sounds of making love. Just the sounds that 2 bodies can make I find incredibly arousing, and I often try to capture that. Plus it lets me sometimes have fun with an onomatopoeia like "schlurp".

And another, the "messy aftermath". After using rubbers for months when my wife and I first got intimate, she admitted it was a surprise to her when she got on the pill and we dumped them just how messy everything could be. So I also include that. Not from any kind of "creampie fetish", but simply in recognition that sex can be messy, and things can... leak.

Both of them for me are simply trying to more accurately describe such acts. And something I include in almost any story I write, but read almost nowhere else unless it is part of a fetish.

Nice! I never have really done that... I tend to think "only a very few would appreciate details about my suburb or train route", but, then again, not everyone fantasizes about the people with the various features I describe either... so you have a point about the "plausibility". Thanks for your contibution!

I sure do breathing and grunting a lot, but it sounds like I need to read your stories for some schlurpiness!

Messy aftermath is a good one! I know there's the standard "...then I came all over her [tits/face]..." stuff, but, that got old like in the 1990s. Apologies to everyone who likes a good ejaculation (I do too in its place), but leaking is more...real. I have some leakage at the end of in my lovely story A Walk in the Park, and things get quite authentically warm and gooey at the climax (pun intended!) of Morning Wood!

I'm lucky I guess in that I have a lot to choose from in New York City and New Jersey. I've tried to do one in Los Angeles, but I haven't been there in years and I have to do some research.

Also, I'm 65 now so I have memories of how those places looked years ago if I want to go back in time.

Pubic hair is a good one! I agree that porn needs more pubic hair. My nerdy girl has natural pubes. I have to wait for other stories to clear the home page, but in one of my next ones, I get my hands on a glorious bush.

As for my "uncommon elements"... I'd say maybe a character's interesting features or quirks. Like my nerdy girl has surprisingly nice tutties even though she's not much to look at in general, and she has a quirky thing about condoms you'll find out in later episodes. Too often characters are described as model perfect in erotica and porn (look at "nerds" in porn and they're all just hotties with glasses - not convincing), but mine sometimes are short-haired mature women, guys who cum too fast, successful people who get fired for doing stupid stuff, characters who deal with morning breath, things like that.

While playing pool, never underestimate the importance of The Break! My friend Alicia came over for a friendly game, and her killer break turned me on so much I just had to take her right there on the pool table!

In this I fully agree. It is bad enough seeing it in porn. In almost 40 years, I have never once "pulled out" and done something like that. It is just not... natural. The last thing I am thinking about at that time is pulling up and crawling up her body and doing something like that.

Now belly if you are using "spray and pray" birth control is one thing, but stopping towards the culmination and doing it? Uhhh, no thank you.
