Right, just to clarify...

We have established that for the Omnium Badge, you have to write stories in 57 of the 58 genres. The exception is Fantasies, this genre is optional.

The two poetry genres are also included. So a poem in each is needed!

Once you have achieved the Omnium Badge, you should never lose it. Even if/when new genres have been added and I guess by assumption, removed.

WW or one of the admin team are going to see if it is possible to include a story genre counter for both authors/readers to use.

Some LS-V1 features have been lost in getting LS-V2 up and running. These are going to be looked at and hopefully addressed.

I have one last question - Who is Gav? 😎

My latest story: "The Three Of Us" - Chapter 14

First chapter of a new novel: "The Three Of Us" - Chapter 1:- “Moving In”

Gav was the amazing guru of technology who fixed bugs and helped Keep the old Lush site up and running.

I have not written in Facesitting, but have in and still have the badge. I had been told once you have the badge, you keep it. So no clue why you and Brookell lost yours when Facesitting was added. I’m assuming y’all have talked to Admin about it.

Yes, Brookell raised that with whatever Admins at the time saying that Nicola had said once you got it you kept it but was told she wasn't getting it back without doing the Facesitting.. so now she has the Prolific Writer badge and doesn't write here any more.. which is a real shame. I did the facesitting story and got it back immediately.. there haven't been any categories added since then so I don't know if that glitch is fixed or not... though I doubt it.

I expect not too. But it's not a glitch per se. Like all badges that have numerical counters attached, it is goal-oriented and linked to a value.

Most badges aren't likely to get revoked after attainment, but they might under exceptional circumstances. E.g.

  • If you posted exactly 10K forum posts but then deleted one, you'd lose your Forum Myriad badge until you passed the threshold again.

  • If you co-authored 3 stories and then your writing partner deleted their account you'd lose your Collaborator badge.

  • If you had 100 friends and then one deleted or unfriended you, your Socialite badge would go.

  • If a bunch of categories were added and that took you below 80% of completed categories, you'd lose Prolific Writer status.

And so on. You get the picture. Omnium is probably no different and is based on programmatical logic. Gav made it different by making it an exception. Likewise it probably needs to be treated differently here (if it's not already).

The fact that some lost it and some kept it is baffling. Unless those that kept it did so under v1 code. Can't remember exactly when facesitting was added.

Anyway, the request is lodged. From a human perspective it feels like it should remain after being won. From a logic perspective, it depends how the badge is awarded as to how easy it is to code it to behave differently - and indeed if any other badges should behave likewise.

@Susie: I hope she gets it sorted and writes again. ❤️

@WW: I wonder if date one got Omnium matters. I got mine on an earlier date than Susie/Brookell. Another got around time as me and kept badge too.

Could well be.

Cumgirl still has her O badge, but has not written a Facesitting story. She earned hers fairly recently, I think.

Believe it or not, Cumgirl got her Omnium way back in 2021 shortly after mine

When I got the Omnium I was the 12th and James posted a list of the dirty dozen Omniums. At that time Brookall and Sholbin83 both already had their Omnium and have now both been relegated to a prolific writer. Boston babe was the 11th to get the badge but she seems to have left. So no rhyme or reason as to why some writers kept theirs and some lost them in the switchover to v2

It’d be nice I think if Brookall and Sholbin83 could be given theirs back

If it's possible to make it behave in a 'once attained, stays forever' manner, I'm sure that can be done.

I do hope this also gets sorted out, positively. 😊

However, I have one more suggestion. 🙄 This is, in the badge index, listed by the side of the Omnium Badge, it currently says... Has published a story across all our categories. Would it help if this was changed to, Has published a story/poem in all our genres ( fantasies exempt) or something similar?

My latest story: "The Three Of Us" - Chapter 14

First chapter of a new novel: "The Three Of Us" - Chapter 1:- “Moving In”

Yes, something similar 💅

I don't like the slash.. might be more pleasing to just be "has published across all our categories" and if you really want the info about the tag, have an * with you don't have to write about if you don't want to" or something at the bottom of the page.

