Thank you, that told him. There is nothing as exciting as a flash of ladies ankle.

I feel a bit responsible for this ladies smutty behaviour ( English spelling) because I encouraged her to be here so please accept my apologies.

A certain blonde person gave me a 4 once. She probably thinks I've forgotten. I haven't.

that means you probably didn't notice the 2 i gave you. whew, dodged a bullet there.

She is a most pleasurable breath of fresh air in Lush's fog of debauchery. I am willing to give you credit for asking her in, but that's the best I can do for your reputation.

Thank you for that, she is fun isn't she but I will try to keep her under control.
I have had low scores on stories sometimes, and I was told sometimes its bots, or people just being mean.
My advice is to make people leave a comment when voting.

And then you just get fewer scores because only people who want to comment will score. Which is fine by me, since comments are what I live for, but it won't help people obsessed with score. It will probably deter some of the "score trolls" though who live to vote people down.

I don't mind getting fewer scores that way. It takes very little time to say, beautifully done, ect.

I'm not obsessed with scoring. I like everything that I write. I don't believe I've written anything mediocre. (That's my worst nightmare.)

I am kind of the same but have never really had a lot of problems with low scores. And most of the "regulars" who read my stuff leave good comments so I haven't bothered to turn on the "comment with score" option.

As I said, comments are what I live for, not scores (save in a comp where they do matter).

And I would not say I like everything I write. It's just that the ones I don't like, don't see the light of day. More like the eternal darkness of permanent deletion.

I've been wondering this for a while: if I was to give someone a lower score than I wanted to (say the mouse slipped and I clicked on the wrong one), could that score be reversed, so that I can score again, properly this time? It has never happened, but I'm always paranoid that it might.

yep. there's actually a button to delete score given, i think? or there used to be? lol if not, you can always contact a mod or use the contact us button and one of the nice mods will do it for you.smile

I feel like I am missing something about scoring. I see more and more stories requiring a comment to give a score. And it seems anything but a '5' is considered awful. If we all get 5's all the time, doesn't that take away some of the meaning behind a '5'.

I know there is a place where you can see author's scoring averages, but do people look at that? Does that really impact who reads my stories? Wouldn't a catchy title or poppin' tags mean more?

I wanna be in a bookstore someday. Will a 5 on Lush vs a 4 really have any impact on that? For me, the fun would be gone here if I wrote worrying about scores, comments, etc. I wanna see an authentic score. Not suppress a '3' because I flipped that flag and whoever feared being named by leaving a comment too. If I have trolls out there, I'd rather see them comin'.

Many people are using "5" as a "Like" or "upvote" and not really scoring. I have suggested before that replacing scoring with a "vote up" or "Like" system would probably better fit how the system mostly gets used.

I think you are right. Many other platforms do that. I think Reddit works that way.
I'm mostly into poetry and seldom read or score stories. I appreciate my many friends and members who vote and score on my work. I'm not here to satisfy my ego. I write from the heart and try to impact my readers… If I fail to transmit my inner feelings then I've failed in my writing.

All too often,,, some poems totally lose me with feeble attempts to rhyme or the verses too long, or with words that need to be looked up on Webster…...
Once I feel the Author is trying to impress rather than deliver, I'm done reading…..

Writing isn't a contest for me...

My work is mixed with imagination,
memories of the past,
dreams for the future,
moments of happiness, sadness,
and yes,
sexual needs, pure lust and desire,
with words common to all.
Some poems rhyme some don't…
Nice when I can,
but I'm the flow.
They're really about me….

For me, a poem often fails in the title first.

Love Carolyn.
I turned it on hoping to get more people to leave some sort of comment whatever they decide to score a story. Since then, I've gotten about the same down votes, but very few comments past the regular friend's kindness. I think I average maybe eight per across 100+ stories and only two I would consider constructively critical out of that. Never had twenty votes on anything. I guess I need to serve up something besides oatmeal for breakfast.
Or just have a nice glass of beer and take a nap.

Agree, Carolyn. It would fail to be fun for me if I felt I was competing with everyone else all the time and worried about votes, comments. I have (for whatever reason) developed a fun group of readers who comment and I love interacting with them, but it isn't a numbers game for me. I need Lush to be my enjoyable retreat. Everyone knows I don't even promote my stories. I prefer to see where chips organically fall because I truly want to become a great writer. I need critique for that. I totally agree about poems that try too hard too ... I am attracted to pieces that pull me in with authentic emotions, etc.

I understand your reason for turning on that flag. I have talked to authors about their voting, Kistin. Some truly don't consider a '4' a down vote. They give a '5' if they feel story is something they could never write themselves ... perfect maybe. Keep in mind the same people voting on your story are probably NOT the same people voting on the story below you. So comparing your 4 to their 5 is like comparing an apple to an orange. You know? Unless you know say Kimmi gave you a '5' but I gave JoeSmo a '4' below. Even then it is just one opinion. Doesn't mean one story better literary quality than other necessarily.

I think 3-4 is probably really where most stories should be if we are really using this as a rating system. The RR and EP stuff should be the only 5s plus maybe a few that get overlooked for those rewards. A rating system where 5 is the norm isn't a rating system, IMHO. 1 should be the crappy stuff that barely slips past the mods. 2 should be the so-so stuff. 3-4 the usual. And 5 the real quality stuff.

But, as I said, it tends to be used as a Like system. Even the comments tend to be cheerleading. Only a few people here actually give detailed comments or even critiques. Rump tends to be good about that and his comments, both public and private, have been helpful over the years.

Agree! It's great Lush is a supportive, encouraging group, but I could use more critiques as I wanna write more out in the world. So, I am submitting to outside groups for critiques now, not publishing on other erotic literary sites, just submitting to non-erotic contests, etc.

I 100% agree with you. Nobody is more surprised than me, as a non writer, that I even get a 5. I'm not saying I'm not pleased, of course I am. It's truly humbling to get nice scores and comments. I really want to learn how to write. What I don't like however is someone leaving a score of 1 (poor) without giving any advice as to how I might improve. All I want to do is learn and get better. Telling me I'm no good without offering advice to help me better myself is not exactly constructive. Regards, Verity

IMO, the five-point system is overkill here at Lush because the mods usually keep one and two level stories from being verified. I've always felt a three part scale with top to bottom being labeled something along the lines of (Very good -- Good -- Needs work) being both kinder and more helpful.

The bottom line, again IMO, is to get more helpful comments, reply to all the comments your story receives and give helpful comments whenever possible. Good luck.
