Many members shy away from entering, and shouldn't. Perhaps offer a few free upgrades or memberships, on a luck of the draw, to anyone who enters a comp. Excluding the winners, of course.

Good idea.

This latest competition was a particularly challenging one, and we've had far fewer entries than usual.

I think the last competition we had close to 100 entries (from memory), so we're getting good numbers entering usually.

It's a consideration for future competitions.

I am on iPad, can I still register a story? I have noticed, that I can't do as much on iPad, as I can with PC.

I've written every story and poem I've posted in the last 4 years on my iPad. Use pages as a word processor amd you would have no issues.

I also verify stories. Write in the forum... blog on the internet everywhere, all on my tablet. I don't think I've opened my laptop for months.

Every story is read and considered despite the vote... (There CAN BE exceptions re vote...)

It doesn't happen often but it happens.

NEW AUTHORS POWER THE PRESS!!!

(Tell you true... We DON'T need another story from the ones we know can already do it. We NEED stories from New Talent...)

JUST FUCKING WRITE!

I really hope this can apply to the current competition, as I still haven’t managed to scrounge up ten votes for my story!

That's a shame. This was a very good entry.

It seems this thread is all over the place. Wasn't it about new categories for competitions? It seems that the current list of Genre is the main guide for the competition. One of my favorite themes not found here is mystery. Whereas it is admittedly harder to write than straight erotica, it would be a great challenge to try.

This is a great idea, and if I may tweak it a bit: Noir. Like Raymond Chandler/Dashiell Hammett type stories. Not detective stories necessarily, or even mystery. Just a cynical, dark, sexy, hard-boiled style.

When she moved in to the apartment across the hall I'd watch her through the peephole in the door, a few fingers of whiskey in a glass in my hand, garish neon from the street below blinking through my shades like morse code, some secret message that needed deciphering. What I didn't know, until it was too late, was that she was watching me too.

I've never entered a competition, but I would be on that genre like Godzilla on Tokyo.

Lool. "Like Godzilla on Tokyo."

That made my day. I'm gonna steal that.

I need to say a big thank you to everyone who read, scored and commented on my story after I posted here yesterday. I couldn’t quite believe what I was seeing when I logged in this morning and checked my timeline! Again, thank you to everyone.

And now, back to the thread topic!

I agree about the mystery/detective genre. I’d love to try my hand at an erotic mystery.

Well Gil is onto a good idea....but why random prizes? I think perhaps if a particular writer has "peppered the top 10" a few times, perhaps missed out on the BIG KAHUNA like every time....such a writer might get a case of 1982 Krug from Lush as a "thank you" gift ? Okay maybe not a case....maybe half a case? Okay a single bottle? Okay how about a digital image of the fucking Champagne? Okay whatever.....how about a bottle of pepper?

Product Placement: well since "product placement" and "guerrilla advertising" are so in vogue now, how about a competition theme where we writers are required to include certain products in the story in a creative way?

how about a mash up? has to fulfill 3 different catagories.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

My last story was a picture challenge. It was both fun and challenging, I bet there would be many different and interesting interpretations in a wide variety of catagories.

Bondage, restraints...

I picked up her cell phone and grinned at her as I answered the call.

"Poppet is tied up at the moment. Leave a message, beep."

Such deviance, Gil! You'd have to tie me down to get me to write about that stuff. Yeah....you'd have to tie me down...tight...inescapably tight...and those ropes would have to be placed just right....

I think I could stumble my way through that type of tie, (double constrictor knots for you) if it would motivate you to write a bondage story.

A 'Shakespeare reimagined' Comp? A 'Bible stories reimagined' comp?

Yeah, and a copyright infringement lawsuit comp while we're at it 🤣

Edit: I am only half joking. It's a decent idea. But although the original works are probably out of copyright, it only takes one compilation company or a musical to have reobtained the rights and we might be in hot water.
