Do you prefer to write in the mornings? Evenings? Whenever?
I write much better in the morning. So naturally I write in the evening.

Do you need to feel inspired to write, or are you more disciplined, writing so much every day (or week or whatever).
I think you need to want to write a story. But I write every day, even if it's only little message to myself; the most elaborate, plot-driven shopping lists in history. I often don't write for long periods. Sometimes only for a few minutes at a time. But I can write a thousand words in 15 minutes or a hundred in a day. It depends.

Do you prefer to work in solitude, or around other people (e.g. in a coffee shop)?
I prefer solitude over someone leaning over my shoulder and telling me I've spelled masturbation wrongly. Again.

Do you like music playing, or total silence?
I like silence. I like music too. It doesn't matter.

Do you have any particular writing rituals that help to get you in the right mood/mindset?

No, but I might have been inspired to write by a story I've read or an idea I had. I get ideas, even for descriptions, while cycling which is hazardous when I have to rush home before I forget it. Sometimes I read poetry and that always makes me love words again.

Do you have a specific place you like to write in.
No. I write anywhere. I've written in toilet cubicles before (tbf that was only to update my phone number)

Do you prefer to write by pen and paper, word processor, typewriter, chisel and stone tablet?
I write bits with pen and paper (although I can never read what I've written and invariably I end up practicing handwriting styles) and I write lots of things (poems, whatever, not stories for here) on a typewriter. Mostly I use an app called iA Writer or Google Docs – I can write on my phone with those.
I usually have a thought of where I want to take a story. It's obvious in my writings, that I prefer humor or the dark side. I'm not a discipline writer with a skillset, but I like to use descriptions in my stories. I prefer solitude with a silence of my surroundings, usually with a cup of coffee and a peanut butter sandwich. Being a small bookshop owner, I meet people everyday and I watch how people react to titles in my shop. Being in a small town, I know just about everyone and even some of the things that go on in our village. A couple of my stories, mostly all fiction, have come from old wives tales.
I can't be bothered with it,
In the world's harsh wear and tear many a very sincere attachment is slowly obliterated.

Do you prefer to write in the mornings? Evenings? Whenever?
I write at any time as long as I'm drunk. Wait, is it write sober, edit drunk, or the other way around? I always get those mixed up.

Do you need to feel inspired to write, or are you more disciplined, writing so much every day (or week or whatever).
I'm not disciplined, so I need to be inspired to write a story, but I write something every day. I even put adverbs in my shopping lists.

Do you prefer to work in solitude, or around other people (e.g. in a coffee shop)?
I'd prefer solitude, but I don't get it much.

Do you like music playing, or total silence?
I like silence, except when I near the end of writing something, I'll play music incessantly.

I use pen and Google Docs mostly. I don't write linearly so I can write one bit of a story on a piece of paper and one bit on a laptop. These different bits of a story have a habit of coming together in the middle of the night in my head and having a nice little chat, but by morning they aren't speaking to each other any more.

I know so many writers that can do this, write down bits and eventully weave them all together, whether they are on speaking terms or not. I am really envious. I am a plodder, start at the beginning, and write til I get to the end.

And then rewrite 10,000 times.

I sort of do it. I'll have bits of story floating around in my head but I usually don't write anything down until it starts to come together. And sometimes bit A that I thought went with story B actually ends up in story C.
There is little consistency in my writing. Nothing that is habitual. Except that I write everything on my MacBook Pro. And I write everything in this submission panel, or the one on the blue site. That has served me well.

I have never set goals for myself like writing 500 words a day, or in a sitting. I've never even tried anything like that. I might perhaps set a goal such as "I will enter this contest" and then achieve that goal. Sometimes I will get such an entry done in the first few days. Other times it might be right at the deadline. As I did today. I entered the current contest with about a day and a half to spare, if I get the necessary 10 votes.

It has never been a habit of mine to create a plan, or a blueprint, and an outline, of something I intend to write. More often than not I simply see a picture, or hear a tune, or hear a felicitous phrase from a friend and start writing. All at once, or over a period of time. No consistency whatsoever.

All I really know is that I have to write and I do it a lot. I am prolific. Over 500 pieces here on red. Over 400 on blue. Whatever I do seems to be working for me. I am pleased.

It's only because I sort of know what will happen and I'm guilty of thinking in scenes. You'd be able to see that in anything I wrote; a lot of separate bits with a splotch of grout between them to hide the join.

I still rewrite 10,000 times too.
I tend to write on my laptop in a coffee shop. For some reason that's often when inspiration hits me. I don't mind having people around, they don't distract me. However, I am careful about who can see my screen.

As far as rituals, I don't have any. I'm one of those undisciplined folks who writes as the mood strikes. I have written entire rough drafts in one sitting. Conversely, I have gone up to two weeks without a good idea. Go figure.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you Brilliant, and Extremely Talented Artists for allowing me to lurk about this forum discovering your unique approaches to writing.
As an aspiring writer(want to be), this insight is invaluable for me.

I pray that you remain forever inspired, and your fingers never loose their magic. Bless you all..._NE

Oh, do I know about the rewrites. I have a virtual closet full of unfinished articles in different stages, but once I am happy I've reached the end I go into edit mode. I can spend two days, tweaking this, correcting that, trying to get it perfect. I never succeed, but I eventually reach a point where I think I finally have it.

My husband can write three articles A DAY, every one sublime. Bastard, how does he do it?

As for the OP: Whenever. Discipline, what's that? I work in the same room as my husband, but alone. I wear a headset most of the time and play music until I forget to load something else up. I don't do rituals. I write on my computer, if my computer was somewhere else I'd write there. I write to suit the environment I'm writing for, plain text, html, markdown, but always in a text editor, never in a word processor.

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

The Night They Tried to Close RUMPLATIONS Bar (with JamesLlewellyn)

I write any time of the day when inspiration strikes.
I write in my diary a couple times a week, as laid out in a semiautobiographical piece I posted on the blue site.
I can write in solitude and around other people. Right now, my daughter is napping and I'm in her bedroom right now.
I think some background noise can assist in the creative writing process.

Usually late at night on scratch paper. Using a pencil with an eraser. It works for me until I put it on the computer, Then most of the time hit delete.
I not really think about writing things all the time.
Have more important things happening mostly, but I have mood to express things I feel often,
und sometime have inspiration during the day und write them down.
Sometime when I'm almost in dream state, thinking about my day und other things,
I suddenly have this WOW moment und awaken quickly to write it down.
I've kept a pad und pencil by my bed since I was much younger because of this.
I'm not fully awaken und suddenly find myself sitting up writing on my pad, und I can only laugh at myself...smiles

Most times they are only things I feel strongly enough that I want to write them as my own personal quote,
und not really interested in pursuing them as story.
Other times, I can picture my thoughts as a beginning und have ending, pondering the story, characters, settings,
if it has promise of new idea or concept, und if ist of productive importance.

I've written many things, stories, poems, even been printed once, und another time quoted, in Astronomy Journals,
but mostly I would never post the things I write on a Fantasy Sex Site.

If I have practice in writing such sexual things it would come from real life, und I have no interest in sharing those,
but I like fantasy things much, und maybe I write something else sometime for public viewing other than my dirty poem.
