Do they let you know if a story has been rejected? i submitted another story and it's still unverified after a week. i know that the site is all volunteer but i was just wondering if they let you know it was not good enough. Or if it was a different series vs. a continuation of the first do they frown on that?

Also i have a competition entry that i was waiting on due to the only one story on the front page at a time thing.

Am i missing something?

i apologize if this is the wrong place to ask.

Patience.

Some stories I submit get turned around in a day, others have taken almost two weeks. It depends on how many stories are in the queue ahead of yours, how many mods are verifying them, planetary alignments, the availability sacrificial virgin albino unicorns, and any number of other factors. Eventually, they'll let you know their decision. If it's rejected, they'll give you at least a reason why it was rejected, and usually some constructive feedback on how to improve the story so you can resubmit it and get it accepted. Good luck.

Don't believe everything that you read.

Don't mind waiting at all, just didn't know if it made sense to keep submitting new stories while waiting or if i should just wait without submitting anything new. Contest entry deadline is soon so mostly need to know if i should submit it even with something still hanging out in the queue...

I'm not a mod, so I don't know for sure, but I would probably say go ahead if it isn't a sequel to the first thing you submitted. It would be awkward, though, if your 'part 2' gets accepted before your 'part 1,' so with multi-part stories, I usually wait until one is published before submitting the next. But if the stories aren't related, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't submit them both simultaneously if they're ready.

They only allow one story per author per 24 hours so even if you have more than one in the queue, they will be spaced out over a day. And they did post that there is a fairly long queue right now and comp entries get priority for obvious reasons so you may have to just be patient.
Oh, and goldies go to the top of the queue so if you're going to be publishing stories regularly, it may be worth the $$.

If it's any consolation your story is very near the top of the queue, which is currently at 65 stories, FYI. Although (as mentioned) the occasional Gold or Platinum member may pop a story in above you, it shouldn't be much longer.
Story verification times, as pointed out elsewhere, vary wildly depending upon the number of submissions in queue and the number of individuals available to "clear" or verify the submission. Please keep in mind that all moderators/story verifiers are unpaid and are volunteering their own time and efforts toward the site.

You will be notified if your submission is rejected, and it is my understanding that the reasons for the rejection are generally given. Please take the time to incorporate those reasons when you edit your submission prior to re-submitting it. No moderator wants to make carefully considered notations regarding reasons for rejection and suggestions for correcting errors, only to see those suggestions wholesale ignored.

Also, as previously mentioned, choosing to support the site monetarily through the purchase of a Gold or Platinum membership not only helps the site itself (servers cost actual money to run and to maintain) but also offers the benefit of leapfrogging your piece to the a priority placement in the verification queue. If it has truly been >7 days since you submitted a piece and you have not yet heard anything back, I would suggest using the 'Contact Us' link to inquire after the status of your submission.

In my case, I have never had a piece go more than ~16 hours between submission and posting; then again, I made the choice to purchase a Gold membership (now upgraded to a Platinum membership) almost immediately after joining, not so much for the benefits--I believe that I was until recently wholesale unaware of the advantage of being a Gold member with a piece in queue--as to support the site. I would strongly encourage you to purchase a Gold membership if at all possible, especially if you plan on regularly submitting pieces for posting.

Hope this helps.
Want to spend some time wallowing in a Recommended Read? Pick one! Or two! Or seven!

My question wasn't a complaint about the length of time a response was taking, i just learned of the existence of this site less than a month ago and am trying to make sure that i am understanding how it all works.

It does look like upgrading my membership is a good idea in general so i am going to discuss that option with my partner.

Just trying to get a feel for how things typically work and such since prior to this i was just posting unedited erotica sporadically to the kinky social media site and my own blog.

This writing for a wider audience is totally new to me.

I didn't interpret your post as a complaint. You're new, and you're trying to understand how things work.

It's been mentioned several times, but just to reiterate, the over/under for story submissions is roughly 72 hours. That time can triple during holidays because people are busy making the most of the holidays. Things can also take longer during competitions because those entries take priority so that entrants can get the votes they need.

If a story is rejected, you will be notified along with reasons why. Subsequently, the rejection process also lengthens the amount of time it takes to get your story approved and published.

I hope this helps. Welcome to Lush, and best of luck in the competition!
