You can get into a never ending battle of frustration when you start fighting these fly-by-night bulk copying operations. Most of the time the person running the site is unresponsive, because they know damn good and well they're stealing the content. The people hosting the place are typically unresponsive because they're usually in a country where nothing much can be done to them, and they're getting paid. The registrars don't care because they're only responsible for the domain name.

Even if you do get them taken down, they'll probably be back tomorrow at a different URL run by the same jackass.

You have to learn to accept that once you post something for free on the internet, you've more or less given away your right to control it. There's little to nothing you can do to stop people from copying it and putting it wherever they please.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be pissed off, or that the catharsis of trying to whack a mole or two and having some success isn't worth it, but keep the reality in the back of your mind so it doesn't become an obsession.

Very well said.
Lushstories is by far the best erotica site on the internet and that's probably why it's been targeted. I don't think it's possible to totally protect a site from someone stealing content. Look at the huge retail companies that constantly get hacked and think of how much money they spend on security. Even the Pentagon got hacked by the Chinese. I only blame those cheesy websites that stole stories here for being thieves.
ALWAYS go the legal route. Don't take it upon yourselves to do anything crazy.

For one thing, the Whois information is invariably made up.

Also, posting someone's picture probably isn't cool. It may be someone framing her (a long stretch I know!).

As has been explained on countless occasions, if YOU can read a web page, it can be scraped programmatically.

Gav could write a program to extract the HTML of any website in 5 minutes, no matter what measures have been put in place.

Even if we made lush a pay site, someone could join up for a month, and use that login for their program to gain entry.

Name me ONE web site where you can't view their HTML, please, humour me.

It certainly has been explained the last time there was a rash of Lush stories swiped without consent.

I can't humour you Nicola.

As my post said, "I honestly thought" .... and apparently, my honest thought was incorrect and completely ridiculous. I guess my defence is old-age senility or pain-related meds. At least there was a good conclusion for those who were upset with their stories being poached.

On a side note: The only poaching I enjoy is with eggs on an english muffin with some shaved ham or maybe a few shrimp, hollandaise sauce .... enjoyed with either some good strong coffee or a killer Caesar.

Cheers

Yum!

I hope you recover soon. If it's any consolation, I am in bed with the flu. Very sick, burning up. Probably best I'm offline today...

I am with clum on this one. I am sorry for all of you who have had stories stolen and I understand your frustration - you have every right in the world to be pissed. However I have learned (the hard way) to pick my battles and this is just not one of them.
First off, I am not in the habit of getting into fights I can't possibly win. Even if we bombard these sites and get them closed down, another will pop up like tissues in a Kleenex box as soon as we do. This is like our troublemakers on Lush - they disappear in one place only to pop up somewhere else under a new name. In addition, since some of these sites are in foreign countries, there isn't a whole lot that can be done to pressure them into compliance anyway.
Next, I have not been shy in telling you all that I write my stories for me first of all. My writing is therapeutic for me - it helps me express the dreams, fantasies and feelings that otherwise would drive me out of my flipping mind. So writing, whether accepted or not, whether stolen or not, helps me. The fact that others like my stories is icing on the cake. And the fact that someone would go to the trouble of stealing my story is in a twisted way a compliment!
Is it right - no. Should these people be punished for their crime - sure. But if everyone was called on every thing they did wrong in this world, the Internet would be a far different and far lonelier place!

I'm with you 10,000%. Especially your last sentence. Thank you Master Jonathan for writing that.

P.S.Nicola- sorry you're sick. Hope you feel better soon..
It appears not only has www.mystories4u.com been taken down but so has www.fantas.com. A quick check this evening shows it is no longer in existence.

To all the Moderators who got involved, a hearty thank you.

I was having a PM conversation with a friend about this and I thought I would share my feelings on the subject...

The way I see it, when I write a story and publish it in the public domain, then it's no longer mine - it becomes public property in some way - people will read it and do what they do. If there's an audio version, they can save that to listen to over and over.