"has published across all our categories +/- "

Has published across all our categories ( Fantasy optional).

Whelp, if poetry is necessary, I can stop wasting my time keeping track. Pity, because I was only a few story categories off, and had stories started for all of them.

Have you read my poetry?

Make it rhyme like a song or something. As long as you write something slightly more poetic than starting with “there once was a girl from Nantucket” and end with “fuck it” you should be ok

You don't have to be a stellar poet. Just make an effort. 🥰

I'm not going to put out something I'm not satisfied with just to fill a category. No poetry I write could meet my bare minimum standards — let alone something I'm proud to display. It usually takes me days to write a handful of rhyming couplet stanzas for a witchcraft spell in one of my fantasy stories, and those have zero meaning.

I was fooled all these years by the description saying "Published a story across all our categories". I assumed it meant story categories only. That really does need to be changed in some way to reflect the requirement for poetry to attain the badge.

Oooh yay an Omnium Badge thread, I went looking to make one cos I am on that quest too! But yay its already been made/started by someone else. I made a check list on a Google Doc to keep track, just like I have a Google Doc of my to-be-written erotica queue list of ideas, and basically go down the list of either and match them up. I made a list of all the categories and then I put check list boxes by them, and when I submit a story in the category I check it off once the story is approved. I know I have a few that are more than one, but that's a different list in a different doc of how many of each, or it may even be in a long hand notebook somewhere that I used to keep near my desk to jot down stray ideas that are easier to write long hand than type. But yeah! I am loving the journey to the Omnium Badge, I already know which categories will be hardest for me to write, So I am saving those for last probably.

Though I will give poetry a go to achieve my omnium badge (though it might just be a collection of words). 🙄

My personal opinion is that poetry is a completely different discipline from writing stories, and if this had been LushPoetry, I would never have been here. So I do sympathise with those who will not complete this badge because of its conclusion.

Suggestion to LS stakeholders, could there be a form of the omnium badge that doesn't include poetry?

Exactly. Poetry isn't remotely the same as prose. There's an actual prose category excluded because it gives people the heebie-jeebies, but a completely different form of writing is required. Makes no sense — especially in light of the unclear description it's had for years.

I calculate approximately a cold day in hell's chance of that changing, because there's not going to be an overwhelming outcry to exclude it like there was for IF when the category was reluctantly reinstated. It is what it is. Off the to-do list it goes.

In my humble opinion, the Omnium Badge is meant to stretch one’s writing chops. That means that some categories are going to be out of a writer’s comfort zone. I struggled with several of the categories, but gave them my best shot. I found creative ways to address the genres that weren't my thing. Readers were kind and encouraging.

My best personal example is the Water Sports category. NOT my thing! But I did a lil research and found a way to write a story that met the criteria.

I guess my point is, if you want the badge badly enough, you give every category your best effort. And if that genre isn't your forte, that's okay. You try and then you go back to writing what you truly feel is your niche.

Poetry doesn't have to be sophisticated or long to be of interest to readers. My best advice is to read some poetry by other Lush authors for inspiration.

Just my thoughts on a Monday morning. 😘

I haven't thought much of Omnium for a while now and figured I would be more a Prolific Guy as there's a category I doubt I could do convincingly well. If I do start attacking categories again, I will keep this in mind.

There were many categories that I wasn't sure I could do convincingly well. But I enjoyed the challenge. I feel like every attempt at something new or different helps me improve my writing.

I definitely think you should go for the Omnium badge! Let me know if you need someone to bounce ideas off of! 😎

As a writer working on omnium now, can I second the objection to watersports? I got around by making it a story within a story... The really was a fantasy. But watersports? Ewwww! I'm holding my nose and doing a very silly entry that I hope will be OK. I do find I only write hot stories in scenarios I find hot and you can usually tell when my heart isn't in it🙄

Just a thought here, since — according to some research — the main component of fluid produced by “squirting” is urine and sometimes may contain fluid from the female prostate (Skene's glands) you could take that approach smile
