Are you a Writer?

A budding one but not quite where I want to be yet so I won't quite call myself that until I feel comfortable with it. To each their own I say. Call yourself whatever feels right for you. I do consider myself a writer of stories on Lush.
I most definitely am not a writer.
I don't think that people who enjoy different hobbies are those things. True, it is part of who we are and defines us in that section of what are our interests, but to call ourselves that we are because of different hobbies, cannot agree to (I was generalising this). Just because I find relaxing outlet in painting, cannot call myself a painter, just because I enjoy science and physics, cannot call myself scientists. There is a difference between amateur writers who keep their scribblings for themself or majority of us who post our scribblings on this site and writers who actually deserve to be called that. Rare few gems on this site are brilliant, but most of us are not. So, if writing style is not exceptional and different or your writing piece is not enlightening, you are not a writer. Just because I think I am most beautiful woman on the planet, doesn't make me so, right? At least this is how I see it. That will not stop us to call ourselves writers, painters, photographers and so on, and it shouldn't stop us, but reality is a wee different.
I consider myself a writer, and in my opinion, I became one the moment I published a story online. Before that, I was just some guy with a hobby. I think the title comes from sharing the work with others, not just creating it.

Yes, it's still just a hobby, and I've got no idea if I'm actually any good, but my stuff's out there, baby! I'm a motherfuckin' writer!

For me, there's a difference between a writer and an author, the latter being paid for a start. It's the crossover from amateur to professional.

Give yourself the pet on the back and all the encouragement you can.
My latest story is a racy little piece about what happens when someone cute from work invites you over to watch Netflix and Chill.
I think of myself as a poet and storyteller. To be a writer would require greater understanding of the technical intricacies of the written word than I possess. I can look at a sentence and know whether it is correct, I can sometimes compose one as well, but I can rarely tell you why in a way that a person with an English degree would consider valid.

There are fabulous cooks who can create a meal fit for a king, but without the education to go with it, they are not Chefs.

That is how I would describe myself...

Hi there Ladies and Gents

A question!

At what point in your writing experience and publishing- here or out of here, did you consider yourself a writer, if ever? I have written a couple pieces now and I wouldn't consider myself or call myself a writer. I am just wondering about everyone else's experience.
Thanks in advance.

No. Despite the potato, I don't consider myself a writer.
I think Milik described it best. I am a storyteller. I do not possess the grasp of grammar, punctuation, and all the other technical intricacies to be a writer. I enjoy telling My stories and some people enjoy reading them, but as for being a "writer", no I am not that good.
The definition of a writer is, a person who has written a particular text.
The definition of a golfer is, someone who plays the game of golf.

Although I love playing golf, I suck at it.
Although I love writing, some say I suck at it and some say I’m good at it.

Do I consider myself a writer? Well, based solely upon the definition, I would say yes.
Am I a good writer? I would have to say no smile
I write to get things out of my head...
I'd love to be a writer, but when I sit down to write everything goes blank, even though I have lots going on in my brain...
NOPE
FINISH THE FIGHT!
When I first put my pen down to write and it wasn't for a school assignment. Lol

See...I would think that by your own definition you are a writer...editors are the people who know where commas go and stuff like that...I think people confuse writers and editors sometimes...

I can tell you with a fair degree of certainty that many popular authors out there don't necessarily have all that knowledge someone with an English degree might possess...they just happen to have good editors...

Lush Erotica, an Anthology of Award Winning Sex Stories
Going by the Oxford English dictionary definition, I'd say that anyone who has ever written anything is a writer. Me personally? I write in my own personal style, not really with much regard as to whether it will go down well, or if it is traditional or "correct", so I guess I am. I don't feel like one though.

noun
1 a person who has written something or who writes in a particular way:
the writer of the letter
While I'm obviously not a professional, I'd like to think that I'm a writer just the same. It is something I enjoy immensely and often times receive some nice feedback and encouragement from the good folks of Lush about things I've posted. Thanks!

So your saying I'm not a unicorn?

Frickin' reality...It sucks!

EDIT: For the record. I write, but I am not a writer. I just scribble nonsense and type out ideas. It's just a bit of fun for me.

hahah sorry for that reality check
However, if someone wants to to become unicorn, needs to match up with unicorn standards. Until than they are 'just' Rhinos.

I am a dabbler. On a good day I could call myself an amateur writer. I have published, but only as a co-author of a technical paper.
An old favorite story of mine: The Chaise Lounge
It was years before i came across this site. I wrote many fictional stories before, some sexual, and I guess it was roughly around 2004 I considered myself a writer.

Anybody who writes stuff is a writer. It's just that we all have varying degrees of skill, talent, focus and drive. Some of us are famous. Some of us aren't. I like writing and I do it (snigger) regularly. So I'm a writer.

That is exactly how I feel. Well said.
? A True Story ?