I find writing cathartic, for me, it's more about getting the stuff out - once I've done that, it's served its useful purpose, it's easy to forget about it and while I like the feedback and so forth that I get here on Lush, in the grand scheme of things, if other people pinch it and read it elsewhere what does it matter? Okay, I may not get the personal credit I deserve, but at least they read what I wrote and hopefully enjoyed it?

The other thing is that, in the past, I would follow up on these websites, ask them to remove my work and sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't but no matter how often I would do this, more sites would pop up and do the same - it was like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic, kind of pointless and the results aren't really worthwhile enough to merit either my time or my emotional investment...

I guess this must be how musicians and bands feel when people download their music without paying? Or when people share stuff on FB without crediting the original poster or person who made/wrote it...

As for stopping writing and contributing? Well, I don't get paid for it, it's not like they're stealing from my purse. I just do it because I want to, it's a hobby. I'll keep writing here because it does me good and also because people seem to enjoy what I post - if they enjoy it somewhere else without my say so, well, that does suck a bit, but at least they're still reading it... The only person I'd be punishing by not writing would be myself.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

My feelings entirely. Yes I am pissed off about it, but since writing is a hobby, and as I mainly do it for my own pleasure, I am not prepared to waste any energy over it. Good luck to those who do. For those who are being paid for their work, however, it is an entirely different matter.

For you guys: https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_postst39208_Plagiarism-Advice-Stealing-and-Publishing-your-Work.aspx

Sorry I don't have time to do more. I used to, until it thoroughly depressed me as to how rife it is, and impossible to contain.

Yep...I'm sure I've said it before, since this topic has come up quite a number of times...my own attitude that I've adopted, being someone with quite a number of stories and poems out there on the net over the last few year is that I don't bother to do anything if someone steals something of mine and posts it on a free site...

If they're using something of mine to make money...ie: publishing it in a book or whatever...then I do something, and take whatever actions required...

Otherwise, you really can find yourself spending a lot of time on this stuff, along with the aggravation that goes along with it...and frankly, it's not worth it...there are better things you can be doing with your time as an author as far as promoting your work...or, God forbid, actually writing for that matter...

And trust me on this...you'll see this stuff just coming up more and more the longer you're a writer with stuff out there on the net...

You know you want it, you know you need it bad...get it now on Amazon.com...
Lush Erotica, an Anthology of Award Winning Sex Stories
Anytime you post a story on the internet you will run the risk of it being swiped. There is no technology available that can truly protect you from that.

I hate it it because I despise thieves. I prefer my stories to be on Lushstories (which I consider my home so to speak) and did not give my permission for those unsavory sites to post my stories. My stories are copyright protected, so I do contact them and let them know that my attorneys will take action against them.
Well well well, having seen this thread I thought, "I wonder if my work has been used elsewhere?" In my previous Lush incarnation, same name, I wrote some stories.
I just typed in Te11tale on Google, and apart from one site that asked me if they could use my stuff, there were several others too.
Try it for yourself and see what you find.

I take it as a compliment that my work is thought of as worth publishing elsewhere, I suppose if one was not happy having work reused like this, well, publish it
in hard copy I suppose, you know, proper books n the like.

As Mazza said, if it's online, it's vulnerable. Live with it.
im just glad the two before mention sites are now down. lush has great people working for them and they do a great job smile
my newest :)
This thread caught my interest, so I did try googling my stories. I found one, stolen from lush, immediately at sexstories-xxx.com . At least they had the manners to add a link back to the story as it appears on lush. There may be other stuff of mine on that site but it seems to have only primitive navigation facilities. It's likely that other lush authors' content appers there (presumably without permission).
I'll post a reminder here to be very careful when checking the sites that come up in a Google search when you're hunting for your work. Many of these sites are havens for malware-laden ads, or serve as malware delivery systems themselves.

Ad-block. No-script. Active Anti-malware software. If you don't have them all, don't go. And check the link in a link scanner first. Nicola linked to a good URL scanner here:
